Having come out of an emotionally/psychologically abusive relationship last year, it took me a while to come to grips with what had happened to me, and whether it was all in my head or not. This film struck a cord with me, deeply... They absolutely nailed it, the atmosphere and the subtle nature of the abuse, they really captured the core of it. I'm so grateful!
Emotional abuse is so insidious it's very scary. It's wonderful that there is a movie that shows that.
Anna's incredible in this film (and in general, actually!) I think she's magnificent!
Anna will win the Oscar for Best Actress
she definitely should have been nominated for this and many other films: "Into the Woods", "50/50", "A Simple Favor" and "Stowaway", just to name a few. she has only been nominated once, for best supporting actress for her role in "Up in the Air". she MUST win ONE DAY!!!! a truly phenomenal actress.
I usually don't watch movies dealing with abuse, but this is also a movie where a woman's two best friends come and save her.
Girl power!
This movie really stayed with me. Go see it in the theatre to get fully immersed in the tension.

Abusers who are the most effective at controlling someone else never even need to get physical.
They should have had a woman do the interview. Him laughing and, clearly, not comprehending what she meant and continuing to smile throughout the interview was almost ironic.
Please Top Gun: Maverick for the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song.

What wasn't addressed in the execution of this story was the inability of Alice's character to say "I don't like the way you're talking to me".... Wouldn't communication have nipped the abuse in the bud??
I think that the gradual verbal abuse and controlling manipulation took it's toll on her self-worth. Distancing herself from him was her first step towards getting back to her old self.
Wow you really missed the whole point of the movie. But you’re very lucky that you clearly have never experienced anything even close to emotional abuse to have said that
