I picked up the G80 after Rick’s initial review and love it. I was able to nail down what my club averages were on the range and use the GPS on the course. Now we are in lock down - I’m able to use the target practice and virtual course apps on it in my backyard. Not nearly as nice as Rick’s setup, but it’s kept my practice up.

Same here . Converted a spare bedroom into a practice room . The G80 is great and I feel I have my irons and wedges dialed in. The virtual round feature is fun . the target practice is great for short irons . The limitation is the roll factor as you need a bit for driver etc but wedges should stop without any roll . Happy with G80 and purchased on the back of a few CZcams tests including Ricks .

I have a G80 and it’s truly a game changer on the course. The “plays like” function has helped me hone in my distances. It takes into account elevation and tells you that the x yard shot you’re about to take really plays like y yards. I club up or down on certain shots at familiar courses more than I thought I would have. The launch monitor and virtual games are pretty sweet too, especially during quarantine!

Thanks for doing this comparison Rick. I just recently got a G80 to cover both a makeshift simulator setup in my backyard and a GPS for on the course based on your initial review of it. The virtual rounds are fun, and the launch monitor has been super helpful for figuring out my average distances for my clubs. My only gripe so far has been that there isn’t a way to store those averages on the G80. Beyond that, it’s been a great add to the bag, and this comparison helped me feel much better about the purchase.

I saw this video from the 'FB GROUP', I personally use the Garmin Approach G80 during warm up before a round for the ball park numbers on tempo tracker, ball speed and smash factor. However, GC Quad is a very nice tool for working on developing your skills, shaving your spin rates, gaining data on on distances not only for your normal swings but also for when you fade or draw the ball which ends up in total yardage differentiation. I rent range time to use a GC Quad and trackman. Great video Rick! Keep'em up!

Hey Rick, shout out from sunny San Diego. I bought the Garmin based on this review. It's really helped me dial in my yardages on the range. I also found the tempo feature very useful as well when I practice as I tend to get a bit quick and it helped me slow down and essentially become more efficient with my golf swing. On the course, I found the GPS really useful for sorting out carry distances over hazards and dialling in approach shots into greens especially if you play golf courses with a lot of blind shots like I do. It's taken a lot of the guess work out of the equation when Im out on the course. Thanks for the great insights as always!!!

I have just purchased a SkyCaddy SC300 and apart from the major things wrong with it (like over 120mph swing speeds being difficult to measure - Which is OK for me as I am shite) it has been one of the very very best things I have bought in golf. I use the g80 hitting balls into a basic home golf net, then I hit plastic wiffle type balls down the garden to check direction. I alternate between the two to give me a good all round idea on how I'm hitting it (I know I'm v lucky to have access to a back garden to allow that in the current circumstances). I think the g80 is sometimes a little bit off on distances, (Maybe 5 %), but it probably doesn't allow for the humidity / temperature etc on the day effecting how far the ball flies. Overall, a great piece of kit, I bought it off my club pro, he tested it on course versus his own trackman, and it did well. Really great as a GPS and can a bit of interest to your driving range session, it's also a great way of figuring out your carry distances and gapping your clubs, great for game management overall. Playing any course tee to green at home using the g80 and into the net is also a great distraction at the minute!

On average I toe one shot out of every 20.
Looking at where you put the gcquad, and where my toed drives usually go, its pretty safe to say if I toed it I would destroy the gcquad.
So if I was to go down the range, buy a hundred rangeballs (£5), I would need around 5 launch monitors (£100,000 at £20,000 a pop)
So each session down the range with the gcquad(s) would cost £100,005 total in balls and launch monitors.

You should do a video on tempo. See a lot of new golfers struggle with this, you should hit 10 balls trying to completely smash the skin of the ball fast back swing and follow through and then 10 with a nice steady tempo see the difference in distance and accuracy

I have 3 different garman watches, Have the vivo active 3 as the latest. For me it's not very good at being a golf watch. I have the S10 in the S60 golf watches. I have used the s10 and I think it is a great watch for golf, I have not used S60 very much but it is still a great product. I do construction and I've worn both of the watches on the job and they hold up very well. Garman just makes good products. I have had good customer support whenever of had a problem. Thumbs up up on recommendation

Hi Rick. Another fine job here. My friends and I are trying to build our own home flight monitor but on a budget (GC Quad is way outsideof our budget lol) . Used new we don't care. Figured older software too since it won't need a monster PC to run it. How would you build a poor man's system? Figure between 1k and 5k dollars.
Hope you get to see this or if anyone else in the comments has ideas all would be much appreciated.

Been using the G80 recently - great bit of kit.
But one thing I've found is that the data starts getting questionable when I hit higher lofted wedges.
The last time I hit a few 60° wedge shots I was often getting distances around the 140yrd mark, with smash factors well over 1.5.
Being a bit of a hacker, 140yrds is what I typically hit an 8i, maybe a 9i on a great day - there's no way I could hit my 60° that far.
Other than the numbers sometimes getting weird with higher lofts I've had no problems though.
Great bit of kit and nice review 👍
