@@SweetLouPhotography I know Lou! Just bustin' on you! Nice review. I use their waist level finder - really awesome accessory. It's on every camera I use (I mainly shoot film but also use it on my digital M)
Man, a minute in and I'm already interested in this tiny flash and I hate add-on flashes! Stop being so good at videos and making me wanna buy stuff. 😁
This size flash is exactly what I've been looking for! I really would love to buy this but the currently generation is a little lacking for me. I hope that with future iterations they add a better locking mechanism so the flash doesn't fall off so easily and, if possible, adding some sort of TTL technology to make this suuuuuuper simple to use. I plan on using this with my Sony A7c MKii with a little 35mm pancake lens as this set up is my walk around travel set up. Reflx Lab, if you're seeing this, then please at least add that locking mechanism and I will for sure purchase this even if it makes the lash more expensive! Lastly, great video, man! I had no idea about this flash and I'm very happy you made a video about it and put this sized flash on my radar! I'm very excited to see a future update if there is one!
I wonder if a little piece of tape on the back of the flash near where it mounts to the body will help "fix" the flash falling off (a small piece of gaffer's tape maybe). It might also be a good thing it doesn't lock down as I have seen flashes get stuck in hotshoes or break off, etc). If you need the flash a bit higher to clear lenses you can buy flash extension rods which raise the flash higher up (although this does add to the bulk of the overall setup). I mean something like this for $50 is almost a no-brainer for the times when you just need a bit more light in your scene and is great for those camras that don't include built-in flashes (like some of the higher-end ML cameras). And for the $50 you could probably pick up a few of these for the same price as even a cheap manual (full-sized) hotshoe flash)
Seems like it's working pretty well for you. It's almost like the body should have included a built-in flash like seems to be less common than it used to be. 😕 You can adjust flash exposure level via ISO and aperture but not so much with shutter speed as the electronic flash burst is sort of fixed at a very short duration (shutter speeds slower than x-sync will allow increasing amounts of ambient light allowing the more distant background to show more and the image in general less flashy.
Looks like they took the Olympus FL-LM1/2 (A tiny flash for the Olympus E-M5 as it lacks an built in flash) and made it universal! Although they should copy Olympus' hotshoe locking system from the FL-LM1/2 to secure it in place.
Nice review! (and great photos!). Good news, reflx labs is now also selling a 2x aaa battery flash not as tiny but not far off. Its a bit taller so less problem with longer lenses (less), can select 1/2 power AND it can be screwed down to the hot shoe. I've got both and very happy with them!
@@SweetLouPhotography Ah great stuff! I've found the between flash times not great but I've not been using decent batteries. So glad sombody is making reviews on these, I'd love to see one something like a small godox Jr with tilting head. Most flash units are way too big!
@@SweetLouPhotography Sorry, I meant the long exposure flash mode for capturing streaks or motion blur. On a tripod it’ll just make the background have the same exposure as the thing exposed by flash. If you half press the shutter to let the lens focus and then press it completely it’ll take a picture instantly. People saying it has shutter drag just pressed all the way down from the start.
Nope, this flash only has been wired for triggering. You cannot use TTL. TTL is proprietary in 99% of the case and require a special flash to be made for every system.
Fuji EF X8 is BETTER - full TTL control and a better position as its upright, less red eye, solid fit on camera. Can also be used on manual or with compenstation. Soft clear tissue can soften the output. Also cheap - so shop around folks.....
Very cool. I love harsh lighting. I may get this but I love my Vivitar Autothyristors . They rock myphotos. I use with all my film cameras. I strictly shooot film So.
Bummer it falls off all the time (I'm afraid I would have to duct tape it or something) .. Sounds like the perfect flash for when you're out with friends (that don't mind you up in their grill) .. Shppping now :) .. (Pentax K-3 iii - plethora of lenses).
Yeah!! A bunch of people recommended I either use gaf or painter's tape to thicken up the area where you'd slide it into your shoe. Provided you don't want to swap between cameras super rapidly, that is a great solution. Thanks for watching!!
yep that's one of the caveats I mentioned-- but as long as you know it before you buy, it's a great value and does what it needs to do. Thanks for watching!
I was looking for a review like this, for a cheap-shit-lose-it-and-forget-it flash which to my googling doesn’t exist. Thanks for fixing a minor gear issue I had. I’m sticking around because not only did you make the video others aren’t, it also had a tasty grunge theme. My guy, where is this CZcams sub-genre?
This is very cool..but for me I just got the vintage style GODOX Lux Junior and its been great obviously the Godox is not this size..I use it on my Fuji X100VI and it pairs awesome with that, not only on the looks but performance as well..very powerful for a small compact flash can change the flash power from 1/64 to 1/1....and also tried it on my Sony A7RV..and it works well with that too as an EDC flash you can use while your out and about....I definitely recommend the Godox Lux Junior if you have a Fuji X100 body..
@@SweetLouPhotography only thing that hopefully they will improve on in a "Junior Mark II" is that they put a USB C type rechargeable battery that takes up the same space as the two AAA batteries..lol without compromising the small form factor of the body..lol but then again AAA batteries are very common and get them basically anywhere..lol so maybe thats why GODOX went with those AAA instead..lol
My XT4 actually doesn't have one, so I couldn't make that comparison unfortunately. But just going off memory with my a6400 (I sold it) they're pretty similar in terms of strength and that head on disposable camera look. Hope that helps-- I could put it head to head with my x100F's flash if you're interested in the results!!
yes, the photos are labeled throughout the video whether or not they are on digital or film, and I mentioned that it worked on most of the cameras I tested it out on except for that weird Pikachu film camera. It worked on my Pentax K1000 and Mamiya 645 without issue.
Is it compatible with Canon DSLRs? I find it’s a nightmare trying to work out if a flash will work or fry my camera. I can’t even find the maximum voltage my camera’s hotshoe can take written anywhere.
if it can work on older film cameras than it wont fry your DSLR most older film cameras cannot handle the power of modern flashes and will fry immediately. so yeah itll work
@@thatfellarosto I thought it was the other way around - that old flashes will fry newer cameras. (Unfortunately, I've not seen a cutoff date or data supplied or information about when a standard might have been formalised, but it stands to reason since old flashes send 100s of volts through the hotshoe as they are activated by completing the circuit to the bulb directly, and modern cameras probably just have a transistor instead of a contactor or similar that would likely be able to cope with more voltage).
None of my digital cameras in recent years (Fuji XT4, Canon 5 and 6D, Sony a7S) have had built in flashes. That in tandem with it's size and the ability to easily flip between my digital and film cameras makes this very appealing to me
@@SweetLouPhotography I'm not saying it's useless, it certainly has some uses to it, but equipping it with locking ring and 2 button power control would take it far
