  • (1 Sep 2016) JACKIE CHAN, SHOW LUO AND NANA OU-YANG ON COMMENCING FILMING OF 'BLEEDING STEEL'
Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan was joined by Taiwanese actors Nana Ou-Yang and Show Luo at a press conference in Taipei on Thursday (SEPT. 1) to discuss the filming of "Bleeding Steel" - a new science-fiction movie shooting in Sydney, Taipei and Beijing.
Speaking at the press conference, Jackie Chan said the role has forced him out of his comfort zone:
"Of course I am not very confident with science-fiction. I don't know much about it. Therefore I only make Jackie Chan-style movies," he admitted. "This is a sci-fi movie, and (at the same time) it's not a sci-fi movie. So this gives me more confidence. And the character is also a challenge. In the past few years, people may have noticed that I tried hard to change my image. I hope people know that I am not only an action movie actor. I am an actor," he clarified.
"Bleeding Steel" is directed by Zhang Lijia (also known as Leo Zhang), with Chan taking the lead role as a special forces agent who has to protect a woman from a criminal gang.
Acting alongside Chan are Nana Ou-Yang and Show Luo.
Nana Ou-Yang joked that her fitness levels had already been pushed during the first weeks of filming:
"I remember my first week, when I was training in Australia. The director said I just had to take a few classes, and would see what condition I was in. But when I arrived to the site, people told me to stretch, to flip around, to roll around, and I had to learn to use a gun. So that was a big challenge," she smiled.
Over the last few months, the film's producers have been addressing reports that Show Luo was only brought in as a last minute replacement for actor Eddie Peng. Local media reported that Peng was dropped because of friction between himself and Chan - rumors all parties have denied.
Chan said he has nothing to praise for Peng.
"He is a very diligent actor. And he is highly respectful to work ethics. I am not just saying that. Two days ago, I was talking with Lee Yan-kong about Eddie Peng. I said that Peng was suitable for this role, for that role, and maybe for such other role. I am really looking forward to working with him," said Chan.
Scenes for "Bleeding Steel" have already been shot in Sydney Australia and Thursday's press conference marked the start of filming in Taiwan.
The movie is due for release in 2017.
