Doctor, forgive my ignorance ooo. Do you mean that prior to Jesus' death, there were no Christians or believers? If that is the case then which people he lashed for selling and doing all kinds of things in the church and which people was he teaching? There was some form of religious worship by the Jews/Pharisees and so on, in synagogues, before Jesus came. Jesus taught in some of those synagogues, and it was basically to inform the people about God's new plan for redemption for mankind, that involved his death and resurrection. Nicodemus was already worshipping God by the Jewish way, yet Jesus was still talking to him about being born-again. You become a Believer or Christian by becoming born-again. Believing in the death and resurrection of Christ is key to becoming born-again. That is why i do not see how someone could have become born-again before Jesus died and resurrected.
