I’ve never forgotten that when I was a kid and my mum brought the 7” single of this. The needle kept jumping every second and my mum had to return the record because it was faulty. She got a replacement and played it at home. My mum’s record player had bass and treble controls that made the beat pump. The 10:04 song sounded amazing and I kept getting kind of hypnotic vibe from that arpeggio bassline. This very song got me into synthesisers. 😎

Here is some info on the real night this was first played to the public. The City club was a 100 feet off Broadway in North Beach San Francisco. It was a big 2 story place once the Cabaret most gay crowd, and then mixed crowd opening as The City with a separate Cabaret downstairs. It was "John Travolta" disco days. Even the Gray Line bus tours pulled up giving tourists a taste of big city disco. Many of the employees were gay men that gave them a good time, hundreds came every night. The DJ booth was a 20 foot tall Jukebox. John Randazzo was the lead DeeJay at this time, and Patrick Cowley was a friend to all of us. One night Patrick came into the club with some remixes, as you know he did others. He brought them on reel to reel tapes and you needed a good and at the time expensive tape machine to play at 15 speed for best quality. He shocked John and Steve the light guy with these new mixes never played to the public before. You guessed, it was this REMIX of I Feel Love, a remix of a song by Quartz and another Donna song, hard pressed to remember now. Well John was like OMG we are going to premiere it????!!!!! We had no warning. Imagine if we had cell phones then, dozens of calls would go out immediately but all we had was a payphone near the lobby. Calls were made at 10 cents each, stop all you are doing we are going to play a remix of I Feel Love, get here now. Some other deejays in town scrambled down to a busy house and Randazzo let loose with it. Disco fans love it, and I think the tourists from the Gray Line bus didn't understand the music and reaction of the true disco hearts. It was fabulous. I still remember the night to this day over 40 years ago. Patrick was in the giant jukebox with John as the house came down with this remix. This was long before the music was finally printed on vinyl. True story.

As a 15 yr old teenager at the time it was the start of an amazing music anthology that was the very soul of my life. Let's begin with the original track by the dynamite duo of LaDonna Gaines aka Donna Summer joined by the groundbreaking Giorgio Moroder.. They set the bar so high in this 1975 original it has rarely been matched. Then Mr.Patrick Cowley (considered by many in the know as THE American Giorgio Moroder) was also, way ahead of his time. This version took people's minds to a place far , far away. His incomparable ,legendary keyboard artistry was and still is in a league of it's own. this tune is about love, relaxation, truth, beauty, energising your spirit .. hi-energy 'disco' was the origin of all our techno, house, trance music, the power lies within its repetitive hypnotic rhythms allowing the listener to go into a trance state .. people who don't understand or 'feel' Reggae or Acid House will often say that they find the tracks boring at best .. turn all the lights off, turn the bass and volume up as far as the neighbours will allow, relax and connect and then you will understand the therapeutic qualities .. I do recommend that .. much love to everyone 🙂

Personally, I always felt this mix is a mess that ruins the perfection of Moroder's creation--it just sounds like a bunch of random electronic noise dropped on top of the original recording that doesn't blend at all with the hypnotic Moroder arrangement or Donna's sensual vocals. It's like, yo, Cowley, can you just keep your hands off the synths for a second so I can actually enjoy the song?
