    My great grandparents who were young children around that time are still alive and tell how happy things were, they still tell me the days of our people back then so do my grandparents. While this documentary talk down on us. I don’t care I’m still happy and proud of who I am and who my ancestors are my family is from a Purepecha community named Cheran.

      Hi Rob, we completely agree with your grandparents and cannot emphasize enough that we do not share the rather derogatory terms that may have been used in this documentary as they are, unfortunately, very typical of that era. We are merely sharing the movie to show the rich culture and beautiful geography of your beautiful people and commend you for rightfully being proud of your heritage 👍❤👍!!!

      @@Canada150Archive Thank you this means to so much and honestly I never expected a Canadian archive to document a tribe in Mexico back so long ago, but glad it is shared on this platform at least we have something that people can look at not much information about us but I’m still glad that you shared this to thr world much appreciation from the Purepecha people.

      @rob1014 did all digging about and studying about our ppl, yet all through out the entire video is tarascan this and tarascan that. Like bruh could have at least not call em by the derogatory name given to them. Pretty sure that's like the hard R to my brother of afro decent. The fact alone that we are considered to be an Isolate culture and civilization within Mexico & mesoamerica merits a little more than the disrespect. So I felt you was a little tight to bring it up. Good looking out

    I'm part of the purépecha people born in turicuaro. I'm not so crazy about how "primitive " the narrator is making us appear as well as how he down talks us. But not much videos on my people so I do appreciate.

      We need more videos about us at least to the English folk, but even In Spanish there isn’t much information about us shared to everyone.

    Tarascans was a name given by the Spanish. We are actually called Purepecha.

      There is debate on where both terms came from. However, ppl did used the term Tarascan as derogatory in Uruapan when I was growing up

    Lol, this is so racist but it was made in 1950. Still, they don't even use a pirekua and instead use the "mexican" track used in every movie/cartoon/commercial at the time.

    What is the dance at 1:30?

    • @lux_satani
      @lux_satani Před 2 lety +4

      I believe it's la Danza de los Viejitos. Dance of old people. Traditional dance for offerings for the gods. We also wear a mask mocking the old Hispanics when they were getting off their ships.

      The name of the holiday falls in during the school year for children and young adults. They celebrate the sun for its day. The moon for the night and the third one besets me cuz it's been a minute. I'm damn near 40. 😂 I still got a picture of my brother painted as what Hollywood considers now days as an actor being black faced. 😂
