Glad to see you back. I already know the video dope before watching it
Thank you i appreciate you
What interface y'all rocking with for 2020!!! let me know drop a comment
focusrite 3rd gen. what are your thoughts on that?
Motu m2, lcd screen is pretty nice
MIXED BY MALACHI I’m rockin with the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 provided by my school Full Sail. I’ll upgrade to the UA after.
@@jahnyeh excellent
@@JjohnsonV1 sweet
I appreciate your honest take on these two units. I am trying to decide between the two and honestly, like you, I don't and can't afford to shell out for a bunch of uad plugins. I'll probably go with the rme. Thanks man
Bro that video look fly AF bro!!!! I love the colors
RME has not only high end components & pre-amps, but they have the best kept "drivers" in the industry for their products. Their R&D on their drivers is insane, and is as much of the whole package (and subsequent audio processing) as the hardware itself. 😊
I been considering both of these interfaces and your review was super helpful; thanks!
I went with the RME 802 because I wanted more I/O. I agree, I think the apollo is good but it is definitely hyped up. I started with Focusrite so I already had a bunch of waves plugins that I love and know how to use so no need for the UAD system. I love my RME interface.
I had the RME fireface many years ago loved the sound.
Great video! Made me open my eyes as apollo user and my next buy! Shout out from Sweden! 🤟🏻
Thanks so much for this review. You covered everything I’ve wanted to hear about. I’ve got one of the original RME Babyface interface and have been thinking about whether the get the newer model or switch to UA.
Glad it was helpful!
I got the first generation Apollo Twin in 2014 and then in 2020 got the Twin X, six years total of working with the Twin. Almost two months ago, a friend of mine told me about RME. After a bit of research, I ditched my Twin X and got the RME UCX II. I can tell you from experience that the RME UCX II is leaps and bounds better than the Apollo Twin.
1. The clocking is better.
2. The preamps are cleaner and better. I get 72 dB of clean preamp gain opposed to the 65 dB of gain that's colored from the Apollo Twin
3. Better converters which means better conversion. Converters on the Apollo Twin are sub-par.
4. The soundscape is clearer and wider. I hear things in my mixes that I didn't hear with the Apollo Twin.
5. More inputs and outputs. RME UXC II: 20-in/20-out. Apollo Twin X: 10-in/6-out.
6. You can't bypass the preamps on the Apollo Twin X when using an external mic preamp. The signal still passes through the Apollo Twin preamps, which still add a little bit of color to the sound/signal coming from the external preamp. I found this out about six months ago. This means I wasn't getting the full advantage of my Neve Shelford Channel. After switching to the UCX II, problem solved.
With plugins from Plugin Alliance and now some from UAD Spark (13 native plugins), the ones I was using anyway before I sold the Twin, I don't need the Twin anymore to run those plugins. Plus I can add a UAD Satellite to run more UAD Plugins if I wanted to.
The only thing the Twin X has over the RME UXC II is the ability to track with Unison Preamps, which really doesn't matter if you track with hardware gear. For the price point, I get more bang for my buck with the RME UCX II.
RME babyface line is top-notch, don't listen to what some ppl say. It's a serious professional device for specific applications. I own the original and it's just darn awesome
yeah i love it man
It has some sweet converters
Went with the RME after looking around for a couple of months and trying to figure out which one will best suit my needs. It's being delivered today so I am looking forward to seeing how it goes
I’m super happy CZcams suggested your channel !
Thanks for this video. It helped me to make up my mind about getting the Babyface Pro
Good choice!
You picked the right one ... had mine for a couple years now
Thanks for all your honest and valuable production content! I bought the RME Babyface based off a lot of your info. Thanks again and I’ll keep watching!
thank you
Just did the same. UAD stuff is so hyped, but 80% of it is marketing. Some Plugins are really good, but... I prefer Waves and Fabfilter. Powered Plugins are a thing of the past im my opinion. RME Babyface FS RULEZ!
I also went for the RME babyFace after trying Apollo and Presonus Quantum. It's amazing.
You are right. The babyface is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just bought a Babyface Pro. Good video. One question though. How can I hook my ISA One up to it?
I sold my Apogee Element 24 and upgraded to RME UCX. Hands down the best interface and I've been using Apollo 16 (Black face), Apollo Quad Twin, Prism Sound Orpheus before. Love the RME !
Does it sound same as baby face pro ?
@@j-perezmusic better cause they have steadyclock FS on it, the new babyface has also steadyclock fs
Great video man thanks for the information
Any time!
Great content! You re the men👍
Thank you
Welcome to the family
i just subbed bc you kept it real. great vid keep it up
Appreciate that
The amazing thing about rme is the driver support and they sound great.
Exactly
RME isn't the only one. Most Pro Audio manufacturers support its devices long term compared ones that design mostly Prosumer interfaces that updates its products every 3 years. MOTU, Lynx still makes drivers for its early 2000s products. Many of the older MOTU HD192 are still in use found in pro commerical facilities. My studio partner is still using his oringal Lynx Auroa 16 that came out in 2006. I have the MOTU 828ES. Rock solid drivers and great sounding converters. I don't use like a normal audio interface like most. I use it the same way like an Aurora or Apogee Symphony as an AD to DA converter with my outboard gear.
great video and thank for the outlook.
Always!
do you think a Apollo X quad with analog classic plugin bundle for $950.00 is a good deal? Or you rather Babyface pro and waves plugins? Also do you think uad plugins sound better then waves plugins? Thanks for your reply in advance
You are mad cool Brotha! I just discovered you so I will be checking out more of your videos.
Thanks for a great video man. Cheers.
Anytime
Thanks for the review. Do you the Babyface RME preamps sound better than the SSL2?
Yes, absolutely
Glad I found your channel man. I just got the RME Babyface Pro fs. Do you have a video or a good resource for optimizing it?
Coming up
Big Ups For The Real Talk!!!!!
Man way you at with the videos streets need you bra
coming up man sorry for the wait
The problem I have with the RME is the input/outputs layout, having tons of cables coming out all sides of an interface just wouldn't work for me. It's becoming more and more trendy to hate on UA but I think it's amazing at least for my workflow. I use my interface for a lot of voiceover/video work and my mic audio signal pretty much stays the same for my voiceover mic. Being able to apply a pre-amp and plugins at the driver level and have all those settings persist after reboot is an incredible time/productivity saver for me. If I want to record a quick video with OBS I don't have to do any weird routing since everything is already handled in Console.
A very informative video. Thank you!🙏
Glad it was helpful!
This is great! I switched from a UAD Apollo solo to this RME for the ease of connecting to almost any system via USB 2. Plus the MIDI connectors and the case that it comes with is really nice.
Very cool!
@@MIXBYMALACHI please tell me, do you also have a gap between the card rme case and the wheel that increases the sound, through which the board is visible, is it just me, or is it a defect?
@@user-uj6yu1jk2b that may be a defect
What cables do I need to connect the RME BabyFace Pro to my studio monitors?

Just came across your channel. Much love and support. Keep pushing!
Thank you, I will
Great video. You've helped me make a choice between the two. Subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for the time and information.
No problem fam
these plugins are dope thanks bro~!
Glad you like them!
@@MIXBYMALACHI I feel like you need both these interfaces because honestly you can’t beat this interface you got to just join
I'm rocking the Audient 44 interface
Has it got enough clean gain for an SM7B
I presume if you use UA plugins does that mean if you're somewhere with your laptop but not your UA interface, those plugins become unavailable unless you previously bounced the audio down with the plugins on? So they're basically in the hardware? (Whereas all your regular plugins are always in your laptop).
yeah no interface no plugins
Hey man thanks for the video! I question myself, if you can use third party plugins with the rme and dont find information anywhere. Do you know if tthis is possible? Like waves tune in total mix for live monitoring with the dsp. thanks man! Keep up the great work!
Not inside of rme
@@MIXBYMALACHI thanks man!
Realllike the video, filled with valuable information. One small thing that was a bit distracting, was the background music. It was a bit too loud while you were talking. Got yourself a new subscriber 🎵⚡️
I work as an assistant in audiological research. We use these in our lab so I picked it for myself as well.
Congratulations on the new interface!!!
Thank you!
@@MIXBYMALACHI you are welcome brother.
Great video, thanks!
The bird makes me feel calm lol. Good info, thank you. Following
Awesome! Thank you! man my bird is crazy lol
just bought the rme pro fs due to this video hopefully I enjoy it
trust me you will let me know
Great video- I’ve been rocking the babyface pro for several years now. My question is did you need to use a cloud lifter with the sm7b and the babyface? Or just the rme preamp was enough juice?
Use another preamp. Go with the ISA One
I agree with you about the unison in the UA. Without those it sounds dull. I also went with RME and it was the best decision ever. You can bypass the stock pres just by having the input gain on zero.
About to drop some australiabux on one of these guys for guitar recording. Has your opinion changed in 12 months my dude?
Hi, I have a Scar 2i2 paired with yamaha's hs8 with the hs8s sub, I'am a beatmaker so what do you think is the best for me the Rme Babyface Pro fs or the Apollo Twin?
Thanks for teaching us knowledge
No problem
What's good big dawg , have you tried the new Babyface pro FS
I have the Apollo Twin and its quality is great with the Aston Microphone spirit, so you think the Soundcard for the Babyface pro FS is better and I should upgrade? genuine question by the way.
look the apollo is dope but its what suits you i just know i like the sound from the rme but have you tried all the unison plugins first
thanks for the share brother, i am about to recieve the latest RME tomorrow. wooo
Enjoy it
dope review bro
Thanks for watching
New to the channel dude!! Love your style man!! I’m more of a metal and instrumental guitar person but I love having new experiences of hip hop and EDM/dance/pop... I want to get into recording and production and I’m from the uk where apple computers are expensive but to get the thunderbolt 3 for the Apollo interfaces i have to spend at least £1000 for a compatible computer and I’ve always had it told to me that I need UAD interfaces for low latency but I’ve been looking into the Audient or Atura interfaces and was just wondering your opinion on those?? Sorry if I have wrote this stupid (going through some med changes)
i love the audient interface great choice brother but if i had to choose between the ssl and that solid state is great check out my review on my channel
You should check out the new MOTU AVB stuff or the M2/M4. The converters are unmatched that rivals the completion at an affordable price point. You get excellent long term driver support and very low latency. MOTU stuff is known to last as some of the older MOTUs such as HD192 converters are still in use today in commercial studios. I owned an Audient ID14. It sounded great but the drivers were horrible on Windows and sent it back. I would stay away from Focusrite as well if driver stability and long term driver support matters as I've been through 3 different Focusrite interfaces. I have an Apogee Quartet, sounds just as good as my Motu. Both share the same ESS Sabre DAC chip.
Eman 08 thank you so much!!
Great video
I’m deciding which interface to buy but I sing more Rock / Pop
Glad to hear your thoughts on the bass.
I'm not a producer, but I use an interface to record deejay mixes. I'm currently using an Apogee Duet USB to record into the computer but am thinking of picking up a Babyface Pro. Thanks, again!
Good stuff!
I would probably stick with Apogee if I were you since the converters are much better or go MOTU if you are after that ESS Sabre sound. If drivers is your main priority then Motu or RME that makes the best drivers are the market.
Eman 08 How are their converters better ?
@@reekrodriqguez6552 Because both Motu and Apogee are using the latest conversion technology. Both companies uses the same ESS Sabre DAC chips in its latest products. RME converters are great but are long in the tooth compared to the rest of the competition that still selling you 10 year old tech. But their drivers are great. I just don't think the high mark up price tag really justify worth buying an RME though since Motu drivers are just as good. I've owned an Apogee Quartet that I directly compared against my MOTU 828ES and I could heat very little difference between the two, that's how sonically close they were that was very subtle. The Apogee was just a tad more brigher with a little more sparkle on the top end but overall both converters sounded great. I can hear more clarity in the mids and a nice punchier, tighter botten end between the two converters. Both have a nice 3D sound and space and very dynamic. The DACs are more quieter than other converters because the volume gain is digitally controlled internally from the ESS Sabre DAC chip, meaning no hiss noise from your studio monitor speakers.
Eman 08 Oh I see, Would you say the RME is better than the Audient ID14?
Sounds like a good alternative if you don't use the UAD plugins.
If you get the uad Satellite you can still use you UA plugins
Thank you !
No problem
Great talk. UAD's Apollo are fantastic but they are expensive and definitely not the "best" interface you can buy. To say that Apollo is the best is a bit like saying that Ableton is the best or that Logic or FL is the best DAW for making music. Everyone has their preferences and Apollo is not objectively better than say RME, Apogee or Audient's and Foucusrite's better alternatives. The same goes for their plugins. However, Apollo comes with a certain hype, and if that gets you motivated and makes you make more music, go for it. It doesn't always have to better technical to be a valid point for you to buy something "technical".
Their plugins are top notch.. you’re tripping hard
"i know what you are saying bro" 😃 bought RME BAbyface pro FS....money well spent❣
No one can answer this question: I have a perfect gain but when I record my output vocals are at -30db. How can I crank up the ending volume so when I record I can have my vocals at -10, etc? Is there a way to do this in Total Mix FX?
I was considering selling my babyface pro to get an apollo just to start using Luna, now I'm not so sure, I might just buy an apollo to use Luna but keep by babyface. I don't know. I see a lot of people selling their apollo on reverb but not many baby face pros on reverb though, so that's a sign, and i'm seeing baby face win these shoot outs on youtube when facing against UAD.
I just got the Apollo twin x duo
Which plugins for EQ would you recommends I’m only using this for podcasts
How do u like it after all This time?
Sold my apollo USB because it won’t be ready whenever I want it to record. Either the headphones don’t work or the mic inputs don’t work! I was really a hassle with apollo ! Hopefully RME will help
Great content bro
Appreciate it
Aye just wondering how do you feel about standalone converters ? I'm out here trying to figure out if I should "upgrade" my lucid 88192 for something compact like a twin x or Babyface or maybe the rme fs pro...Do you have a tidal ? Or a few wav files I could listen over of the rme or uad ?
You just gave me a new tutorial fam lol
@@MIXBYMALACHI @MIXED BY MALACHI mybad I suffer from gearslutz syndrome 😂 but fr the Babyface has a adat you could & should try a standalone because in my experience alot of corners are cut when their trying to fit a preamp,ad/da etc into a box that can fit in a palm but it is magic what they pull off... but alot of people are unaware you can scoop the top of the line gear from yesteryear for pennies, like my lucid was considered the best converter under 5grand in 09 and now goes for 600 used all-day but definitely not as simple, portable, or power efficient as a all-in-1 but atm for me as been unbeatable but before I write a nerdgasm novel I'ma stop 😂 but wanna say I appreciate the video and congrats on surviving uad alot of people I know personally out here with dust in their pockets messing with uad dropping low mileage used car type money on a interface and few plugins 😂
ThatBoy Zee 😂😂😂
respect!
i have the babyface pro fs and it shows up as fireface ufx when i go to select audio device. also when i use direct monitoring my voice sounds fine, but when i try to record in fl studio my voice sounds doubled. im not using direct monitoring while also monitoring in fl studio, im strictly monitoring in fl studio and it doesnt sound clean like when i only use direct monitoring via the babyface. im not monitoring in both totalmix and fl studio, only fl studio but it doesnt sound clean like when i monitor using only totalmix. any suggestions? sorry if its confusing
not sure you check you sound drivers pc or mac!
which one has the better preamp and converters?
that's hard lol
Did the same 2 years ago - you are right 100%
Last of all, the TotalMixFX mixer software "has no limitations". Not only can it accept everything I throw at it, but it HAS HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO OUTPUT PROCESSING built-in, a great needed feature for mastering the sound that goes out when broadcasting online
Uad lost its compatibility with the now gen M1 chips. There are 4 huge points to the babyface. 1; class compliance
2; buss powered usb
3; lightpipe that can run in spdif or adat
And 4; mostly… MOSTLY… the babyface has a professional grade clock…
High headroom 1 db step gain and attenuation, a gain stage for any type monitors-I mean, really this was what we needed ages ago. In the past you would have to drop $5,000 just for a Big Ben that can give you high frequency clocking and that unit took up two rack spaces. RME really gave us something we really need and will last for years… has no frills but delivers everything possible needed in a compact, portable package. Uad had some nice plugins but they don’t compare to the real hardware and at the end of the day, it’s still all digital. The babyface, however, is a perfect for a hardware platform like 500 series rack. It’s made for that concept… with the lightpipe and the high end ad/da converter (fs)
So the twin is all digital but the babyface isn’t? Dude that makes no sense whatsoever lol.. they’re the same as far as that goes
@@ridinglow6732 no not at all the same. The clock is way ahead of UAD in that ballpark. I basically had both. UAD focused on plug ins and a matching daw platform (Luna) and that’s cool having everything down to modeled analog summing… it’s cool, I agree.
I went the no frills route that offers really REALLY good hardware. No frills. RME can work in a class compliance mode so no need for drivers, I don’t loose much if I loose driver compatibility. Then at the end of the day, because of that femtosecond clock, I get such amazing transient response, such amazing density of low frequency content and still really good high frequency detail that I just don’t need much processing at all for the tracking side of things… or raw , unprocessed audio recorded with a FET. I whole different route… er even ethos if you will. My point of contingency with UAD plugins is; it’s actually pricey for digital and one could still do better with REAL analog outboard gear that’s in the affordable range… ART for example. It’s actually better to go the no frill nor gimmicks way and just rely on time tested, streamlined application.
I used to be all about that advanced all digital for recording but I started out on all analog in my youth. It was always more instantly gratifying. So I figured I should reconsider before I go down the rabbit holes.
Hey the reason why I were calling with my UAD Apollo duo is because of the auto tune real time being able to hear it in real time is there any other options out there for me
Aaayyyy thanks
I did a blind a/b and the babyface pro fs sounded better so I went with that.
hell yeah dope
iD22 right here. Kicks ass. Kicks even more ass paired with my Audient asp880.
I had the RME Fireface 800 for years and loved it. However, I was running external hardware for preamps like the UA 610 Solo and the Focusrite ISA One. That was way more expensive than buying the UA Unison preamps and they actually do sound the same if not better. Plus, the legacy plugins are pretty great already, much more similar to the hardware than Waves Plugins. I should note that its all the same chipset so the ADDA conversion is great on both of them.
How does the output audio quality (monitor/headphone jack) compare between the Apollo and the Babyface Pro?
decent
Im looking to get low latency, but now Im stuck between, Apollo Twin X Duo vs RME Babyface Pro FS! I got a USB 3.2 Type C Gen 2 on my motherboard. I seen you can plug in a Thunderbolt cable to USB Type C or even use a PCIe Thunderbolt cause thunderbolt has up to 40 GB of transfer data and its the lowest latency on the block. Still trying to decide!
RME
Excellent thanks
Whats the version that has more inputs? I love this interface but i have a lot of synths and need analog i/o...thanks
babyface has 2 xlr ins + 2 line/hi-z ins; apollo has 2 xlr/line ins + 1 hi-z in. so babyface has 1 extra in
I'm ditching my Duet 3 for Babyface Pro. The Apogee drivers are just getting so buggy as of late. This is my 3rd Apogee that keeps crashing.
Can i use the WA76 with this? I assume yes cause the RME can bypass lml but just making sure the wa external compressor can use it. I have a laptop by the way.
can i use my studio Yamaha speakers still..???
You will be good
I got this instead of the Apollo because I have a m1 Mac in the Apollo wasn't supporting it yet. I have never heard such clear vocals in my own studio. This also very reliable I've never had it disconnect or not connect. The impedance on the headphones is high enough to bypass a headphone amp pushing my Sennheiser HD 650s. I had never paid attention to rme but I'm impressed.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ve grown so accustomed to recording with the LA-2A on the Apollo, idk if I would want to switch lol. Plus it’s almost like using analog compressors.
to behonest i still have the rme but i do miss the uad sometimes but rme is dope
Bro I got a Shure sm7b and MacBook Pro setup was gonna get the Apollo but I’m thinking about Babyface Pro fs... Thanks for your insight 👆
You will love the RME. Save yourself(and $$$) as the apollo is a never ending expensive plugin dongle. If you think you will forever live in the box and plugged into a wall this is fine as the apollo is a really good interface but the rme is cleaner and will give you more room for expansion without being stuck on an apple-esque walled garden.
@@AnthonyMartinsRock I love the RME Babyface Pro I got but I recommend a condenser mic over a Shure!! Shure input is so low and a cloudlifter just makes it sound worse
