    THANK YOU PHIL!!
I was a Dealer for 13 years in Las Vegas (Craps, Black Jack, and Poker), and I cannot say thank you enough for that comment about Dealer Abuse!
I have never understood attacking a Dealer. Ever. We don't _want_ anyone to lose (unless, of course, they are continually being an asshole!) We don't _force you_ to sit at the table and risk your Money!
95% of Dealers are actively hoping and praying that you WIN!
    This is for 2 reasons:
    1) It makes our job much easier and more enjoyable with a winning table and a genuinely happy group of players.
    AND...
    2) We live on TIPS! You don't Win, we don't make Money(usually).
For me, there is no better game to Deal than Craps. It's the most fun Game in the Casino, and if there is a Full Table and someone catches a long roll... Craps is THE BEST! Everyone is cheering and Clapping and having a great time! The anticipation of each roll is off the charts! There can be LITERALLY hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table during a long roll, and for the Dealers, there is no better time!
On the flip side, if a table is losing and miserable, that can make the job a living hell.
We know that you are losing money...
    WE KNOW.
Once again, we don't WANT to take it from you.
Please, if you read this and you are ever out Gambling again, please do not take your losses out on your Dealer that night. We sincerely are in your corner... we are almost always hoping you win. In fact, most of us will HELP YOU to increase your odds of winning IF you are decent to us.
    Anyway, Thank You Phil.
People like Mike Matasow need to watch this... and he also needs to seek counseling.

I agree with all you said. Most dealers do not want you to lose. However you can tell when someone is happy you’re losing. It’s a body language thing, the way they look at you. And I hate to tell you, I’ve sat down at blackjack tables with a dealer and I go on a losing streak and they’re HAPPY. Maybe they’re miserable SOB’s. But heck, I didn’t cuss them off or act like an ass. I just sat down, here I am losing and they’re happy. You can deny it, I agree dealer abuse happens to good dealers. You can also concede that there are bad dealers out there who don’t care about the tips, they’re miserable and enjoy seeing others be miserable

This was such a great interview. I started playing myself in 02 and Ivey was the man we all wanted to emulate and was blown away by in the "early" days (speaking from my generation, no shade thrown to the earlier legends), with you Barry always being the solid player that I looked up to and of course went through Ace on the River cover to cover many times. It's just amazing so many years later to look at this interview, with polar opposite playstyles but both making it, knowing all you guys' Bobbys room history and all that. Just a great piece having Ìvey open up like this and that phonecall you brought up. Him justifying taking a card of the flop with his 99 vs AQ Moneymaker hand (which intuitively seemed right to me as well for different reasons). Just a gold episode, can't express enough how much I enjoyed it. Insane cooler but still fun to hear both you guys talk about it.

Not sure if You or Phil read these comments, when I first began playing I had that feeling of "it was meant to happen. Learn from it" mentality. I didnt know any better, but intuitively I guess I did. After years I began to burnout, and that mentality slipped my mind. I began losing. But it was refreshing to hear Phil articulate that exact mentality back to the viewers, because it reminds me the only way to really be present in every single hand is to allow things to be. No outcome is guaranteed. Thanks Barry, thanks Phil. You guys are great for the game I really appreciate you two.

Phil doesn't seem like the most self-aware person. This and other interviews, I have seen people close to him keep saying they remember him differently than Phil does or they think felt a different way. I think Phil likes disagreeing with whatever people say he is like to seem in control of his self.

I put my heart and soul into the game and implemented some rules to the game. You guys are both class acts! Barry toked my a $500 chip 2 weeks before Christmas at the Bellagio. Till this day, I still feel much gratitude. Sorry to hear about Doyle as well.

I love his perspective of the game, and how much the game was played off the cusp back then. Before it was “gamed” and “solved.” A lot like Garry Kasparov’s perspective on chess. Like you can’t go back and criticize poor play 20 years ago, before a lot of the new age strategies were developed.

I agree with Phil. What happened in that moment was suppose to happen. Also think about the millions that Phil ended up winning because of the poker boom. If Moneymaker had not won the tournament would the poker boom have happened? That might not be a fair or correct question either. I think the poker boom would have happened, but with Moneymaker winning it happened a whole lot sooner. It was literally an over night boom once he won. The long term effect of it that all of the known and established poker professions benefitted from it was pretty significant.

Totally agree with Ivey on not regretting past decisions. Put it like this, your past self was doing the best it could to make the correct decision in the moment, there are all sorts of mitigating factors that will play into the decision making process at the time, not least of which previous hands.... so there is no point being overly critical of ones decisions, you should instead try to learn from it, not regret or criticize yourself but work out how you may have been more or less objective in the moment. Often times you'll realise though there is nothing you could have done better, you have to be thinking about the situation playing out many times and not be results orientated. I am a trader and the exact same process is present on reflection of past trades. There is nothing wrong with analysing and working out how or if you could do better next time but never regret a decision you made, it just isn't constructive. It's overly critical to your past self and your mind is a sensitive construct it can just rebel if beaten up too much, which can lead to analysis paralysis. Would you criticize someone else for a decision they made that cost them dearly, probably not unless you're an unempathetic and highly critical person, and you should treat yourself with the same respect.
