i think initially he genuinely didn't know anything and didn't believe he'd be coming back, but the further it got into post vol. 2 era (like at the panel with finn and grace) he started being WAYYY more sus to me. i think something has changed in the way he approaches it and discusses it and it really seems like he know something now.

this is a long shot but the kas theory is Kas still being dead but being a vampire. Eddie got bit by vampires and when they say 'we hope he comes back alive,' he is telling the truth. Like he won't come back to life. He will be dead, but as a vampire (its a very long shot, but there r so many things that foreshadowing it in season 4 and the newest thing is that Season 5 Episode 1 will be called the crawl. ALSO in the song Master Of Pupperts by Metallica (That should be a clue) there is a few lines. One that sounds like something Henry/One/ Venca would do to Eddie would be 'Master of Puppets, I'm pulling your strings. Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams. Blinded by me you can't see a thing.'
Another lyric in that song is 'Come crawling faster. Obey your master.'
And also why would they pick this song if Eddie (the character) only had at least two weeks to learn it (yes two weeks because Master of Puppets was realised on March 3th 1986 and the things that happen to the gang and Eddie's guitar solo happen on March 27th 1986. They could have picked any other song, but they chose this one. Indicating Eddie had to listen and play the song almost everyday for hours on end.
THAT IS A LONG SHOT. But the lyrics to the song. They could have picked any song by Metallica and chose that one. For what reason? Is he coming back to be enslaved by Venca?
(A lot of that is just bullcrap so don't take my work for it)
If this doesn't happen I hope he does get to come back as a memory to Dustin. Or my least favorite thing would be Vecna taking over Dustin's mind and showing him how it was 'His fault,' that Eddie died. And Eddie (not real Eddie but Venca's Eddie) blames everything on him.
Either way I love Joseph Quinn. He did an amazing job as Eddie Munson and deserves all the love and support in the world.

And see Eddie as Venca's right hand man in season 5 or being in Dustin memories is something I will ramble on about . I think if we got that we can get some true closure about what happen with Eddie's body after they left him in the upside down

I really recommend checking out the official artwork commissioned by the Duffer Brothers of Eddie Munson. The poster stars Eddie playing guitar, and all around there are icons and letters. You can read "Live at the Upside Down, at the HideOut on Tuesdays" with an (A) from anarchy symbol before "live" (Alive in the Upside Down). I truly think he is there as a vampire seconding to D&D lore and that his guitar was indeed made for another dimension ;)
