Honestly, this was always how I saw it. Like in DR2, it was just a simulation and when they're "killed" they'll just wake up in the real world, so nobody is in any real danger.
If that was the case then danganronpa 1 is literally the only mainline DR game where the characters actually die

The ending of v3 was very interesting to say the least since they found out that everyone was “fictional” making it seem like a simulation. So technically this ending could be cannon

To be fair to Tsumugi, for all we know she was just a victim of the games programming as well and might not even be the mastermind, but just another fan, and later was like, "Sorry, that's just the character they made me play."

It was a game, by all means, they would’ve assumed that Tsumugi was merely a character, there’s no reason not to befriend her.

I should point out first, *HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD FOR V3 AND SDR2.* Though anyone watching this has probably played through V3 already, some of you might be playing the games out of sequence like I first did.
Y'know, all through playing V3 I was wondering if they were gonna pull the 'everything is a simulation' twist again. It'd make perfect sense, especially with V3's ending going full meta right at the end. And with the transfer student chapter, which heavily implied the Necronomicon was actually functional. Like, how would that have worked if they'd used it? That's not even mentioning the fact that we're shown right away that there's machines and memory manipulation involved. If I hadn't played the series in reverse order and already knew about the Hope Restoration Project from SDR2, I'd have thought it was the exact same thing right up until the final trial.
Screw it, this is my headcanon now. V3 was a simulation based on a videogame in canon, it's plausible that none of it was actually real.
Also, little off topic, but isn't Kaede supposed to be an inch taller than Shuichi? The last panel makes Shuichi look humongous in comparison.

Shuichi is taller than Kaede because in the English version of DRV3, They did a mistake. Shuichi was supposed to be taller than Kaede but they accidently put 5'7" in Shuichi's report card and 5'8" in Kaede's report card
I figured the necronomicon would work by taking a look a like and implanting them with the characters memories and abilities.
It awesome to see the people who are dead which they are not just like danganronpa 2

The fact that this is how Danganronpa actually goes- I’m always going to see the ending just like this. Sadly we weren’t able to see everything on the outside world- but I believe that’s up to us^^ Danganronpa is an amazing series and the games are just so addictive and make you embedded into these characters . That’s why comics and dubs like this help me cope on what happened to them during the killing game. Amazing dub, really touched me!💕💕

Angie,Tenko,Korekiyo,Miu,Gonta,Kokichi,and Kaito are watching the survivors(Himiko,Maki,Kiibo, and Saihara battling against Shirogane(the mastermind) about the outside world
Angie is legit red and Kokichi looks like the sweetest thing ever like the rest of them... xD

and it’s literally kaede encouraging saihara from outside to destroy this game while having tears in her eyes 🥲
also last few pages are slightly translated wrong, so here’s a rough slightly interpreted translation haha

It makes me in a at happy seeing all my favourite characters living happily. Korekiyo, Angie, Tenko, Kirumi, And so many more just watching and not actually being dead. It feels...reliving yet heartbreaking? But in a good way.

I sooo recommend it. It's a SaiOuma fanfic, so those who don't ship Kokichi and Shuichi probably won't enjoy it...
But basically it's similar to this video. It takes place after everyone wakes up from v3, however nobody remembers their pre-game selves and lives, so they all have to learn about their pasts as time goes on. Shuichi and Kokichi find out they're roommates and were dating pre-Danganronpa... Since they now have their new, post-game personalities, they both slowly and gradually fall in love with eachother post-game again...
And the whole v3 gang would meet up every week to watch the Danganronpa episodes together.
Everyone reunites and heals from their emotional wounds together.
It's actually really sweet..

Here’s my theory for this comic. Danganronpa did happen, it became a popular thing to watch like the game says. But it became an advanced game of vr in a way. So now a days you sign up and are put in a virtual word with some randoms. It also kinda ties into that the whole word is a game created by team dangonronpa. This is just an odd backstory for the comic not cannon at least as far as I know since their making a new game.

Also makes sense for K1b0 since in the prologue I don’t think he’s a robot at that point
I saw somewhere a similar theory that it was all like a computer game (a similar situation as in the second part of Danganronpa). And I sometimes reflect on this topic, this theory and in truth could become canon
It’s honestly kinda sad that our loving Kaede Akamatsu is actually a not-so-great person out of game, but she is still an awesome character and the way you put it made this very cool and interesting :D

It makes sense in the game they showed the character auditioning for the roles so it must mean the other characters are still alive plus Junko faked her execution many times so it would be possible for the other characters to be alive when it was punishment time they just swapped a dummy
