  • A few people have expressed the desire for me to record a video on my bike with a walkaround and some hooligan revving and recording of the exhaust...
    Well here it is gentlemen and ladies of distinction and good bearing.
    Filmed on my iPhone so not a great frame rate and a bit wobbly. Managed to rattle it off in a lunch hour.
    Hope you like! Feel free to ask questions in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them correctly! :-)
    Thanks again for watching! Really very kind of you.
    Until next time! Pip pip!

    I've had a Thruxton 900 for two years now and this weekend fitted a steering damper from Tec bike parts. What a transformation to the handling of the bike! Fantastic! Highly recommended. 👍

    Captain Rambunctious I'm starting to enjoy your videos on the Triumph Thruxton 900! I'm 46 and a returning rider and I'm considering getting one I thought about a big twin for a while but I'm not ready for it at the moment. I just want to get back on a bike and enjoy riding again! thanks!

      +bballromper The Thruxton has a slightly more extreme leg position that the Bonnie. If your knees are fine, then go for the THruxton. If not, then the Bonnie is just as good and you can customise the bonnie more easily to what you want it to be anyway! ;-) Good luck and thank you for watching...

    Hello Captain R. Always enjoy your videos. I currently own a Laverda RGS1000. but having owned it for 20+ years it's gonna have to go for aThruxton. As usual I've fallen for a younger prettier model that wants me to do things to her the "old girl" would never stand for. Mid life crisis or just plain kinky, it's a Thruxton for me soon. Thanks Captain.:-)

      There's SO much you can do. Things to add, replace or remove. You can even get rid of most of the electrics and have it open framed. I'm too scared to do that, but with a straight forward bonnie as a blank canvas, you could do anything from a cruiser to a bobber to a cafe racer to a scrambler street tracker...

      Cory Singe \oh yes. I ,managed to get 83 bhp out of the Thruxton in the end. After all, the Street Triple was only 98bhp st the rear wheel.
      It was a different bike. It looks different and gives you a different feel. I preferred my Thruxton to my Street Triple.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 10 lety

      Well I just checked. I thought that it should be 140, but this is a 130/80. I might have a word with them tomorrow to ask if it's the right tyre, because the old one was definitely 140. Maybe that is why it appears to be more curved?

  • @theincrediblesulk5543
    @theincrediblesulk5543 Před 8 lety

    I know this bike is long gone but could you list the things you love and hate about this bike? I'm currently on a GSXR and have narrowed down my next bike to a 2012 speed triple or a 2013 Thruxton (I know strange to be comparing) would love to hear your thoughts between the two as you have a lot of exp with both

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 8 lety +2

      Well I had the 2013 Thruxton and spent weeks on the older Speed Triple. When I recently bought my Thruxton R, it was instead of the new Speed Triple R!
      The older Thruxton had plenty of charm, and 'enough' performance, but that was the reason I ended up getting rid of it. I wanted more performance.
      If you can fall in love with the charm of the older Thruxton, and can put up with the mediocre (but perfectly good) brakes, the weight (230kgs wet) and 70bhp and 52 ftlbs of torque, and the looks and style and how the more classic looks make you feel, then get one. I loved it for ever until I got bored of the performance.
      The older Speed Triple is also very different to the new one, but is an absolute riot of performance. Basically, it's the handling and feel of the engine that make it.
      So it's a choice of classic looks and fun, or raw power, fun, riot and giggles.
      Personally, I would get the older Speed Triple, but then I have bough the newer Thruxton because it is SUCH a step up from the old one, it trumps even the new Speed Triple R, but that's the new one...
      Is that all too weak?

    • @theincrediblesulk5543
      @theincrediblesulk5543 Před 8 lety

      +Captain Rambunctious thanks for that awesome reply very informative from an actual owner. I am swaying towards a red Speed Triple as you have confirmed my fears that one would get bored of the performance, shame as the Thruxton looks and sounds gorgeous

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 8 lety +1

      +The Incredible Sulk if the looks and sound are enough for you then that should be fine. Do they beat the actual performance? For me it was enough for 2 years after all!

  • @robertnewitt6785
    @robertnewitt6785 Před 8 lety

    Love the Thruxton! Do you own any other bikes? I'm thinking of the Rocket, the new Bonnie T120 or a Thruxton.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 8 lety +1

      +Robert Newitt I only have one at a time. I had this bike for 2 years. I then had a Thunderbird Storm for 3 months, and now a Tiger 800 XRT. I had a Street Triple for a year before the Thruxton... I just rode the new T120 and Thruxton R... Maybe I'll get one of those but we'll see. :-)
      IF I could have more than one bike and money was no object, I would have the Thunderbird Storm again as a cruiser, the new Thruxton R, the new Speed Triple R, Tiger 800 XRT and the Ducati 899... :-)

    • @robertnewitt6785
      @robertnewitt6785 Před 8 lety +1

      +Captain Rambunctious you changed the T bird quickly? Any reason as I did have it on my list originally. I rode the Rocket, great fun but maybe too much to live with! Which did you prefer between the T120 and Thruxton, I am leaning towards the Bonnie probably because of the riding position. I am waiting to test ride both. Cheers Rob

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 8 lety +1

      +Robert Newitt the main reason was that I threw it around like t wasn't a cruiser and hurt my back! Cruisers aren't for me even if it was an excellent bike... Couldn't fault it.
      T120 is excellent and practical but the Thruxtin is so much better and fun.

  • @Akkiben
    @Akkiben Před 6 lety +1

    Hi Captain, what mods were needed to achieve 83bhp?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 6 lety

      Akilesh Bennett pipes, air box removal, racing cams, Dyno with power commander...this will be at the crank though, not at the rear wheel. You lose about 8% from crank to rear wheel...
      I hope that this helps...

  • @MrJpb2000
    @MrJpb2000 Před 9 lety

    Hi Captain...random question. If you were to purchase a limited edition Triumph (such as the Thruxton Ace) would you still customise it? I absolutely love what you have done to your awesome machine but just wondered if you would do the same to a limited edition Triumph.
    Regards,
    MrJPB2000. 😎

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 9 lety +1

      Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Yes, I would customies. Especially with the new 2015 Ace Cafe Thruxton. For the money that they spent on it (the paintjob really), I would have done the pipes and fork gaiters and other things. The rear shocks are nice, but again, another £100 would have got MUCH nicer ones.
      I think that when Triumph release a 'custom' they can't give it better pipes because they are still bound by European Emission laws (noise AND gas) so the best they do is maybe Arrows, but they are still added AFTER the initial marketing.
      There is so much you can do. I've asked for another sprocket cover, key relocation bracket, and brass fuel cap for Christmas for mine. So much to do! :-)
      Thanks for the question. Glad you are interested! :-D

      +Captain Rambunctious What's the name of your exhaust ? British Custom Predator (not the shorty version), without baffles ? I don't really like the sound of TEC, Arrow ; I like the Zard ones.
      Thanks and awesome bike, I got a Thruxton Ace, lovely.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 9 lety

      TheJusticeCross Absolutely spot on. The British Customs Predators (non shorty). They don't have baffles. They have a mechanical baffle that you can't change but it makes them legal... ish... ;-)

    • @TheJusticeCross
      @TheJusticeCross Před 9 lety +1

      There is a baffle in the predators that you can't put off ? But it is loud enough isn't it ? I've read that they were the noisiest, and if it's impossible to put the baffle off, they are the loudest eventhough they have a db-killer/baffle... Strange.but nice.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  Před 9 lety

      TheJusticeCross It's not really a baffle, more a collection of vanes inside which help the flow... Hence not removable but they call it a permanent mechanical baffle...
