      I actually had fun doing the math to figure out the tool... But I was pretty sure nobody else would. If you watch the campaign video, the math that's shown in there is the actual derivation of the angles for any splay angle, and any number of sides... I'm biased, but I think the tool is a little snazzier :)

      Yeah I linked his video in the description, but he lost me with the math lol

    • @MattIannacci
      @MattIannacci Před 3 lety +1

      Matthias did put together a great spreadsheet, and I used that often. Even if you have a very accurate angle plate, transferring the measurements accurately to the saw is hard! I've screwed up my fair share of pieces before I came up with this jig. This device uses long edges and faces, instead of a vertical line (like you would use a T-bevel) to align things. As long as you take your time, it ends up being pretty easy!

    @williamellis8993 Před 3 lety +1

    That looks like it would be great to make staved pieces even if you don't want to turn them. I assume your saw table has to be level for this to work. Take care.
    Bill

    • @MattIannacci
      @MattIannacci Před 3 lety

      Yeah, your table saw does need to be level, and you need to make sure your miter slots / top are calibrated to your blade. When I made the first prototypes, I couldn’t get them to work (even though the math showed they should have!) because I had never taken this step with the saw! And yes, you can make any staves or splayed type piece - I even used an early prototype to set up cut crown molding !

  • @MJ-nb1qn
    @MJ-nb1qn Před 3 lety

    Curious, if your table saw top is not level, how does that effect the bubble level setup? I found it funny Carl said to glue up half of the segments then sand the 2 to fit! Now that’s accuracy! Especially if you have an odd number of segments! It’s a clever Monkey though!

    • @bennygermanyx

      Why would it even matter if the jig is level? It shouldn't make a difference or am I missing something?

    • @MJ-nb1qn
      @MJ-nb1qn Před 3 lety

      @@bennygermanyx - I’m still trying to figure it out! The level is correct with the world, but the table saw may not be. It must not be that critical, hence the sanding to fit. I as thinking if the level was important he might have used a “Wixley” type device. Do you have any ideas?

    • @MattIannacci
      @MattIannacci Před 3 lety

      @@MJ-nb1qn - I am the inventor. You do need to have a level tablesaw - but you should always keep your saw level and calibrated. If you set the jig up right, you don’t need to glue in halves and sand. I have done 7 and 11 sided pieces with it, and there is no gap if you take your time to sweat it up.

      The approximate price going into manufacture (assuming I keep producing them in small batches on my own, through a US small-shop manufacturer) would be in the range of about $235 - it is listed on the site. Batch-manufacturing through a campaign like this allows the price to be lower, as some of the fixed-costs are spread out. The pre-order is $190 (before shipping and taxes). Thanks for taking a look!
