THE GRASSHOPPERS - TWIN BEAT

- 1965 instrumental tune from popular Cleveland band The Grasshoppers, of which one Benjamin Orzechowski (later Benjamin Orr, bassist/vocalist for The Cars) was a member (pictured second from right on rhythm guitar). This tune written by Sid Turner, The Grasshoppers' drummer. B-side of the single "Mod Socks"
Note: I have no proof that Ben is one of the 'twin beats' in this recording; however, since Ben was known to play a drum duel with Sid Turner (the Grasshoppers' drummer) in the band's sets, I'm thinking that it probably is Ben.
Ben said in an interview that he had a great love for rockabilly. It really is evident in this song!!
I think it was Elliot who said that
Sounds way more like surf than rockabilly…
This is the first time that I saw this video. My dad was the Grasshoppers bass player(Jerry Zadar).
He just did an interview for the soon to be released book on Benny Orr.
I am a keyboard player and have been playing out since 1982 and I still am playing out.
I have been to the recording studio with a some bands to record original songs.
I have my own music web site too listed in My Channel/About.
Hi! Very cool to hear from you. I hope your Grasshopper Dad is doing well. I can't wait to read Joe's book about Ben when it comes out. Will check out your music. Great to hear that it runs in the family!
Tom Zadar Thats awesome Tom,can you post a link if there's one to share your music,I'd love yo hear it.You can share it here and I can share it on my pages if you'd like, let me know👍😊
Tom Zadar I pre-ordered my copy from my friend Joe who wrote it,can't wait to read it.I'm excited for Joe and Benjamin 👍💕❤💜
That is awesome, yes hope he's doing great too,Bless you both 😇😊
Hi, my dad is doing well. He came to see my band play recently. Were looking forward to Ben's book also. I went to Valley Forge too like Ben did. My band played there two times, once for a school dance in the cafeteria and once in the auditorium.
Just realizing Ben was old enough to be my dad but he looked so young.
It must have been a blast to be at those shows back in the day. Dancing craze.
The Grasshoppers were on of my favorites..I also love Mod Socks.
Thank you for sharing these :)
@@littlesparks I love them, especially after reading all about these in Joe Milliken's wonderful biography Let's Go: Benjamin Orr and The Cars :). I decided to create a Facebook page (Benjamin Orr Electric Angel Rock and Roller) dedicated to honour his memory and to share his music, his performances and make sure we all remember this wonderful musician and brave , kind , courageous man. Warmest regards from Tasmania, Tia :)
Beatles, Crickets, Grasshoppers, insects clearly were very popular among 1960's musicians....

We were from Cleveland Ohio and THIS tune was as popular as "Wipeout" also MOD Socks was on the set list-among others by :The Beatles" of course... Won alot of "Drum Off" Competitions at Dances with this one - Then went strictly "Vocalist" discovering the Lead Singer got all the Girls-lol... and STILL REcording !! RIP Brother
That's so cool. Wish I was there to see all that. I'm jealous. Thanks for sharing your memories! Cleveland rocks
It sounds like small young grasshoppers :-)
They sounded like The Ventures.
My friends and I wanted to start a band called “The Grasshoppers” but these guys beat us to it 🙄
Haha
And these weren't the only Grasshoppers. There was a Minneapolis band at the same time called the Grasshoppers, and I bet there were at least a couple of others elsewhere.
Great drums !!!
😎 cool as
where can i find more of The Grasshoppers stuff?
There is another instrumental that I have heard, but it was an acetate apparently. A friend of mine had it taped off a Cleveland radio station.
littlesparks1970 yes I think I found that instrumental too on here,I'll post it here soon as I find it again. Look for my purple rose and name.
Search for The Grasshoppers followed by any of the following:
The Wasp (instrumental)
Pink Champagne and Red Roses
Mod Socks
I Love You
Love Me Baby (the latter two include a patented Ben Orr growl 😊)
Is there a disciple and drummer in there
Did they ever appear on ABS?
What's that
@@littlesparksDick Clark American Bandstand ,sorry bandstand is only one word. Lol
@@dianegargano175 I personally have only heard of those two local TV shows, but that would be very cool if they were on Dick Clark’s show 😍
@@littlesparks it's crazy that they weren't even jimi Hendrix was on there.
I thought it was video
I wish it was!
@@littlesparksI bet anything that all the early TV and video footage of Ben ,Ben n Ric and the cars like at the Augora is all in Rics stuff . Ric was to "on it" for there not to more.
@@dianegargano175 That would be great to see and hear some more Cars stuff in the future. Yep I'm sure there is plenty more somewhere.
