- Formel 1 Rennen auf dem Nürburgring, gefilmt von Amateurfilmer und Radprofi Dieter Kemper. Das war wohl auch der Grund, warum er schließlich ein VIP Ticket bekam und einen kurzen Blick ins Fahrlager werfen durfte. Ausserdem zu sehen, Szenen vom anschließenden Tourenwagen Rennen mit dem Eindruck eines Jedermann Rennens.
Formula 1 on the Nurburg Ring in Germany´s Ardennes in 1964 shot by the amateur cameraman Dieter Kemper, back then a bike professional. After the victory ceremonie we see some shots of the touring car race appearing to be a race for everybody.

Two stroke DKWs taking off from the start sounded like enraged bumblebees! So good to see the old cars and the people enjyoing themselves.
Having driven a DKW Junior I think racing one of thise around the Ring would've been an experience.

Loved seeing that Saab 96 Sport!
Ich war zu der Zeit öfters an Rennstrecken, auch bei Bergrennen. Was leider im Film nicht rüberkommt: Der Geruch! Damals fuhren fast alle heißen Autos mit Rhizinusöl. Das gab einen unbeschreiblichen scharfen, würzigen Geruch. Allein der Geruch von verbranntem Rhizinusöl ließ meinen Puls enorm steigen.

all in one. Back then racing was just a hobby. And you raced for the trophy and the money. Now its big business. And AMG was just getting started too.

The two stroke Saab and the Mini were a surprise, though it looked like they had to give way after couple of turns. Saab being perhaps the biggest surprise because it is quite heavy by that era standards and had a tiny two stroke engine. In a Saab like that one sits like a corkscrew; the steering wheel, the seat, and the pedals "arent where they should be", but in rallies it was fast because the handbrake actuated rear wheels assisting sideways driving, "drifting". And, as the later Saab 99 had handbrake to the front wheels, many a farmer here in Finland(the usual Saab owners) had little mishaps when winter came and they used the handbrake from the old memory of Saab 96...
At least it appears to be a Saab 96 Sport, so untuned it would be around 55 bhp!
like that young lady with Peugeot Logo, amazing straight line speeds on F1 cars in 1964, ... also amazing how a car came noware from pit lane started the 2nd Tourenwagens race .........
An die F1 Autos kann ich mich noch erinnern, meine Rennbahn hatte auch solche, war Anfang der 70er Jahre! 👍

Has that image been digitally enhanced because if original that's amazing camera / film quality for that era, guessing it was German.

Lustigerweise entsteigt die Frau in Rot einem Ford Taunus P3 und zeigt ihr Peugeot TShirt. Links daneben parkt der optisch veraltete Konkurrent aus Rüsselheim, ein Opel Rekord A in schicker Zweifarbenlackierung. Die Formelwagen erinnern an die Carrera-Bahn der Kindheit. 03:21 Die Zweitakt DKWs Stoßstange an Stoßstange in rasender Fahrt. Drollig und nichts für schwache Nerven.
Nachdem der Kameramann ein Radprofi war und damals Peugeot eines(-r) der führenden Radteams/Ausrüster/Sponsoren war nehme ich mal an dass seine Begleitung deswegen das Shirt trug, das hat mit Autos nichts zu tun... ;-)
