Feeling Stuck with Your Art?

- Feeling blocked or stuck in your art practice can be very unnerving and unmooring, so much so we can teeter on the brink of quitting. What I’ve come to learn is that often, almost always in fact, a “stuck” period can indicate transition, transformation, evolution in your art and become a time of letting go and moving on to something new. I know this can feel unsetting because I’ve been through this many times, and in this video I talk about this experience and how you may want to think about it and embrace it.

In the past - and even now - I've found people to learn from (like you and WAM). A class or workshop, or even some CZcams videos will give me just the boost and flow of ideas that I need. Other times, there's a need to look within, or to look outside myself at the world around me. Right now I'm on the verge of an interstate move. I've packed up the studio and ALL the things, so the feeling of needing to make a painting is intense at times. Motherly-adult-brain reminds me that it'll be only a month or two! Definitely important to tune in to what's going on in your heart, head, and spirit.
Hi Mary! I am back after 3 weeks in Maine and a hiatus from my online life! Many thanks for sharing about your life here. By now you may be moving or have moved? I know about interstate moves, they are jumbling and exciting and require us to "go with the flow" just as painting does! I hope you get set up to paint soon and find new inspiration fueling your work. Cheers!
Truer words were never said. Thank you for sharing. I, still plugging away
Many thanks for your interest! Glad you are still plugging away... Cheers!
I do need breaks from painting from time to time. It took me a while to realize that was a pattern in my life. Nice to know others feel the same.
Hi Paula! I am back after 3 weeks in Maine and a hiatus from my online life! Many thanks for sharing about your process here. Great to know that's helpful for you to hear that others need breaks in their painting process. Cheers!
Thank you for inspiring words, as always, Marianne.
You are so welcome! Many thanks for your continued interest... Cheers!
Thank you, Marianne! I loved the message and the challenge of deciding whether walking away is on the table or not. I think that is a great perspective. (As an aside, I did find it hard to hear you--max volume didn't help at all. Maybe it's the music? I've enjoyed the quietness of your previous videos. Just your soothing voice, words, and insight have made me a grateful subscriber.)
Hello! I am just back after 3 weeks in Maine and a hiatus from my online life! Many thanks for your comments, and for sharing about the sound. Sound challenges continue... we are ever trying to make it better! Onward...
I’m still all over the map in terms of style. I’m hoping my style will coalesce into a more distinctive direction
Sometimes style being all over the map is your style! Think about the breadth of your Artist voice as opposed to having only one style... cheers!
I heard someone say that being all over the place is a sign of great creativity, so I try to embrace it.
