Classic Game Room reviews BOMBERMAN for the PC-Engine from 1990!! Bomberman from Hudson Soft is an updated version of the classic Bomberman for the NEC PC Engine and Turbografx-16.
CGR Bomberman review has Bomberman PC-Engine video review footage of this remarkable arcade style videogame from 1990 for the Japanese PC-Engine (also available on TG-16). Bomberman has many sequels and is on many game systems including Nintendo Wii, Famicom and NES. BOMBERMAN!

I really liked this review, mainly because it reminds me of the old CGR from 2011- 2012 and that was when I watched this show religiously.

Bomberman was like the Smash Bros before Smash Bros was even a thing, it was the game you'd beg your parents to get a multi-tap for so that you could play with your mates after a long day of school and just have a literal blast blasting each other and seeing who can rack up the most wins in battle mode!
Single player mode isn't exactly where the game shines, but when it does shine, hoo boy does it ever! This particular version was the one that laid the foundation for pretty much the whole rest of the series, yeah the NES game did get the ball rolling but this one is where the series just clicked, and the 2nd NES Bomberman game has more in common with this one than the first NES game...
All that said though, while this version is still really good, it's been rendered obsolete by the far superior Bomberman '93 also on the TurboGrafx-16, and if you don't mind going Japan-only there was also Bomberman '94 which was even better, both of which have a killer soundtrack and some beautiful graphics too!
You can get a watered-down version of BM'94 on the Genesis under the name Mega Bomberman, it's pretty much the same game, only with worse graphics and music... Still worth it if you don't have a PC engine and don't want to emulate it (which you totally should)
But all that is just the PC engine games, there are really great Bomberman games on most game systems, and well, Bomberman is the kind of game that you really need to have at least one good version of in each of your systems so that you'll never go without it! Some of the best versions include all of the Super Bomberman games on Super Nintendo, particularly Super Bomberman 4 (Japan-Only) which is kinda like a sequel to Bomberman '94, The N64 games are really great, I like Bomberman Hero a lot because it took the concept of Bomberman and turned it into one of the best action games on the N64, and then there's Saturn Bomberman, which might be the definitive classic Bomberman game (but I still think the soundtracks to the PCE and N64 games are better)
I just love Bomberman, in my opinion it's the definitive top-down maze game, it easily beats Pacman, Dig Dug and even my beloved Cratermaze, Bomberman is just the best!
i know this game is on every system it seems, and some of those versions might be better, but for some reason i think the pc-engine one might be my fav. Sucked to have to buy a multi tap..but it feels so right on the system like most of hudson's games...
racerxgundam I don't know which one is my fav, I'm torn between BM'94 on the PC engine and Super Bomberman 4 on the Super Nintendo, but the N64 games are totally worth playing because they're really different from the rest of the franchise, and I mean it in a good way!
Dunno i all ways prefer the music for the genesis version of 94.Music for the pce version is so muted but that version does have the better graphics.

Michirin9801 why did you need a multi tap why couldn't nintendo makw the system have 4 ports on it to begin with (same with the ps2) also the xbox 360 origonal version can only use 3 wired controllers at a time
I played soooo much of Bomberman 3 on the SNES with a couple of friends! So good memories!

I love this game!! I got my TurboGrafx-16 on clearance at ToysR"us for $30 with a pack in (Keith Courage, I think) I bought BOMBERMAN with it too because it was the only other game they had! I never played a BOMBERMAN game before then but I'm glad I picked it up, I played it all the time! The only reason I even got rid of my TurboGrafx was I couldn't find any more games to pay anywhere! (use game stores weren't a thing back then, let alone eBay)

It's my first time hearing 'bomberman' in English pronunciation. It is obviously a correct sound but bizarre at the same time to me. In Korea we say 'Bom-Ber-Man'. lol
If you enjoyed bomberman that much mark.Then i highly suggest importing,bomberman 93&94 for the pce both can be had at dirt cheap prices.Also couple with a multitap for vs makes the game fun playing against friends.
The second best Bomberman, being the Saturn one the bestest!

This is the version that was ported to MS-DOS under the Dyna Blaster name. Too bad the music was somewhat butchered, but other than that, it's the same version. Extremely popular in Poland and alike.
One word: CLASSIC
Here in Hungary it was called DynaBomber and it didnt have 2 player multiplayer, only versus.
Such a classic, not just on the PC Engine of course, always a great game to go back to and always a great party game as well. I used to play a lot of the XBox version with 4 players, some victims still aren't talking to me :D

Bomberman always reminds me of Tetris, since both have a ton of versions that at the core are more or less identical, and just like Tetris I'm good with just two to three good versions.

Wait a minute...that's Dynablaster, right? One of my fave games on the Amiga and Gameboy. Odd how they named in differently for the PC Engine.

You're european, aren't ya? Well, all games in this series are called Bomberman, but when the game was coming to Europe, because of some terrorist attacks that happened at the time, they renamed the game series Dynablasters on there.
Actually, before Dynablasters was the name of choice, they originally renamed the series to be called Eric and the Floaters, and some versions even have that name. That was only with the first Bomberman/Dynablasters, though.

PC Engine? So this is the Turbo Grafx 16 version.I was thinking of getting it on my Wii U (well Wii shop). But I just didn't know if it was really good. I'd like to have a classic Bomberman game stored on a system. Actually I think that was a newer version. But anyway if Mark wants a good single player version he should play the Sega Saturn one.

You can get TG16/PC Engine games on PSN as well! I got Bomberman '94(Mega Bomberman on the Sega Genesis, but with better music and five player mode) and Bonk's Adventure. I heard Sony is slowly taking PS3 downloads down for some reason though =o/
