My father used to work in Mumbai but the rest of our family were staying in Odisha. So once or twice in a year we used to go and spend our vacation with my father. I remember visiting a clinic for some reason and upon knowing that we're from Odisha, the doctor showed a really worried face and asked my mother whether I'm getting proper education or not. I was literally so confused as to why this was the first thought that came to his mind upon hearing Odisha. It's not that the whole state is full of poverty and lack of education. I mean I was studying in DPS. That day I realised how others view my state. On my way back my mother told how Odisha gets media coverage only when a cyclone hits it or when they have to show the poverty in our state.

Isn't it true? See small states like Telangana and Haryana. See the kind of massive IT, Pharma, Textile and Manufacuring investments these states are attracting even though these are land locked states. Odisha even with coastal line and sea ports..still is lagging behind in development. You people have to vote political parties who bring massive private investments to your states

It literally conducted Asian athletic championships, International Hockey and Cricket tournaments. While I do agree Odisha does lack in a lot, but so do other states. Anyways, Odisha's 'lacking' does not mean the media is right to not show the parts where it has improved.

Our state doesn't have a show off culture like many other states, that's why our Noble or good deeds go unrecognized.
But as a native who has also lived in many metropolitan cities, I can assure you Odisha is a whole deal.
It's green and developing. It's wild yet prosperous. It's one of the safest states for women. People are naggy yet so open minded. Our heritage, food, clothes, language, ways of living, they are all what you will find no where else. The people of the rural will give you utmost sense of community and belongingness. It's a very non-violent state. Our government is also very loved.
The rich and the poor, everyone has a voice here.
And above all, someone told me I come from "bhukhe nango ka state" I would like to remind that even after facing a cyclone, drought, flood and earthquake every year, here we are standing tall. We took no helps from anyone, rather always helped out when needed. The post colonial India was also heavily relied on Odisha to provide food and shelter to refugees.
I am a proud Odia and no odia/non-odia can make me say otherwise.

Very authentic analysis of the situation. But I want to bring to your notice, Odisha as whole doesnt get support from Central govt. Odisha was run by Congress govt. for 60 years and whole KBK situation was at top. Odisha contributes 28% in mining but the state gets low royalty from Centre. Even during the current cyclone Yaas, Odisha Govt. said they dont need funds as they can manage on their own. The centre should use the fund for pandemic crisis. Definitely Odia people are lethargic and people are equally active in politics but the only thing we dont do unnecessary hype unlike our neighbours. Yes we definitely need to improve our scale in decreasing poverty and hunger. We silently contribute in lot of sectors but we dont get our deserving credit.

Do you expect poor people to buy oxymeters. The block head quarter hospital has a single Ambulance in last 25 years. There is no RTPCR test facility in entire kandhamal district, we need to go to Bhubaneswar. I will give you a long list of priorites which are ignore. Odisha gave oxygen to other state and CM everyone promoting CM's image. Do you know people in Odisha as well dying aswell due to lack of oxygen, see the news of berhampur MKCG hospital 2 weeks back. 90% of enginners leave odisha after graduation because there is no scope of job. This is because lack of awareness among the youth of Western odisha. Most of the youth of Western's odisha are burdened by family responsibilities at the earliest age so they didn't get that much of exploser to involve in politics, business and higher education. It not like that every youth do the same , i know some of them , they (Western odisha youts) trying to raise their voice against this inequality done by government, but the didn't get that much resources/ help from higher post holder people. I am from Bengal and i must say our state is nothing in front of odisha. It's only cheap minority appeasing politics in Bengal, always in a mode of blaming centre, free money to local clubs and cut culture but ruling party and not thinking anything economically. Hats off to people of odisha, better people, better place better everything.
