‘Vote these buggers out of power’ - Prof Jonathan Jansen

  • South Africa is quite literally “falling apart” at the helm of the governing ANC, filled to the brim with ministers unfit for office, arrogantly believing the rural vote will save them in perpetuity. In a broad-ranging, no-holds-barred interview about the state of the nation, internationally-distinguished academic and author Prof Jonathan Jansen tells BizNews’ Michael Appel that South Africa “needs to vote these buggers [ANC] out of power” come national elections in 2024. From the crime, unemployment and electricity supply crisis to fumbling education policies, Jansen says he’s advising talented young South Africans to leave the country in the short term. He wants our best and brightest to then return once we’re out of the “lacuna, this vacuum, this interregnum, if you wish”, to help rebuild the country. Jansen delivers incisive analysis that cowers to nothing and no one.

    At the end of last year my kids went to the final assembly at their kids school and the Head was congratulating students who had received places in local plumbing, electrical, construction etc companies. And those who did music were congratulated for getting places on the tourist boats. The kids going into academia were not the only ones being made a fuss of. That’s the way it should be.

If the youth have a good grounding the later school years will deliver the goods almost by their own maturity and applying their early learning years . I am not suggesting that teachers in high school aren’t important . They really are important! But their job is made easier if their is a solid back ground on which to build .

  • @aimhigh3701
    @aimhigh3701 Před 2 lety +43

    I like Jansen but he's still in denial... He's still clinging to South African exceptionalism.
    Here's an interesting perspective that's worth chewing on:
    Nelson Mandela was overwhelmingly influenced by western democratic ideals. His vision of a prosperous, united, non racist south Africa was basically a British/American vision fueled by Western philosophy and law and Christian values. That Western influence has faded and now we are left with the awful cocktail of African politics mixed with socialism. The result is a performative society which acts out the part of a functioning democracy but which at its core is authoritarian, racist, tribal, and pathologically tolerant of incompetence and corruption.
    Until we become humble and begin to emulate the successful countries of the world, we will never be like them. That's what South African exceptionalism is: the assumption that we will magically emerge into our rainbow nation utopia through communist/socialist policies and a primitive tribe-like structure of political leadership where the people at the top can do whatever they want without consequence and the people at the bottom not only make due with nothing, but applaud their leaders, believing in the myths the leaders propagate through their lies and sophistry.
    Japan became a superpower by emulating the principles and policies of America and democratic nations. South Africa on the other hand prefers to rub shoulders with Russia and introduce nonsense policies that take away freedom rather than create it. We are arrogant, ideological and resting far too heavily on our laurels. The days of reckoning are on the horizon. They will not be easy.

It makes me sad. The children are our future and we need to give them the correct education and emotional intelligence

    Professor Jansen also needs to pay attention to overcrowding in township and rural schools. Overcrowding hampers effective teaching and learning. There's so many other issues like incompetent and less qualified school managers and sgbs among others.

      STOP GRANTS FOR BREEDING CHILDREN LIKE RABBITS AND STOP MEN IN TOWNSHIPS AND RURAL AEAS HAVING MULTIPLE WIVES AND CONCUBINES AND CREATING CHILDREN BY THE DOZENS AND THERE WILL BE NO OVERCROWING. most POOR PEOPLE CREATE THE OWN CIRCLE OF POVERTY BY HAVING TOO MANY CHILDREN THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO FEED CLOTHE AND EDUCATE. people WHO DO not HAVE THESE PROBLEMS AND ARE CONSIDERED WEALTHY ARE ACTUALLY NOT REALLY BORN WEALTHY AT ALL BUT THEY COME FROM SMALLER WELL PLANNED FAMILIES AND THEY ALSO NOW plan their the size of their families. Birth Control is FREE so is vasectomies and hysterotomies. but there are no long rows waiting at birth control, no because they are all at the grant offices.
