Babymetal is no joke, they are celebrating 10 years now ! That's not a gimmick, their is real musicianship/song writing going on.
Max Portnoy, son of Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater is a fan of Babymetal and Hideki (Babymetal's most regular drummer), among his top 10. He has been spotted wearing Babymetal t-shirt, etc.
This is what Mike had to say about this song: "BLOWN away by what you've [Max] played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN! "Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL"
Mike has said Max's band should open for Babymetal.

The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (Vocal and Dance), Moametal (Scream and Dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (Scream and Dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017.[1] Since her departure, the band has performed with one or more backup dancers at live performances. In 2019, the band introduced three backup dancers called Avengers who performed in rotation at each live show to form a trio with Moametal and Su-metal.

When I first heard this, I stopped counting timing changes at 70. Imagine them performing this live. The necessary musicianship by itself is amazing. But then add the girls dancing to this. Imagine the complexities presented to a choreographer.... the vocals with all the timing changes, while dancing. They performed this song live only once. At Tokyo Dome in 2016. Su was once asked if she had fun performing night 1 at Tokyo Dome. She replied, "after we performed Tales of Destinies without mistakes, yes." It was the second to last song of the night and she was thinking about it from the time the concert started.

I always feel the whole stage setup for the Tokyo Dome concert was made specially for this song.
From the intro (there was a short animation before the song) the lightworks, the outro (the piano directly connect to song THE ONE), and the outro after The One to end the whole concert, whole element in and around the stage was used for those moments. Whilst other songs only use parts of it.

Perfect playing, perfect SU singing, perfect YUI & MOA screaming, perfect dancing to the sound. It was astounding.
However, there was 小神さま(kogami sama) at this time, but he is gone now...I fear that it will never be played again.
The final piano is the connection to the next song, "The One". This is the song that was on that triangular cone.

  • @athlonen

As guitarists, you should be able to pick this up. Listen to the first leading riff/lick that was played in Tales of the Destinies. Then after you finish this, go back to your reaction for The One. You should notice that that lick/riff is exactly the same, except slowed down. That's what everyone is meaning, especially outside of the piano at the end that would transition into The One. This shows how both of those songs were originally one song that got split into two, based on the concept of the song.

Their was no backing (especially financially) from the company, all they did was allow him to do it. He was actually unsure about doing it at all, asking people if he should even try. Babymetal has costumes and lore so i would say they are definitely a gimmick. A gimmick isn't necessarily a bad thing though, is it? It's just utilizing something or some way of drawing attention to the product. People just assume that means the gimmick is there to distract everyone from a poor quality product but its not necessarily the case. People need to judge things for what they are instead of making assumptions. I mean, if the music is good, then whether it has a gimmick or not is irrelevant. If the music is bad, again it being a gimmick is irrelevant. If it's crappy music, it doesn't magically become good just by removing the gimmick.

Awesome in depth reaction. At first I didn't really like the song being that I felt it was all over the place and wasn't used to that sound. In time it became one of my favs.
Oh, if you didn't notice. The ending piano they are playing part of the chorus of "The One", the song that Alan really likes. Aloha guys!!!

They identified some guests on the third album, but don’t discuss the studio process except as relates to the 3 members. They actually did this live (once). Agree the music is incredible, but they are still just some teen ladies in a singing dance troupe who accepted the challenge of dancing to heavy music, a “heavy metal dance unit”. The fact that they could color all those time changes with dancing and singing in time, live version at ages 17,17,18, (right after performing with Halford), they’re impressive too

    • @CHRISCONTEPSS

Yah .. .basically all I can search out is writing credits. They don't seem to have listed studio personnel publicly. I know some of the studio drumming is programmed. :( It's still great, but as a drummer it makes me a little sad. However they sure as hell make it up with their live band personnel! 🦊🤘🤘🦊
