This played as I was finally at the gates of Rome (playing as the Byzantines). I had the Emperor do the first charge against the pope then my spearmen followed. the fight was bloody but in the end Rome was taken. You don't know how much did this track add up to the suspense and tension. Roma Invicta
@@levinb1 No yes it fits the Italian faction, because South Italy was annexed by the spanish empire in their effort to keep fighting and standing for their hegemonic power in Europe, So actually much italian and Spanish culture is mixed, specifically in the regions of the crown of Aragon (Spain) we have a super similar culture to the southern Neapolitan Italians. Italy ans Spain were once One during the renaissance period in Europe. Don't you see that the demo of the game total war depicts, the Holy Roman Empire ( army which was composed predominantly by Italians many times) And Spain, together against their nemesis: France. A very sad event because in my opinion should have been crusading against ottomans to free europe from Islamic doctrine and give freedom to those that did not believe in Islam.
By far the best m2tw song, imo. Beautiful, perfectly fitting when your engaging precariously with jinetes not wanting to close in yet. It matching the intensity of that style of combat perfectly, and perfect because its a mobilize song, not a combat song. The intensity of a combat song really compliments the nations you'll play as when you hear this. Byzantines, Spain and Portugal, even Venice with mounted fast moving skirmishers. Much more intense than archer exchanges, and this song fits.
@@ahmeteminerdogan9266 Do you mean the CD that got released? I think the sheer amount of music made for the game wouldn’t fit so selections had to be made to fit the format
@@skelo9033 James Vincent was also a composer for M2TW, I have no idea who wrote what or if that's really him, but it seems to be so I'm willing to believe it.

Medieval 2 has made me despise the Byzantines. Roman pretenders. WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY LEGIONS!? HORSE ARCHERS? MERCENARIES? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Dover just get Byzantine infantry, Byzantine cavalry and trezibond archers. Also dismounted Byzantine lancers and mounted can upgrade their armour all the way to kataphract which makes them look extra badass
@@alexanderthegreat1356 Not only that, lancers with upgraded armor can go toe to toe with pretty much feudal knights, chivalric knights, armored swordsmen, and win with few losses i noticed that when i was testing units vs units, you can also add one experience point but it would cost a lot more money how ever you get one extra damage which makes them good holders against nobles or English, so the cavalry can flank(do it fast or they die). A good thing about it its that they armour and sword upgrades depending on version of game only costs like 700 or something, so its a good deal.
I remember this song distinctly due to it playing at a major battle in my HRE campaign. Venice had been run down to their last European settlement at zagreb, and I met their largest army in battle in the hills near Zagreb,it was my favorite battle I ever fought.
When this plays a lot of people are about to be really exhausted soon climbing the hills. And then the skirmisher lines going back and forth finally connect and the whole thing becomes a free for all where the ones who have high ground and/or stamina will prevail. And nobody thinks about the poor saps that are near death pushing those heavy siege engines. They were out of breath by the time they climbed the mountain.
+Urdabestplaya Same. That was a very short war... only 4 battles, two field, two sieges. Short, but sweet. Venice on the other hand... those bastards survived for decades by running an hiding :P
Man, I really wish this were a combat theme and not a maneuver theme. Like others said, this does go really well if you start a battle off with skirmishers because it builds a lot of suspense, but once 1:52 hits all I can think of is melee. I think after that, the really dramatic parts of the song go much better with Dismounted Knights beating the hell out of each other. I remember the first time I heard this song, I was really new to the game and completely botched a battle, I was the Kaiser invading Italy. Fought the Battle at the start of a mountain and just got slaughtered. As all my units were routing the last group of men still intact were a unit of Pavise Crossbowmen and like 30 Dismounted Imperial Knights at the summit of a hill. This song played because everyone broke from combat and like 2:40 rolled around with that last pocket of men firing down the mountain into the Italians, and when the Italians caught up the game glitched and didn't switch to combat music, so I got to hear the last bit of the soundtrack as my Crossbowmen all died fighting.
"if our moorish foes had any sense, they would flee back to the desert that fathered them. For shame, they wouldnt fight a goatherd, let alone brave men at arms."

I can only say one thing: For me Total War means Jeff van Dyck's OST.
I know this is the Southern European faction battle theme in general, but imo it suits the Spanish or Portuguese better than the Italian factions :p
I'll take your word for that. Grazie! :)
It does make me think of a reconquista so Iberian factions are perfect. But, all of the Southern European/Mediterranean factions can fit well
