Just a thank you your way, am still new to finches (not birds in general) and enjoy learning more. Have a few Zebras thinking of breeding, getting some Shaft tails and nursing back some Gouldians to health, we just got recently. Never thought I would enjoy Canaries and Finches, but my grandpa 's aviary (40 plus years back, lol) seems to have left an impact after all. Plus more time on my hand and enjoy watching them❤ Also LOVE Mikey! Our Cockatiel is a sweety as well🐦

These birds eat almost everything. Give them plenty of greens, apples and pears, soft foods, the appropriate seed mix - of course take into consideration the breeding season, moult, rest, etc.
They're sheer pleasure to - let's say, they belong in every bird lovers' aviaries. Cheers :)

I used to have Societies, but they breed so fast and even chicks as young as 4 months would breed. Anywhere and in anything. Had crested one's too. Soon there were too many to even sell. No wonder they sell for 5 bucks each and most finches and canaries are around $100 and above. They have a great history though, they don't exist in nature. The Chinese people bred them from closely related finch species, and they're also known as Bengalese finches. They've been used as foster parents for centuries. Cool birds, but they can overwhelm if you let them. I agree that they should only foster under the right conditions at this point. But some people say, we wouldn't have captive Gouldians and other species in captivity if it weren't for them. My granddad taught me that. He knew so much about birds.

Very cool, Yes they do breed like rabbits. Because they are so popular I do try to breed the rarer types of societies. People do seem to be interested in the rare colors still.
