    My feet always freeze on long flights to Europe, so I put a packet of "HotHands Insole Foot Warmers" in my personal item bag. 👜 These thin pads are air-activated and last for 8-9 hours. They keep me comfortable and make it easier to sleep on the plane. I put them in my shoes during my final restroom visit prior to boarding, or as soon as we can get up and move once we've taken off. They have been a game changer me on long flights. Don't forget to pack another set for the return flight! 🦶👟🧳

    Take a baby aspirin the day before and day of flight. It helps stop blood clots. Any flight longer than three hours ( or car trip) I take a baby aspirin.

    • @robbd44
      @robbd44 Před rokem +2

      @Laura Atwood yes as a nurse who knows my medical history, I take a baby aspirin but I keep very hydrated the day before I fly or drive, the day we travel and the day after. I mean 8-10 glasses of water in order to keep the blood less concentrated. I always get aisle seats and stand at my seat and do exercises on a plane. If in the car, we pull over every 2 hours even if we walk around for a few minutes. In my camper, I pull over and walk around in the camper and do some yoga poses as well.
      Very important to avoid blood clots at all costs.

    Wow. This was really interesting to watch. The sheer volume of what you recommend carrying was startling to me. I totally understand that comfort is important and am not even saying these are not good ideas. It's just that I started flying in 1976 as an Army officer and over time have gone lighter and lighter. Now I'm at the point where I never check a bag and carry a normal sized backpack for all I need. I'm going to Paris in September and will make it just fine with one bag. I carry just a small bit of lotion in a contact lens case for the flight because one of my favorite things to do when I arrive at my destination is shop in a local store for things like shampoo and lotion. It's fun to see a normal store in local neighborhood and scope out what is offered. You don't "have to have" a water bottle as flights and airports have easily accessible water. I like to buy a delicious sandwich at the airport to carry on in place of the airline offering. But other than that my advice is to travel light as much as possible. Make it a game because really even a long flight is only a small amount of the journey. There's no need to make the flight into a survival mode exercise. I find the biggest help to comfort is to stand and stretch at least once an hour if you aren't sleeping. A walk up and down the aisle is nice but just standing next to your seat will help a great deal. Having said all that, I enjoyed your video and have no doubt that lots of people will find value in it.

    • @aWanderlustForLife
      @aWanderlustForLife  Před rokem +6

      I appreciate your comment! I do find that different people have different needs during the long 12-13 hour flights. But I'm so glad you don't have such issues 😊 Some airlines only give cups of water so you have to keep asking. I just find it more convenient to keep a larger amount with me and have a lid. But having less also has its benefits!

      @jainthorne4136 Před rokem +3

    Be careful of weight and dimension limits for carry-on and personal item bags - especially on European airlines! Many of them have an 8 kg limit (17.6 lbs). I'm flying Swissair later this year, and carry-ons can't exceed 55x40x23 cm (21.5 x 15.7 x 9"). Measure and weigh bags yourself (advertised dimensions are often incorrect). Make sure to include handles and wheels - which can add 2-3". Personal items can't exceed 40x30x10 cm - less than 4 inches wide! Also, airline personnel in other countries may be stricter about limits than their U.S. counterparts, although U.S. airlines seem to be imposing increasingly stricter limits.

    • @aWanderlustForLife
      @aWanderlustForLife  Před rokem +3

      My tips are mostly for European airlines as it's all I fly. And they vary greatly in weight restrictions, also can depend on the type of ticket you buy. Picking up a luggage scale is always a good idea! You tend to learn which airlines actually weigh your bags and which don't 😂

    Excellent advice! LOVE the shawl foot hanger trick!! As someone who has to use the toilet somewhat frequently, needless to say I booked an aisle seat. When at all possible on large planes and when travelling alone, I book end seats where nobody is sitting behind me (in case you’re lucky to get those seat kickers sitting behind you lol).

    The scarf footrest is GENIUS!! I’m the opposite - 6’1, and my feet definitely touch the ground but it’s almost a bad thing hahah it adds an extra pull on my lower back because the weight of my legs aren’t really supported since so much hangs off the seat 🤣

Sometimes, I even changed my whole outfit if I had been on a plane 8 hours or more before my connecting flight. You can also bring legwarmers if you still own any. Thanks for the tips. I’d add a few N95 face masks, as they're still required in some locations, and strongly suggested by some airlines.

      Absolutely! This isn't everything I recommend you carry on the plane. Just pieces that make it extra comfortable. 🙂

    Any tips for exit row people? We've got a 13 1/2 hour to Malaysia and so no seat in front to put bag under 😱 I won't eat food on the plane so have to have my own food in the bag so don't want it miles away

    • @aWanderlustForLife
      @aWanderlustForLife  Před rokem +1

      If it's just the exit row and a seat is in front of you and you just meant that it has to go over you since it's an exit row, then, I believe you can use the seat in front of you can take it out of the overhead and under the seat after take off as long as it's under the seat. Then has to go back up before landing.
      Also, you could get a galloon sized plastic bag to put things in the seat pocket. If no proper seat pocket, a along bag like a fanny-pack could be used around the tray. If no seat at all but you have the window seat, you may be able to put a small bag with snacks next to you on the floor after take-off.

      @@aWanderlustForLife thank you I appreciate it 😁 we don't have a seat in front it's like a class divider for the premium economy so I'll just put the bag to my side I guess :)

    I wish you had linked all the things that you have in that pack that you're going to hook to the tray table

      I've now done that flight 8 times in my life (once with mild food poisoning 😒) and I have to say that it's not as bad as it seems. Also, depending on your airline and seats, it could actually be better that you think! Once we got a two seat row instead of three!

    The person in the seat in front of you will hate you for useing the footsling scarf. You will move the seat!!

      The planes I've been in do not have the trays attached to the back of the seat, but instead, are bolted at the base of the seat. It cannot pull on the back of the seat. Of course, there are always differences in planes, but as a frequent flier, this is my experience.

    The beginning needs editing it stops and starts and I don’t know that you understand that watching the video on this side you hold something up say it’s gross then something else happens and you get cut off and then you start the video maybe watch it on your end from the beginning

    Using the scarf wrapped around the tray on the seat in front of you will constantly bounce that person's seat every time you move your feet. Very inconsiderate for that poor person. After all. it is THEIR seat. Better to pull out your personal bag and put your feet on that if you need to.

      Guess it depends on the planes. I'm literally in a plane now looking at the set-up. The tray is bolted at the crossbar at the bottom and not to the seat.
