When AEW gets the ratings that WCW got in 96-97 then Tony Khan can say that.
They haven't even reached peak TNA ratings yet have they?
They haven’t touched prime tna numbers yet 🤣
The funny thing is that Tony does not have more money than Vince.....his dad does.
@@beauclark1650 that makes sense.

@@beauclark1650 Exactly, no point replying to idiots
@@DD-fs9xt he's going to find out real quick what happens if the WWE decides to go scorched earth with their talent and just offer so much money that aew just can't compete. All it takes is for them to decide to reverse course and start over paying talent to stay like they did when AEW first started.
@@patrickfuller1806 Aint gonna happen, Mark
Tony Khan/AEW are "fighting back"? They've been squaring themselves up to WWE from day one. And now that WWE is throwing more obvious jabs at them (light jabs, but I digress), suddenly AEW needs to defend themselves like they're being bullied?! Come on now.
AEW is the little brother who ran crying to mommy after the big brother finally smacked him back after weeks of provocation.
"squaring up" in which way? By making a wrestling show?
@@Jimunu basically the same thing Brian was doing here, equating counter programming as an act of war despite Tony and AEW fanboys shittalking WWE the past 2 years. So yes AEW was the little brother constantly picking at and insulting WWE until WWE lightly smacked them upside the head. Then the little brother crys foul.
@@joshfrye542 Shittalking how?
@@Jimunu Just look at Tiny's Twitter game, the obviously paid for wrestling "journalists", the seemingly mandatory WWE bad snide shot every former WWE guy gives on his 1st appearance, and the Elite's horrible attempt at references on their youtube show.

Tony Khan was getting all giddy on Twitter over the Ratings he claimed “It was a Big Win” beating SmackDown on FS1😂😂😂
Even though SmackDown drew a higher rating
They didn't even win. They're just doing their stupid demo thing again.
WWE won the demo by 1000 according to Brandon Thurston's ratings breakdown.
@@natebaxter9551 Because thats what the moron AEW cult does.....The get beat in the ratings and then they have to move the goalposts to claim a victory. Tony Khan instantly went to the well in the 18-49 demo during the head to head AEW won. Never mind that demos don't mean shit to anyone but advertisers and what commercials the networks show during that time.
On top of that the only reason SD was half an hour longer was because it's the last SD before Crown Jewel on Thursday and they wanted to hype up the PPV some more

At least Jim cornette is the voice of reason
Daddys money talks a big game for someone drawing a 0.44 rating
Just like Jim talks a big game for a guy whose promotion's biggest show in history drew 5000 people. Seriously I'm not even making that up... Smoky Mountain's biggest show in history had 5,000 people in attendance. I don't hate Jim or anything but for such a "Genius Booker", who knows what "real wrestling" is, you would think that he would have been able to draw more fans than that.
I said the same and damn these fans that are soft as dog shit just go into a tizzy, guess the truth can be painful, just an observation.
@@TheShadowBrigade he wasn’t trying to draw nationally though. He was drawing from what? Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia maybe Indiana. And he ran Smoky Mountain during the wrestling depression of the early 90’s. Comparing Smoky Mountain to AEW is like if you compared OVW to NXT again, one is small and local the other is national. Not at all a fair comparison. What you can compare is the wrestlers, the matches, the booking and the work and Jim would win in most examples there.
@@TheShadowBrigade Learn this word: context. Your post is missing it. You're welcome.
@@manuelper exactly. Apples and Oranges comparison
Lmao people keep saying Ted Turner spending ruined the company. Like Brian said the merger killed wcw. If Turner never merged he doesn't lose 80% of his networth, he would still have wcw on tv, no AEW, and his family would still own the Braves.
Put Dynamite on Monday and Rampage on during smackdown.
Russo always makes that point too, and it's too simplistic. The company was losing money and ratings like crazy. Therefore when Turner lost his influence it had to go. If it had been profitable and the ratings had been great, there's no way the new people in charge would have got rid of it. So it's the poor running of the business AND the merger that killed WCW.
@@XhoowieX I know its an old comment but they didn't want wrestling on their television. Thats been well established by many sources ted wanted wrestling because he felt like he owed wrestling.
@@heckhound48 fair enough, but that may have been different if it was making money - it's easy to say you don't want wrestling for other reasons when there's no benefit to keeping it anyway. And if not, I bet another station would have picked up a show that was making money.
Tony Khan is like Spongebob in that one episode where he’s rich and just throws money at everyone

He’s a Tokyo dome type with an extreme hate of the WWE. Brian has defended a lot of the AEW goofery for a while.
When you have great talent transform a wrestling show to a wrestling promotion it’s really easy to convert. Especially when the alternative is goofy Japanese Meltzer wrestling, Impact and even more goofy WWE.
He literally admitted that during their review of All Out a couple months ago. It's nothing new, he just has a weird hate boner for Vince.

If I was a Fulham or Jaguars fan I'd be wondering why a guy who has a senior job at my team is wasting his time on these pathetic twitter back and forths about a business that earns he and his father nowhere near as much revenue or prestige as my team.
@TheJoeGreene Scott Parker the Fulham Coach last year said that Tony "wasn't helping" when he was tweeting something last season. This was at the same time the analysts on SKY Sports were calling him a "clown" because he was airing private business publicly on twitter.
If I were a Jaguars fan, I'd have to quit my oxycodone habit, first.
You overestimate Fulham's worth lmao
Too bad no competent coaches wanted to coach the Jaguars, I would love to hear a post game loss remark about actually winning the game because they had more yards on a certain playcall(muh demo) after one of Tony's twitter freakouts.
RIP Cottagers fans.
A great club/fanbase.
This is why money sucks - cos you can just buy things.
Mohammed Al Fayed had his issues, but he was a man and a leader!
Didn’t wcw only go out of business after Ted sold Everthing? If so then Tony’s comment makes no sense because it didn’t go out of business under Ted Turner. Tony Kahn is weirdo who needs to stay behind the scenes. He doesn’t have the social skills to talk to people in public.
Yes, Turner was bought out and then the TV execs cancelled WCW because they wanted to for awhile but Turner never let them.
Yeah, Ted was pushed out by AOL Time Warner as they never wanted anything to do with wrestling
He didn't sell they merged. I think Ted was VP after that, but quickly realized he had no real power. I think he stepped down or was forced out since he was only that title in name only. The other thing was he lost 80% (8 billiion) of his networth. They shut it down. Eric has said due to that merger when thunder got dropped on his lap other departments shifted debts to wcw (other which wcw was labeled.). If I remember WCW was still their top rated program.

Eric Bischoff was honest, AEW won't run head to head, so he should shut up

Tony is definitely a muppet if you ask Fullham fans
That’s good one, but I think Fulham fans are happy that their team in playing well & winning games without Tony Khan help.
Just like Fulham gets relegated every other season to the second tier. AEW might slowly become the 2nd tier show.
@@jessejames9149 They're still the second tier show, but with the way things are going now they might wind up in the same purgatory as Impact with never growing more than what they are now and only shrinking over time
*WHEN* did WWE brag about "demos"???
One minute: AEW are defending themselves.
The next: AEW are bringing the fight to WWE.
They never have because of several reasons, but I'm sure the main one is, WWE isn't trying to market themselves to one demo and has been marketed as family friendly since 2008 and have a solidified position in pop culture/TV.
AEW has to find something to make itself feel better about itself, so, this is what we get, bragging about demographics like some amateur social media influencer who thinks max views are more important than retention rate, viewing lengths, and the metrics that actually matter.
exactly. the demo only started mattering the times NXT beat AEW in overall ratings.
The only people who really need to care about demos are the people buying and selling advertising. But since Tony claims he doesn't need the ad revenue it's all about winning a popularity contest, don't know how the network feels about that though.
They used to say they had higher demos than Monday Night Football back during those "did you know stats" they would show on RAW, then people laughed and told them that MNF gets 5x the viewers RAW gets. So basically the overall viewership is still what matters most.
I keep hearing Brian say "he's fighting back" but against what is my question? Cause to my knowledge aew has been taking shots at wwe from the jump and to my knowledge aew acknowledges wwe far more than wwe acknowledges them so how exactly has aew become the victim here?

Brian is such a huge mark for AEW now. Lmfao Eric had at the time current main eventers that came over from the wwf and a fresh exciting storyline (NWO). Tony brought in over the hill wrestlers and retirees and scattered storylines that are neither exciting nor make any sense.

Also, CM Punk in his FIRST MATCH in the rebranded ECW back in the day had people chanting "CM PUNK" so stop acting like he's just an "EX-WWE guy." Moxley isn't old. AEW has stars that can still go, the fans still care about, and most of the ex-wwe guys are either still young (like andrade or PAC) or in commentary/backstage roles like big show and mark henry. Before it was 18 - 49 , now its 18- 49 male audience, next is gonna be 18-49 single male audience
Demos are what matter, viewership only matters bc the higher it is the more ad agencies will pay for ads, they looks specifically at the 18-49 demo tho bc that is the age group they feel will spend the most money on there products

Comparing ratings now to the ratings of 25 years ago doesn't make any sense, the TV landscape is completely different and the way people consume media is completely different. Damn, Jim called it correct. Tony Khan’s quote regarding the 90’s and Jim’s analysis was absolutely correct.
Brian Last is just like all these other Khan defenders who try and act like Tony is the wronged party. Tony fucked up when he decided to surround himself with marks who had a hidden agenda. Cody & Jericho always wanted to go against WWE to prove something to themselves, they never wanted to just help create another wrestling company. Now Tony is getting gassed up by these anti WWE wrestlers and journalists, and he's starting to spiral out of control. If he's not careful we'll be seeing headlines about Dynamite getting record low ratings in the near future.
Who’s confirming these “remarks from inside wwe” anyways?
Nobody. It's nearly baseless rumours that people eat up.
WCW wouldnt have been around whether Russo wrote bad shows or not, cause Turner execs were talking about selling the company before Russo even got there. The moment Ted Turner was no longer in a high position in the company, that’s when they were in talks of selling, no one else at the network wanted wrestling. I don’t know why Jim keeps blaming Russo when Bischoff already confirmed this. This man lets his hate for someone get in the way of facts sometimes.

How can AEW fans be so sure that Tony won't turn into a more possessive and deluded version of Vince in 20 years time. Confidence in your product is one thing but I have no doubt that he'll end up trusting himself more than he will his talent in coming years

Sounds like WWE fans with the trash Vince McMahon has been putting on TV.
These past few months Brian Last is acting like he’s a different person. It’s really bizarre.
If Khan was as smart as he thinks he is Cornette would be his head booker. Turner had a soft spot for "wrasslin". He was smart enough to "Dance with who brung ya." Wrestling was a cornerstone of early TBS days.
Cornette isn’t built for that. His final run as booker was terrible. Let’s stop kidding ourselves
Cornette would put AEW out of business in less than a year cmon now lmao. The niche audience isn't those "Hardcore indy loving" fans that Cornette likes to shit all over anymore, it's those 30-40k people left who wanna watch that old school drawn out and tired 70s-80s style of wrestling that Cornette loves. Cornette as head Booker of a wrestling show would be lucky to get 50k viewers a week. I like Corny and agree with some of his opinions on modern day wrestling, but his booking ideas are is detrimentally old school, there's a reason he never lasts with major companies or even small ones, he can't adapt.
Brian has gone full AEW mark and it's sad. Maybe it's a work or maybe it's how he feels but damn it's lame. He repeated Tony was defending himself. I want to know what he means by that. If WWE had said anything let alone VKM it would have spread like wild fire. So I'm calling BS on the he is defending himself statement..We here Tony, Cody, The old Bucks, Y2J the list goes on of AEW jabbing WWE so how come this he is defending himself come holds no water of a recent on past months attack on Tony that Brian is talking about. This dude went Uncle Dave on this vid and it's fucking weak. And dollars to donuts he won't have proof or a respectable defense of what he said.
I said the same thing under a different video. He's always thought the little shots from AEW people at WWE were funny in the past...but now "Tony is defending himself"? Give me a fucking break. I've said it before....I don't care if he hates WWE to his very core and loves AEW....it's how everything is framed so dishonestly.....very similar to Uncle Dave.
I'm seeing that now...like its ok to like what you like but to go the route he went was lame...to state this dude was defending himself you might as well bend over for Tony now. No. Vince's father and his grandfather were both successful promoters and he even got the company from his dad.
Vince bought the WWF from his dad, at the time it was a only regional territory. Through his business decisions it grew into a national and world wide territory. Vince Sr. didn’t give Vince Jr. the company out of nepotism. He had to buy it from him, then grow the company into what it is today. It’s common knowledge that Shad Kahn gave Tony his inheritance money to start AEW. Tony Kahn didn’t have to really accomplish anything on his own. He bought everything AEW has using what’s basically his allowance money.
@@pillboss1987 if Vince wasn't his dads son he wouldn't have even gotten his shot. So it was 100% nepotism. Vince had it easy compared to other promoters. He definitely still had to work and earn it but no where as hard as other promoters
@@bobwatson1162 smarter? No. Vince in the 80s simply changed wrestling into sports entertainment and sports entertainment to me is a totally different business than wrestling. A wrestling company can't compete with a sports entertainment company that's geared towards kids

I seriously can't stomach Brian Last any more. He is a wanna be Dave Meltzer which isn't saying much
It’s fine if that’s how Brian wants to be on his own show, but man it’s becoming the Brian Last experience ft. Jim Cornette and it’s becoming harder to listen to. I miss the original setup.

Well in this particularly video...you can see why it wouldn't be a bad idea to get another co-host for everything related to the WWE & AEW. Scary thing is I remember being 12 years old and preferring the New Generation Era to the Attitude Era. So while i always watched and enjoyed WWF at the time, I always held the 92-96 time period very special in my heart.
Totally agree. You and i are probably about the same age.

I am right there with you guys. I was at that same age. I can remember more from new gen. To much going on in the attitude. Liked Austin, but that was about it.
Someone I trust on the matter told me that the New Generation is low-key everything I'd look for in pro wrestling and is slept on because of WCW taking the lead in the ratings. "The people were were still about it were ABOUT IT, man!"
Me, it was 92-97. Because it was actually more fun to watch, and they had great wrestling...Then shit-stain came in and fucked shit up like the greasy gumba he is...
Tony Khan is making Waves with AEW and his Most Recent Acquisitions (Bryan Danielson) etc have been Excellent gets but they have to STOP all the Snide Remarks and just Focus on Putting forth a Great Product … 🙏🏿
THIS. Focus on improving your product instead of taking a shot at WWE every chance you get
Learn how the shift key works.
THAT is one thing I think everyone will agree is a huge mistake. Make your product the best it can be, make your money, and build your business. It's going to be YEARS before they build a reputation, even if they start.

Only ij 2020's or AEW that DEMO matters. in the WCW and WWF era what matter is Ratings or Viewership.
Smackdown got 1 Billion because of their ratings/viewership and not because of their demo.
The problem is that WWE isn’t as creative nor innovative as they were when they went against Ted Turner. Not only do they not have stars (Besides Roman and Brock), but they also have an owner who’s creatively bankrupt
@TheJoeGreene That’s because WWE is practically a household name with an established legacy. At this point they are just living off reputation alone.
It doesn’t help that WWE is trying to be as PG as possible without upsetting anyone
Ted Turner had only one major problem that was shareholders not wanting to continue it is not the fact that he didn't know wrestling
brian’s opinions on tony khan changed drastically since this era 😂
The competition argument is silly to me too. We had better wrestling from ROH and NJPW before AEW came into existence.
I agree with Jim about the Attitude Era. Most people didn't have internet or smart phones. At most people had dialup. Not many people read dirt sheets. We really thought NWO was taking over WCW via WWF.
In retrospect if NWA had bigger stars the angle in WWF would have worked better.
Steve Austin and The Rock were more mainstream than any kind of promotion can do for wrestlers today. I can only imagine how much bigger those stars would be during that era with today's promoting.
@TheJoeGreene that doesn't mean the internet back then was as we know it now.
You either forgot the horrors of dial up and landlines, the fact that social media didn't exist and that the promotions weren't using the internet like that or you're too young to actually know
@TheJoeGreene do you remember that internet “connection”?? Straight dial up until the cable companies started offering DSL (that needed a phone line still). It took 10 minutes to load a page.

How can Brian say wwe has been “messing” with aew, when aew decided to air their tv on Wednesdays when nxt was on the network on Wednesdays first????
Brian Last the AEW lover is on glue. Tony is just being a fool, NOT defending himself. Nobody ever says anything about AEW but all AEW, their gymnasts and fans do is bring up WWE all day every day. He can brag but Vince is a self made billionaire. Tony was given the funds by his daddy.
Vince isn't self made either. The difference between Vince and Khan was Vince arranged to repay his father and his father's business partners for their shares. Whether he did or not, I can't remember.
Brian Last is turning into another anti-wwe AEW Mark.

I'm guilty of giving people more chances than they deserve but when I'm done, I'm done.
But when you're fun, you're funny
If Ted Turner got the ratings that Tony Khan gets, WCW would’ve been off TNT a lot sooner than it was.
Weird to hear Brian being so supportive of Tony Khan here - all the quotes basically came across as a egotistical, over-sensitive muppet who will take any praise as confirmation they are right, and ignore any criticism. It doesn't particularly matter in wrestling, it has always been an industry about spin, but it's the fact he does the same in regards to Fulham that concerns me - how long will the family continue to accept massive losses each season? They will likely be battered by the FFP rules if they don't get promoted this season
Tony is not fighting back he's fighting air ,Tony is a grown boy

With all the talk AEW does to WWE is just a promo for WWE because they talk about them than the latter does back.
FREE ADVERTISING.
And on a week they're not on their regular channel.. while also sharing the channel it'll be on... might as well have gone to people's houses and switched their TVs to Smackdown for them!!
While I do agree with Brian on the notion that it is good for Tony Kahn to occasionally talk shit and all, part of the problem is that he's going back and forth between "Yeah, that's right! FUCK Vince McMahon" and "Oh noes, w-we just want evewyone to have fun~". Like dude, pick one: either you're in it or you're not.
Just like the more vocal fans on the Internet. It's all about "having fun" and "competition is great....variety is great" but then they also want to take shots at WWE constantly ("e-drones" and the like)....however, say something negative about AEW and they react like children having a temper tantrum in a toy store.
I like Brian but what did WWE, Vince and Hunter do to Brian in order to make him hate them this much? He can support or like whatever he wants to but he has the weirdest hate ever for WWE. At this point, he's no different than AEW fans on twitter which is fine but then don't act like you're unbiased towards these companies.
He's exactly like AEW fans on Twitter...and Meltzer. If I wanted that I'd subscribe to The Observer and frequent their forums.
The AEW fans, die hard fans they jump on whatever he says cause they feel, they have to back him.
Also he is not fighting back from the WWE, AEW having taken more shots at WWE both on their show and all over social media.
Tony Khan has a lot of money, a pity he does not use any to make a training facility for his Wrestlers, they botch every week and having all different styles creates a style clash create a way you want your talent to wrestle.
I have to disagree with Jim, there are a lot of stars on WWE, they may not be on the same level as Austin, Rock and Taker but they are draws non the less.
Smackdown has beaten Dynamite when it was on Fridays and Rampage is but an afterthought no matter what match ups they put on it does not draw 1mil viewers since punk debut.
Bryan needs to calm down now, that momentum AEW has is gone, Bryan is starting to sound like he had Lawyers at his door at one point about previous comments.
Ted Turner was a self made billionaire and a true businessman and a true wrestling fan, Khan is a mark using daddy's money, that's the difference. Ted didn't micro manage WCW, whereas Tony Khan is booking is horrendous, big stars like punk or not.
I almost spit my drink out when I saw the Tony Kahn picture
Of corse Last likes it.
