The thing i love about Martinez is she is one of few players who can do anything with that ball, her fittness was good, but i think she could of been pushed more, but with that being said, amazing to watch and very clever player.thats what i liked about the 90s WTA,lots of different styles.
I think this is the most exciting of their many encounters. Both fresh off a GS win, both full of confidence and playing such attacking tennis, using every dimension of the court.
Conchita was always one of my favourite players to watch. Although she won this match, she still did way too much defending for no reason. I could never understand why she wouldn't step up and be aggressive most of her career. Her ball control was the very best and she moved very well. But at times it seems she was more interested in discovering just how much spin she could put on the ball rather than actually constructing a point. Again I'm sorry to be so critical of her, but it's frustrating to watch at times as a big fan of hers. This match really exposed their inability to end points (desire to end points on Conchita's part... ASV always wanted her opponents to lose the match rather than winning the match herself). Final point... the only Grand Slam Conchita won was one where she was forced to be aggressive (grass)... that says everything in my opinion.
I guess Conchita just had clay court instincts to mostly defend ingrained in her during her youth and it was difficult to change that, except on grass which forced her to be more aggressive. ASV to some extent could also ramp up the aggression on her backhand but her forehand just wasn't so effective
Conchita really played well here. Arantxa usually owned her but this was definitely one of Conchita's sweetest wins. Interesting that they faced again next week with Arantxa winning in straight sets, losing to Graf and met Graf again in the next tournament and won.
@@conchitamartinezpartidosde3795 coz Conchita had a great match win against Arantxa and being a Conchita fan, I alys wanted her as victorious against Arantxa.....Conchita had a big forehand, big backhand, nice footwork, great attack...I consider her more talente than ASV and she had more tournament win than her....wanted her to win more slams...
Dont get why Conchita stopped using the flat backhand during 95/96 to weaker c.100%slice: since then you can see that when she tried to come back to flat it always was a moonball...

Gracias por subir estos vídeos 👏💕
Gracias a vosotros por verlos y disfrutarlos.
Before this match, arantxa won french open & conchita won wimbledon... then after this match arantxa won us open... i think 1994 was spain's year
Absolutely!
They also won the Federation Cup...it was a Spanish year...
Sergei Bruguera also won his second French Open in 1994, beating Alberto Berasategui. It was a huge year for Spanish tennis
Much much much expected match to watch....
Why?
