I had a similar experience in 7th grade, I got really close to a girl in theatre class. She was spontaneous, funny, beautiful, and had an amazing sense of humor.
I had the biggest crush on her for a year, but different to this CZcams video I never confessed my feelings because I didn’t think she felt the same..
7th grade comes close to being over and I get the news that my family is moving away. I tell all my friends, and eventually tell the girl I had grown close with. The last day of me being at school before I moved I’m walking back to my locker with my good friend/crush as we had done a million times before. She stops and turns to me and says:
“Why didn’t you ever ask me out? I was waiting that whole time.”
Damn, hit me like a bag of bricks. I had no idea that she reciprocated those feelings for me and always thought she just saw me as a friend. My lack of being transparent about my feelings left me with a sense of regret for a long time afterwards.
Moral of the story, even if you fear being rejected, always say what’s on your heart and mind. Because if you don’t take those chances in life then you’ll be left with a feeling of regret and you’ll never know how they feel in return. 👍

I appreciate this... Its quite insightful and I am in a very very very similar situation. It opened my eyes to the fact, people are different, friends are just that... friends. Some last a lifetime, some last for a short while, but the rule of thumb here is that such is life. Fighting it will only make it worse for yourself.

It might still be hard to stay friends after confessing, sure you might fantasize about getting more intimate. But I'd like to believe in most cases you can stay friends after letting the person know.
We can. A guy told me he liked me, we'd been friends for 3 years, and I just never liked him like that. We're still good friends, still talk every day.
I knew for a while before he said it that he liked me, and I'm glad he told me, because it was difficult knowing without knowing. I think him telling me took a weight off of both of us.

I highly recommend you explicitly reject him as early as possible. Like I said, that's my main takeaway. If I want to stay friends with a girl I need to crush any hope that something more can happen. So I stop even entertaining the idea of it becoming romantic.
The girls who I'm friends with, either I rejected them, or I don't find them attractive or they made it very clear that they don't think of me that way. Once that is clear then it's harder to misunderstand their platonic affection as romantic interest.
I think most guys struggle with that, it gets even harder when you love her. Optimism bias comes into play and you want to believe that she likes you.
I'm biased but my stance on these topics are clear. A person in love is mentally compromised. He deserves some level of sympathy and understanding. If you genuinely feel you will never date him, that he is not going out there and finding someone who can actually love and desire him. You aren't being a good friend of his.
Being led on is a consequence that doesn't require you to explicitly do anything. It's not your fault but it can still happen. A girl can smile at some guys too often and he will think she likes him 😂, not her fault but he does think he has a chance and that will affect his behaviour.
Think about all the stakeholders involved. Like you said, you have a conflict of interest here. Both of you are enjoying the friendship but at the end, eventually his feelings will likely grow deeper and it will end with a painful heartbreak for him or many lost years where he could can cultivated a more fulfilling relationship.
Again it's not my place to decide. Hell if it's me... I'd rather stay friends than not talk to my crush let along someone I know for so long and love. The only reason I managed to give up on this friendship is because she was finally kind enough to explicitly tell me she doesn't have anything but platonic affection towards me. I needed to hear that explicitly. It was hard for her. I was her best friend and she doesn't have many friends.
I have many friends and they helped me a lot. It sucks that I can't be there for her. But in hindsight maybe I'll be grateful for her maturity and honesty.
Who knows... At this point I am still struggling to give up hope 😂

Try to ensure you frame it as incompatibility. Rejection is always hard to take and give but there are always worse ways to do it.

Just came over this video and I can relate somehow. Except for the part of having a crush on the other person as all my best friends are of the same gender. I used to have the best friendships ever back to secondary school and high school but due to some reasons like different classes and schools, we gradually drifted apart and it was so sad whenever I suddenly bumped into them and had some awkwardly boring convo. We dont talk much now like we used to before. Your story hit home to me. It reminded me of my first crush when I was in grade school. I had this crush on this guy who I thought I was out of his league and couldn't ask him because I faced rejection from time to time. Because I was so obsessed with him, I didn't realize other people were interested in me till they told me or what my friends said to me in the end. He and I were never friends, more like acquaintances, but I wanted to be friends with him.
Then, I met my best friend who helped me overcome that obsession with that guy, which I sorta developed feelings for my best friend, but I wasn't sure if he liked me back. Later, I told him I liked him for a while (knowing him for 4+ years), but he didn't like me back at that time. We continued as friends, both knowing what I felt for him, but things are getting back to where I left off. He's a fantastic guy who will find a good girl, which I will be happy for him, no matter how much it will hurt me.

At first i was like, wow this is a really good animation. The characters, the script, the voice over, everything was good. But near the end i realize how the story relate on me so much. I feel like this is something i need to put in my mind about all the friendship i had during my school days. Even though me and my friends are in different parts of the world now, it doesn't mean we're not friends anymore. We had all the good time, the memories, the experience we can reminisce for our whole entire life. No matter how rocky the start, no matter how difficult our problems were, we will always have something good to remember. That's what matter the most.
After 9 years I finally realized how hard this relates to me now, genuinely makes me sad on how hard this hits for me.

After we left and went to different universities and stuff we talked less and less, then not at all. I still had others I kept in touch with, but this stuff does happen. I find this very relatable. I also had a crush who played with mostly girls so when he sat behind me we started talking and from then called each other every day. We were quite close but he had a girlfriend, he never seemed to like her though I almost was able to move on at one point. My feelings were really strong so they never completely faded away. 4 months after that we hung out together and watch a movie, he told me that he was moving to another place with his family. We still remained close friends since he never really found a closer friend that treated him better.

Well, it has nothing to do with boyfriend/girlfriend stuff. But early on in my schooling I had a really close friend, and he moved away, promising he would keep in touch. He didn't, but there was always that thing in my head that said "You'll see him again." And, it turns out I did. After four years, I went to high school, to see my my best friend from four years ago again. I had no clue how to react, but we just were friends again. It was like nothing ever happened. Except I had this overwhelming sense of abandonment and it sort grew more and more, but like I said, we were reunited. Although, I've never felt too close to him, it's like a friendship with a lot of inside jokes, but all the inside jokes were already stale by the time we got to see each other again. Anyway, it's been almost two years now, and for some reason only a month ago I talked to him about how him leaving affected me. I didn't know what to expect, and after telling him all this sort of sad stuff he looked at me and said, "Are you kidding man! You were like a god to me," (his actual words, I'm not trying to embellish), "I talked to everyone about you and how I had this amazing friend back home." That just impacted me so much, and any random people reading this won't know the backstory, but seriously, it was amazing to hear that I hadn't just been forgotten by someone I also thought so highly of.

DUDE, everything in this story happened to me. I was in fifth grade, and this new girl moved into my school and she was in my class. She travelled around a lot because her father was in the military. At first we never talked to each other, but then my teacher gave us a new seating chart and we were put next to each other. We talked to each other and slowly we became friends. That was when I developed a crush on her. We would always tell each other our personal thoughts and secrets, and I felt like that maybe I had a chance. A couple months later, I asked her out and she rejected me, but said we can still be friends. I didn’t take the rejection to well, but she stood true to her word and we stayed friends. In fact, our friendship grew better, but so did my crush. Then, COVID came and only online school was available. We had each other’s numbers and emails. We made a plan to hang out when school goes back to normal. But then, she told me she was moving to another school in LA. I was super sad, but for some reason
I went after her. We still kept in touch, but we started talking to each other less, and eventually our friendship drifted apart, and so did my crush on her.

Don't worry. High School friends don't normally end up lifelong. I've been out of high school for 12 years now. I speak to no one I went to high school with. It's better that way. You grow beyond the walls of the people you went to school with and you become an adult and have adult friends. Some I went to college with, but many I didn't.
