  • These are some old film clips showing the John Marshall High School Corps of Cadets, the local Richmond Howitzers (The Richmond Blues and the Richmond Grays), along with some actual living Confederate Veterans during a parade down Monument Avenue in Richmond in 1918 during World War I. The parade ended at the Virginia State Capitol grounds.

Half the high school kids had infantry rifles and there were no school shootings.

Bob Flendorg Those days were great, but they are gone forever. Today's kids should not be allowed to handle firearms.

I graduated high school in 1995 and guns and knives were an everyday occurrence in the school parking lot and amazingly everyone lived! 👍

How do you know for sure? Guns and anyone just doesn't add up all the time, sometimes kids get in the way of flying bullets thrown by full adults. Not an anti gun guy, but say gun owners should keep a better watch on their guns.

In my opinion that was a much better time to have lived in. I think the times that we are living in now, have really changed for the Worse !

@56bluegold: Whether or not those times were "better" would largely depend on who you were/are.

What those old Civil War veterans must've thought seeing trucks, tanks and artillery pieces being pulled by truck. Probably, "Hmm .. if we had had those things.......we would have defeated the Yankees".

That doesn't look like Monument Ave. I live on Monument. That may be Broad St. Monument narrows, heading eastward, to Franklin St. which is only two lanes of traffic.
