Thanks for this helpful video. I made a hash of taping my bars last year. I thought I'd treat myself to Brooks tape, but that was a mistake. Maybe because it was my first time, but I don't think the tape was stretchy enough. It started becoming loose while I was on a trip in France. So I was nervous about doing it again. This time I watched your video first. And I found it a lot easier to stretch and wrap the tape. I'm really pleased with the way it's turned out.
Nice clear vid, Jana, and your smile lit up my day! About to finish rebuilding my eighties Mercian and have the Humpert trekking bars ready to go on, but dithering between tape and sponge tubing (was a big Grab-Ons fan for yonks). T-bars allow so many variations, both in kit bolted on and with up/down angles too, so it all needs thought. Do have a great tour, btw!
Thanks for all the nice comments: I'm really pleased that the video helped! We did indeed go on our trip. You can read all about our adventures here: www.honkforfreedom.com. Plenty of photos and advice about everything from what we ate to what kit we took with us. Sorry for the lack of any other videos here on CZcams: we got carried away with training! Good luck with any expeditions you have planned!
I know this is an old video but maybe you'll see this. What brand are your grips? Having trouble finding non-foam grips that will fit my butterfly bars
Hi there. We used Cinelli 'Gel Cork' bar tape 'natural'. $14 from Chain Reaction Cycles. More pricey than other tapes but I liked the print! I don't think this brand offers extra tape...it felt like the same amount that is usually provided. I didn't wrap under the grips so actually it was only a portion of the handlebars that was wrapped. I had a few inches leftover too.
IMO that is wrapped in the wrong direction. Start in center of front bar and work your way to the grips, ending there. That way the overlap will not be 'against the grain' of your hand pressure while riding. I like cinelli or profile cork tape, but for my butterfly bars I may spring the $$$ for Brooks leather tape
Yes, taping in the other direction seems preferable though it's hard to guess this kind of thing. It's not impossible that one direction might be better on some part of the bar, and the other direction better on some other part .... as with drops, where you typically change direction at the brakes.
@@Hertog_von_Berkshire It does matter which way the tape goes....ive never riden butterfly bars but am guessing that you would pull on the bar....and if it's taped in this direction you'd be pulling the tape down....ie not not keeping it tight and it would come loose after time 😥
The handlebars are facing the correct way for all the nit pickers. They are designed to be used and are used this way, with the end of the bars closest to the rider.
Hey Jana thanks for the video. I've never wrapped handlebars before (always had mountain bike handlebars with grips) so this was very helpful.
Just bought a handlebar like yours. Thanks for the great video on wrapping the bars!
Thank you Jana. It is a brilliant, very detailed (all details needed, together with holding wheel in place). You saved my time.

thank you and I am thinking of putting ButterFly bar on my Surly LHT
Thanks for the demonstration. I also have a Surly LHT with trekking bars.
Enjoy your ride in America if you haven't done it yet.

Ummm, that link takes me to a US far-right anti-vax / anti-face mask website.
Thanks for the great video

You madam, are a godsend.

Awesome my sister, thank you and be 🙏
Did you ever go on your trip? I was looking for more videos on your builds and trip...
Thanks!
Love the accent!
That is very neutral "received pronunciation" (RP). Effectively no accent.

I like your video. Love your accent. Are you planning any more videos??
Hi may I know your Butterfly bar is bought from where and what brand please... Thanks
freeeedooooooom :D respect!
Did you use 1 or 2 rolls of tape to wrap these handlebars?
Cute!
Thank you for shared ... ^_^
How long are the handlebar tapes used in the video for each side? Are two 200cm/79inch for each side enough?
Шток вилки надо подрезать вставить якорь, у затянуть рулевую колонку иначе потшипники разлетятся
Hi,
Can you tell me what is your stem lenght please?
Hi Federico, it's 130mm
rozczochrały Ci się włosy hahah żartuję i pozdrawiam z Polski
Like 👍🚴❤️

I'd say there is no "wrong" way... whatever works for you!
I have used mine with the gap foreword and backward, but also right side up and down. It’s nice to change stuff up once in a while.
Nice video, good tips, but the visual similarity to Rebecca Watson is a bit too close for comfort.
Many bar tapes would break if you tried to strech them that much.
Jana you super...girl
why is the website you're promoting mainly based on conspiracy theorists' stuff?
Nice hair, sorry 😜
OMG! someone's made a mess with your hair at your back...grrrr
