  • I have a really special treat for you today! In this video my shul (synagogue) gets a new Torah! This is a HUGE deal and I will take you along for the whole thing. We start with me getting ready and then going to the celebration dinner, while I chat with you about how we got the new Torah scroll. The second part of the video is the finishing of the writing of the Torah at a big party followed by the parade through the streets with our new Torah scroll! I will talk you through the whole thing, explaining as we go what's going on, why, and its significance.
    Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

    I wanted to mention that after we paraded the Torah to our Shul (Synagogue), there was more dancing with music and singing and celebrating. We chose not to attend that since my husband could not go as he is still in a period of mourning for his father. Just wanted to clarify and add that info!

    I enjoyed learning all about the Torah Scroll, It seems that there are many celebrations and feasts with Jewish people and the Jewish faith. I have had Jewish friends and I have gone to some of the celebrations on Holy days but I have learned so much more by watching your channel. I never really asked very many questions about Judaism because I didn't want to be intrusive or rude to my friends. Thank you for sharing your and teaching us all who are willing to watch and listen all about your faith.

    Thank you for including this. For most of us this can only be a once in a lifetime event. It reminded me of the 260 year-old Torah scroll, rescued from Poland, still being used here. Whose hands held that quill? May that this scroll have such an inheritance! It deserves the whole Jewish community escorting it on it’s way home. If only I could have had such a day. Chaya

    What a great celebration!! As new Catholics we are learning about processions. We had one last week. Protestants do not do that so it is a new practice for us. As a Spanish. CAtholic processions can be truly extra, At least in Spain and latin american countries. It's a moment to go and walk with the figure. Here we put the sculptures and we parade them around the town. Take processions as the "catholic pride parade".

      I think having a solid friendship along with shared values and goals are a must in marriage along with the ability to let a lot of the annoying little things go make for a good marriage.....along with a sense of humour especially when you have kids too.......and the realistic vision to know that you won't always agree but you can compromise on most things family related!
      As I said your husband looks a really lovely person and that good spirit comes through on his very fleeting appearances!

    Mazel tov, Mazel tov, Chana to you, your family and your community!! 🎉🎉 🎊🎊
    It is so exciting to have the mitzva of a new Torah scroll!!! Thank you for sharing your community's joy!!
    Our community is also writing a new Torah scroll. It was started in very early Kislev and we expect it to be completed by next Kislev. It started with a generous donation from a beautiful family in our community because they heard of a story in which a plague was happening and the community had a new Torah scroll written and the plague ended! So, due to the plague of these times, they would get the process started..
    I donated for a Parsha to honor of my younger daughter whose birthday was the same week that the sofer was starting to write the Torah. I also donated for a letter -- first letter of our names -- for me, my daughter and my three grandchildren.
    We had a ZOOM celebration to kick things off and got to watch up close the sofer write the first word. We plan, Bezras Hashem, to have an in-person celebration when it's complete! Ooh! Can't wait!!!

    Hi Chana loved this video. I love how the Jewish religion enjoys celebrating so many things and you don't have half hearted celebrations either, you go to town with it :) As Christians we wouldn't have a big celebration for a New Bible, but the way Jews have such joy over their New Torah is just wonderful. May I ask, with the Torah writing, is it only the male members of the family that write on the families behalf or do the women have a go aswell?

      So glad you enjoyed this video! Thank you for your kind words :) We are called the people of the book for a reason suppose 😊 We definitely love our Torah and celebrate it! To answer your question, yes women can write as well. I was offered to write a letter at this event, but I declined since it’s only an obligation for men. I was happy for my husband to do it for me :)

    There is a you tuber named Peter Santenello who does some videos of the Jewish community with the help of Shloime Zionce. One of the videos that they did was one of this celebration. It's very fun learning about this.

    Great video! Was this a historic occasion? How often does a synagogue get a new Torah? What is a tad? (Spelling) the pointer with a little hand.

      @jaroffireflies  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Lisa! Its definitely a huge deal. Some people never see their synagogue get a new Torah. For others it can easily be a once in a lifetime event.

    Such an interesting event. I love how everyone had a chance to ‘add’ to the Torah. And such a beautiful document.
    Question: as new members or families join your Shul, do they write in it as well?

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  Před 3 lety +2

      I am so glad you enjoyed this! So if a new member joins or someone visits after this event, the Torah has already been completed and cannot be added to. They would need to wait until we get another one (if we get another one, we have two so I’m not sure how likely we are to do that any time soon).

    Chana, the Bare Minerals powder needs to be buffed into your skin in circular motions. You don't need a lot. Put enough powder in the kids, as if you are putting powdered chocolate on a latte, that's all you need. Then buff into the skin in circular motions, until you get the coverage you want. As you work, the powder comes out of the bristles. Circling it helps the foundation melt into your skin, so you won't need as much.
    If you get mascara on your skin, wait for it to dry, then slide a blade from a tweezer under the blob, and it will come off with nothing remaining. And, for a natural looking lipstick, choose a colour you could wear without any other make up, i.e. Similar to the colour of your own lips, then it won't ever be to much.
    Hope this helps. Xxx

    A respectful question: What is done with the old Torah Scrolls? Perhaps donated to a synagogue who needs one? Or something else? Practical sense to me says they are too valuable to just put in the back of the closet as a backup Torah. Absolutely love your heart! Oh...and of course, learning about Orthodox Judaism!💕

    • @jaroffireflies

      Hello! We keep the other older Torah scrolls. I believe they are buried respectfully after they are entirely unusable.

    i would have thought the torah would be replaced sooner with how much its read/used, but it gets to show you that if you take good care of things you cherish, they can last a lifetime.

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  Před 3 lety +1

      They definitely last a long time! We take extremely good care of them. For example the yad (pointer) is used so we don't need to touch the Torah with our hands which would cause damage over time.
