- Movie Hill Climbing HD, shot in Bernex, High-Savoy, France, 2009 - short version. Motorcycle climbing race.
Hill-climbing is an individual motorcycle race where the competitor is confronted with a natural, unpaved, extremely difficult coastline (more than 45% of gradient in general), or considered to be impassable. The goal is to get to the top as fast as possible or to climb as high as possible on the slope. Regulations vary greatly depending on the location and most often the gear used are prototypes.
Not to be confused with the Hillclimbing which takes place on traditional uphill roads and where time is the only discriminant. The impossible climb would be closer to the motocross.
This competition originated in the United States in the 1900s. The emerging brands of Harley-Davidson, Indian, and Excelsior motorcycles used coastal challenges to test their production. Hill-Climbing's first known event dates back to May 30, 1903. The NYMC (New York Motorcycle Club) organized an event at Riverdale Hill. It is considered one of the oldest forms of motorcycle racing. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I don't understand a single word of French, but the language of the bikes, the hill, the beautiful country, the look on the racers faces, now that I understand, it is universal. Brought a smile to this old guy, remembering days and rides gone by, trying to conquer my own hills, with my Maico 490......
I really hope this hill climb keeps going for for many more generations. I really like the enthusiasm of the crowd.... reminds me of America of old....just such a good quality video, captures the warrior spirit of the racers perfect, thanks from Seattle.
Merci
Can't beat Roger decoster or Malcolm .at saddle back don't leave Steave macren seen him at

Class. Thank you.
And thank you for no music, just the raw sounds of bike power. 👏👏
Thanks for noticing it

Фоновая музыка неплохо ложится на рёв мотора.

And the awesome videography as well! Looks like tilt-shift lenses were used for many of the shots and provided a great effect. Rarely do you really get a feel for the steepness of the hill and surrounding area.
When I was a kid there was this guy Malcolm Smith. He would go to hill climbs in California rain or shine and win with a stock motocross bike against the hill climbing specialist rides. The man was a genius rider and he proved its more about skill than rear swing arm ext., tire size, torque etc. Malcolm rode those heavy Husqvarna's and won many climbs as the only rider to the top. Hill climbing is one of the few bike sports that hasn't really changed much over time like trial riding, and road racing.
He probably didn't even run nail tires either lol.
@@bikersoncall that was illegal
@@mwyatt222 Ha , good, its a
wood chipper waiting to happen.
@@bikersoncall there are 'spotters' that are responsible for making sure the bikes dont roll back down onto onlookers. Sometimes they 'catch' them rolling downhill. Their job would be even tougher w/ a 2 stroke motor wide open with a tire spinning like a wood chipper. Yes true.
ice racing on spikes is cool AF tho
I'm 60 and I still go playing in a nearby quarry on my 1972 Suzuki 250. You can't beat the adrenaline rush of surviving a heart-stopper when you push too far 😀
I'd bet that your '72 Suzuki could climb that hill better than any of them. Those bikes are too heavy and geared WAY too high for hill climbing. It's not about speed; it's about traction and enough horsepower to keep going. Slow and steady with some standard knobby tires and you'll get up there easily on any old dirt bike
You can't be too far away because that's where I grew up riding and learned how to swim!
I'm 72 on a crf 250L riding country dirt roads and loggin roads... agility over speed anyway...keep pushin
I don't understand why they don't put the engines behind them.
@@need100k any old dirt bike with 4 wheels, knobs and about 150 HP…..say like a Polaris Rzr with front bumper weights and a winch 😳
I have never had a chance to travel and have always lived in USA. Videos like this make me realize how alike we are. This seems very similar to the hill climbs in Livermore Ca. except the hills are more lush in France.
We used to do this back in the 70’s on psychedelic drugs. What a time to be alive.
god that sound amazing not to much tho lol
When did it change?
The guy who ran about 80 feet down a mountain steeper than the stairs in my house while wearing motocross boots. Gets my vote. And he must have broken a speed record. He’s doing about 30 mph well done that man.
Climbing out of my bed in the morning for work is difficult enough! Have to salute these guys
Love the way you capture the look on everyone's face at the beginning. Speaks volumes.
To me this is the most interesting.
Race looks like going to heaven.thanks a lot.
On many of the competitors you can actually see the fight between fear and resolve in their eyes. Like most top-level sports, the real struggle is mostly in the mind. Good job capturing this!
Thanks a lot
Fighting your nerves is half the battle, skills are the other half. Tho I've done hills this vertical, I couldn't do the length without losing momentum. It takes gutz to do this shyt. Respect.
Техника безопасности, персонал, организация, всё на высоте. Молодца.
3:50 is the first shot I've ever seen that shows just how steep the hill is.
I feel like I’ve previously seen some lunatics running down this hill chasing a cheese!
Cheesy comment!!
Lmao
That’s the British, cheese Gromit
Give a man a hill..........
Yep, here where I'm from..... Gloucestershire...
The look on some of their faces was priceless. Their faces were saying ''Damn why did this thing start."
I was going to say, they look French.
So something like: The look on their faces was priceless. Their faces where saying "putain, pourquoi mon moteur démarre-t-il."
This to me was just priceless, like an actual movie, it sets the scene beautifully. Just top notch film making.
А я также смотрела на экипировку.
That was just awesome. And I have some chance of conquering that hill, even though I am 56 and American!! ;-)
Vive la France!!
You are welcome !
Guys love what you all do. Respect to you all. Great vid
Well done! Captured the true essence of the event. Thank you for not drowning the whole works with music.

This is just awesome you don't reliase the angle till you see from top of hill.
Agreed two stroke FTW
This would be awesome to see live such a beautiful location skilled riders and being French most likely great food as well
When I can travel again... It will be 😊
butter and salt can make anything taste good.
My dad took me to watch a hill climb over 50 years ago in White City IL. There was a guy they called Mr. Back Asswords. He would go up backwards sitting on the handlebars. Will never forget that
having the cameras on top and on the side of the hill it really show how steep they have to climb, great to see, all the best to every one
Excelent, looks like a highway to heaven. Thanks a lot.
Merci
try Stairway
Looks more like a ordinary road in north of sweden...
As a aa
The riders, the bikes are fantastic but the guy who shot and edited this is a star.
Some serious skill and engineering on display here!
And you cannot ask for lovelier scenery!
Magnifique!
I love to see what ingenious designs the teams come up with.
Funny how a older engine will have as good a chance as a modern one....
the green bike with the big bore two stroke went right up...light and nimble..and these guys with their stretched 800+ pound inline 4 street bike engine and spiked rear car tire struggle to beat the band!!!!
Torque and great suspension setup are key. That was fun.
Video definitely doesn’t do this hill justice. That is a massive and steep climb. Great video work
My beautiful region, vive les gars de la Haute!
Achei que ninguém ia conseguir chegar até o final
Legal o vídeo
👍👍👍
Marcelo, What he said...

Look's like a combination of speed, torque, momentum, tire bite, balance, and knowing how to control your throttle that get's you to the top!!!!
Anyone from the UK remember 'Kick Start' ? ;)
Yup, even the intro music and animation.
I watched that on CZcams the other day
Motorcycle trials, which is what 'Kickstart' was, is alive and well!. Children can now start from as young as 4.

Vous avez détecté toutes les intentions. Merci de ce commentaire.
10:10 this Guy just made it!!!
First time in all of these hillclimb videos that I've seen a competitor make it!

This is the best video of its kind I've ever seen. It really captured what I wanted to see.

At minut 10.08 a guy reached the top.
This is an extreme sport
the tilt-shift shots are brilliant.

Superbes images et très bon montage, merci! 🤘🏻
From U.S. LOVE the creativeness of these bikes & the toughness it takes. We have hill climbs here to, you guys are stretched a little more I think ? But it looks like an event by my home,, we're not as different as some think.
We don't really take creatine or drug to built body hère 😜

Awesome, the last guy in Blue rode it like The Boss!
Ай как там весело !
Даааа прикольная тема!!!!
These guys should watch the videos time and again same way football coaches do the players in the locker room doing research figureing out what they could do different for a better outcome........
Keren Amerika
wrong observation!
And then you hit that unexpected dirt clod with your front tire.
Or it's that danged flat rock you would have rather skipped across a pond. That you're back tire spun on causing you to lose the traction you had planned so perfectly in keeping.
Shows the complete difference between planning your line and being able to stay on your line.
And the video is not uploaded when you're the person they're going to be videoing.
Besides that stuff gets thrown around and then rocks being spit out from here and there, landing in other places and the mud drying up or being wetter all changes things.... constantly.
Then the rut that was neing dug by everybody was creating to get to the top. Got too deep and your pegs drag on the sides of it, stopping you or throwing off your balance.
Most of the guys that make it to the top do so never having to plant thwir feet down for support. They ride the bike, many in the standing position. Never having to put a foot down to keep from tipping over. Great riding, great balance.
Parabéns pelo vídeo incrível. Isso é para quem tem raça.
For a few minutes, I had begun to think this was truly an “Impossible Hill”! I lost count, but I’m guessing less than 10 made it all the way to the finish line. I felt sorry for a couple of riders who got within a couple of feet to the finish line. That HAD to suck!
Cool event, awesome video, crazy riders. I love it. Thanks for sharing.
Merci
So many factors involved in a successful run; Horsepower, gearing, initial speed from start, maintaining momentum, traction, bike setup, rider position, rider skill, line taken, ruts from prior runs, and more.
I would be terrified to even climb that hill on my hands and knees (I don't like heights), but these riders just...go!
mec merci du partage exelent boulot au montage une petite bombe ta vidéo merci !
belle prise de vue !
Merci
Félicitations et merci pour le partage de ce magnifique montage vidéos, bravo à tous les pilotes et aux organisateurs

8:12 I didn't know Hyde from "That 70's Show" was into hillclimbs! 😉😁
I like how the guys at the top of the hill sit there and watch the bike roll down the hill there sightseeing🏁
👏 parabéns a todos os pilotos que isso que todos eles fizeram,,, 👏 não é pra qualquer um, 😨😱✌🙌mesmo o que tentou 💥💥💥💥👍🔥😩
If you guys cut head tube and apply a lot less rake to the front and maybe shorten the front shock you will be able to climb further. The massive rake is making you guys want to flip backwards.
Terry Sanchez I was just wondering the same. Even jack the back up. Don’t know if there a rule on bike specs.
I also have know idea about this sport, looks scary fun though.
15:28 Looks like a stretched out 450 and straight to the top! True rider, I don't need no stinkin street bike engine!
I think most of these guys just build these bikes for the build, the actual climb is secondary.
You could be right, i like this do it yourself part of it
wow. never seen this before ..i love it...
