40% of the food produced in the United States is thrown away in our dumpsters, and then the landfill. That is outrageously sad. Food prices have gone up 30%, that is sad as well. The government is pricing the even the middle class from buying good nutritious food for our families. And the ones who are below that on food stamps don't have even the basics. So thank you for filling the blessing box every chance you get. It's much appreciated.
What a lot of people don't know is that food is often thrown away not because it's bad but because they need to stabilize the prices in other words make the most money they can let me explain if there's less product that means there's more demand and when there's more demand the price goes up if the market gets flooded with too much product then the price goes down and the big corporations won't make a good profit so to sum it all up big corporations get filthy rich when there's a high demand for products and for this reason a lot of stuff which is still usable is thrown away to keep the product low and prices High
@Michael Mulvey they also throw away perfectly good food not because it's bad but because it's not perfectly round or not red enough or whatever color box is crushed or plastic is ripped. The list goes on and on. I get what you are saying too. But sometimes they just throw away to make room for the next truckload coming in.

I have a Sister in Christ who brings vegetables, breads, noodles and such from her Church’s pantry and Feeding America truck drive. She puts things in our complex’s 2 laundry rooms. If I wasn’t so disabled, I’d dumpster dive in my town! Years ago I dumpster dived for toys, clothes and gently used furniture!

Our town has little pantries… we have about 20 boxes around different locations to put and take items.. and one is refrigerated.
