Fantastic DIY video. It's also good to see a little bit of the "dark side" relative to the immense joys of yachting.
Well, into every life a little poop must fall, eh ;-) Like you said, immense joys outweigh the miniscule struggles and I'd do this all the time if that's what it took to continue the enjoyment side. I am very grateful that I still have the ability to do that work!
OK, anxiously waiting for the installation, and I'm also interested to see where the "Orange" filter will be going. It's been a lot of fun watching you and Anchor Girl. Thanks for the hours of entertainment.
The worst part of this job was how my back felt the next day :-( Tight, cramped quarters, but at least the worst of it is over. We are both very glad to see that part of the job done and out of the way!
Keeping my sense of humour while elbow deep in poop is what I do best. After 25 years in the General Contracting business, I've handled my share of other people's crap (yes, both kinds), so working on our own was not so bad at all. Besides, it had to be done, and as you mentioned, I could only imagine what the marina would charge for this type of job. THAT would have worse to handle ;-)

I had to replace one of mine and I thought mine was bad, but not this bad. Any maintenance under the deck until you you go up to 46+ walk-in engine room is better but not always acceptable. Yo, Ho, a boating life for me!! Always work!

While you're at it, add an air aerator (sweet tank for example) to eliminate smell. Really works and worth it! :)
Agreed. I'm going to put in a second vent, just for the pump out that will bypass the charcoal filter and have a back-flow preventer type setup so that the tank can breath when pumping out, but not let stink smells out otherwise. I think that idea should be patent worthy ;-) I will include that in my reinstall video in the spring, so stay tuned.

Great series. I just did something similar with the hotwater system on my Riviera 47 as the old Hot water tank is not made anymore. I should have used a camera to document as I am sure the whole engine bay was installed after the hot water tank.

rottnest45 Right on. As believe I mention in this video, we had a chance to visit the plant in Florida to see where these Sea Ray's are built and it's apparent that for sake of production, everything is built from the ground up, with not 100% regard for later repairs.
Happy to have you along for the ride. Be sure that I'll be posting more and more - and more - as time goes on. I have recently acquired a new, high end video camera and have been busy capturing all sorts of videos to share!

Nice work, and you even kept your sense of humor while doing!! haha. This is a tough job no doubt about it. Luckily it could be removed without any real "invasive" work. I've encountered tanks that can be near impossible to remove without cutting and patching of the structure. Also, the "flexible" exhaust tubes (although it looks easy) are usually a real bitch to get off. Anyhow, you did a great job and you're saving yourself a boat load of money by doing yourself. (pardon the pun) Thanks! JM

Came for the Palm Coast, Florida Sea Ray Plant with a monstrous 28 (US) gallon capacity. I'm figuring I can get at least a 40 gallon tank in there, hopefully more. Should extend our days between pump outs by three or four days.

Loving your videos! I know you installed the external sensors but did you get a chance to see if there was a reason why the internal ones failed (less the obvious response) did the magnets get jammed or something to that effect.
I couldn't tell you precisely why they failed, but my guess was simple age. Nothing mechanical lasts forever. That's why they invented Amazon 😂
I thought the line people would have taken more pride. Looks like a Friday job. Worse thing is the work inspector didn't look and/or care either.
Your a general contractor, you would never let this kind of work go.
I hear ya on the contracting business.Was there myself for years. Yes, the marina would charge you a small fortune to do this, so it's great you tackled it yourself. I would also do this myself. (because I could never afford to have everything done at the marina! Lol) So, do you know about what size tank you'll go to? It looks a bit tight, but there's some room there. I'm sure any extra capacity you can gain, would be a real benefit with the extended time you'll be spending on the boat. JM

Just found out about imploding, or oil canning. If they are properly vented, it won't happen. I was checking out pump out procedures when I came upon that. Hope this gels so it won't happen to your new tank.
What size was installed? What size are you going to?

What was the foil tape for on the side of the poo tank that had wires attached?

Did you have a “tank saver” anti collapse valve on the original?
No, the factory install never had that. Would have worked wonders if it did. When we visited the #SeaRay manufacturing plant in Palm Coast, Florida (czcams.com/video/-yUhjl5UXWM/video.html), I mentioned the problem we had with this holding tank to the shop foreman and suggested that future builds should come with that. And a bigger holding tank :-0

What ever happened to part 2?
F Troy , not sure what part of the world you are located, but it's been a non stop, brutally cold winter up here, with cold temps continuing to today :-( Not the type of conditions to be working in. The plan was always to do the replacement before our spring launch, so I'm hoping to have that project, launch - and the associated videos - in the coming weeks :-)

Oh well, spillage and gaggage are all part of adult life! If anyone has had kids, they VERY likely have changed a poopy diaper or a hundred! my husband used to pull his tshirt over his nose when he did that! and pets get sick (barf, poop and other unidentifiable masses,, er .. messes) so if we love them, we clean them and go on enjoying them, boats, too!!
what a horrible design from Brunswick that would require such a re/re just for a holding tank, pitiful design, but well done on the execution!
