This predates even Shogun Total War. Creative Assembly is quoted to be inspired by this game. It's come full circle at this point.
The cutscenes in the game were actually pretty good for it's age, same with the voice acting. I was never able to beat the last 2 levels, so this gave me that closure. Thanks!
I got past the second to last one but always got my ass beat on the-last one I'm madd my Playstation disk keeps freezing so I cnt play it nomore 😔 lol tried downloading it but there's no 64 bit version of it

The Windows version likely can be run in compatibility mode or in a VM. The PSX version gets run in an emulator and there's plenty. .
@@HelmutKohlrabi there's a 32 bit version and a 64 bit for the computer download this is with most computer games this is common sense lol some games work on 32 bit version others only on 64 bit my computer runs 32 bit and the only downloadable for this game is 64 bit
@@beazyo6baby the game's from 1995, there's no 64 bit version. You can try running it in compatibility mode on 64 bit windows or use some virtual machine with an older 32 bit OS or wine on Linux. Even if GOG or some other abdondon ware site lists it as x64 compatible it's still a 32 bit era game and unless someone rewrites and recompiles the source this fact won't change.
A good trick I used for this mission was utilizing the Celestial wizard's wall of tornados. I placed him just ahead of my army and to the left, and had the tornado wall run right across the front of my army. This let my cannons and arrow units fire at will at the Skaven and their units had to go around the wall, where my best melee troops were guarding the flanks.
If you have the flame wizard, you can use his flaming skull spell against stacked groups of enemies, it doesn't kill a lot of them but it does make them retreat for a while.
Aknor is one of the most useful wizards (also that he works for free). I used his hunting spear to take out the Skaven shamens and if possible kill the big beasts before they get too close.
I found this mission you're so heavily outnumbered that you can't just hack and slash your way to victory. You really have to outsmart your foe in this one.
This was the exact tactic I used on this mission back in the day!
This needs a remaster. Or a remake with today's graphics.

I actually found the last two levels quite easy, as there is no need to watch the economy or save troops for future levels. Expendableee :P

I comer camped on this map back in the day. Used the celestial wizard to make that wall of tornadoes and mowed them down with the crossbows and eleven archers.
I never played this game but it sheds a tear on my eyes seeing how Bernhard worked with darius flugheim, galed ,willem fletcher and a lot of guys before Dark Omen ... now i understand bettwr how he gets along with them so easy haha.

I've had 2 copies of this game on ps1. Both freeze on the losfing screen during the dwarven campaign I think. I've never got to finish the game 🤬🤬

These graphics are horrible even for 1995 standards. Warhammer: Dark Omen was much better.
DO came out in 1998, buddy. 1995 was year of Warcraft2, which wasnt even 3d. In 1995 it was unusual to have voice acting.
@@OkurkaBinLadin Yeah the graphics are not that bad, the sprites need more frames, but otherwise for 95 it looks better than most games of the time. As you say to have all the cut scenes and voice speech must have taken up loads of memory.
I couldn't run dark omen back then :( But I played this game. I was not very good at it though. It was a difficult game for a young dude. No guide on the internet you know ;)
@@OkurkaBinLadin Warcraft 2 looks much, much better than this and still holds up even today. And Warcraft 2 also had excellent voice acting. Just like it's predecessor in 1994.
Shadow of the Horned Rat looks horrible in battles. 2d cutscenes, portraits, art - they are all good or at least decent, but battles... Horrible 3d landscape and objects, which make PS1 games look like Crysis. 2d sprites of units look like they have like 4-6 frames of animation. Sprites are pretty ugly too. Without banners and big ass minimap you can't tell some troops from another. And the cherry on the top of the cake is UI, which occupies more than a fucking half of your screen at any given time. Traditional solution for old games with high requirements and/or poor optimization. That's early 3d graphics for you.
