What do the clamps grab on to? It feels as if it will only grab onto the plastic cap.

Hi Thomasz, The clamps grab onto the sheet metal in the stake pocket.

Did you have to cut out the rear stake pocket?

Depends on your application, if the rear stake pockets are covered you will need to cut them out to install the rack rails.

Are the uprights slidable? Or are they fixed?
