Star Trek has inspired generations with its vision of the future and had a tremendous influence over scientists and designers alike so the recent reboot of the movies was anxiously awaited and it did not disappoint.
In this video I explore a small part of this wonderful future by taking a look at three cities and how the designers behind the movies created the utopic cities of the 23rd century.

I really like how Star Trek cities preserve historical landmarks & old architecture. You see a lot of it in the older TV shows including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the city hall in Toronto, and a 20th century restaurant in New Orleans
I simply loved this video, makes me jealous for the types of cities and tech we have and how different the world in movies could be. It makes me feel bored of our reality XD
even the most exotic city may become boring for its inhabitants (after living there for a while), but consider that our reality has such diverse cities from singapore to milano, from new york to nairobi I don't think it can be boring
Fun tidbit : The London Eye then in Into Darkness is 259 years old.
It's pretty much a historic building by then lmao
Wow this channel is actually good.
A very well presented video. We need eco-cities of light on earth right now!
I love this presentation, wELL DONE !! This is why I enjoy the Star Trek Franchise. If I had a chance, I would have studied architecture.
I love how Star Trek cities where Columbus build thinking big.
Blade runner next?
next is part two of space opera in MCU - thor. but next next video might be a good idea to go for the new blade runner (the old one has been covered by too many people anyway)
It has always struck me that the depicted scale of the Starship Enterprise is all to buggery: to house all of the humans that it does, it must be immense, but whenever it is seen close to other built structures it suddenly seems much smaller.
I agree there should be a mixture of building design from past structures that should be preserved to efficient (and attractive) evolving designs. ;-)
Great video! I'd love you to do a follow up on either Gattaca, Demolition Man or The Fifth Element which looks at California in 2030's for the first two... And/or The Fifth Element which is Lower Brooklyn and Manhattan in 2254... Or Judge Dredd and Megacity One! 've been obsessed with these movies since they premiered back in the 90's yet we are far closer to Gattaca and Demolition Man times than the past and strangely MOST of the tech of both of these films has come to pass... From routine DNA testing for health and genetics/crime reasons, electric cars, space travel, wristwatch phones, video conferencing, just about all are now routine in 2024...
yes, agree. also in gattaca and demolition man the architecture of those futures made use of real buildings and it really feels more grounded in that regards. judge dredd was a bit all over the place, but the more recent one (from 2012) has some really really good concepts there - in regards to the story, of course
Wow this channel actually cool
Finally! What i have always been looking for!!! Thanks man, i made sure that i subscribed, looking forward for more..
thank you very much for your support
Hello there! I'm actually waiting for Asgard can you do it please
yesssss, it is coming! it's in the editing room
Bro this video is dope! Thanks for the analysis. I’m working on a project and this inspired me and helped me a lot...::)
Fascinating! Thanks for using your own elegant voice, rather than cold, impersonal AI.
i would never :). i know i have a bit of a weird accent and it might irritate some ears, but that's life, can't make everyone happy.
Star Trek future is the future I want in real life..we humans united as one under one flag..one government..not so many
The last city is fully inspired from Dubai , most of the building , metro stations ..........
It was filmed in Dubai and the pictures mixed together.
I love your videos, I hope you return soon! Please make the fith element!!!
Great Video.
Make one on movie Arrival.
And one on series Westworld. (if you do series!)
arrival doesn't feature any notable architecture for me to speak of. but in westworld there are some things (albeit not much), especially once we step out of the park.
Love ur special accent
A good architecture to comment could be too the hunger games one, I mean is not too futuristic, is more postmodernist but it seems a cool one.
yes, I have my eye on them for some time now. I am not looking for futuristic, I am looking for different architecture that supports the story.
Please make video about the winchester house and surrealist or paradox architecture. Your channel is really good, i'm actually thinking of starting this kind of channel but then i found you. Thx for creating this kind of video. Keep up the great work.
thank you! it's a very interesting topic. there's not much of it in sci-fi. however, the movie about the winchester house is not science fiction so it will not be featured on this channel. BUT, I strongly encourage you to start something like this, especially if you are interested in other genres
@@ArchitectureinSciFiFilm aw yeah i forgot it's not sci-fi. But it's still architecture tho, so probably halloween special?
anyway, keep up the good work. i'm waiting on your next video.
@@MrRoboticeyes good point. i'll keep that in mind. BTW, next video is coming soon (just finished recording)
I was looking for the brilliant new digital Matte painting they did for Scalos in Wink of an Eye. Its my desktop background!
One thing I've frequently wondered is how the historic landmarks we've seen in 24th century Earth survived?
I don't know of specific cities but it is often stated that Earth was devastated by a nuclear war. It would be a stretch that San Francisco, London, or Paris (the only cities that have been shown so far) would have been spared from nuclear attacks.
I have speculated that the landmarks we've seen (the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Shard, etc) are all faithful recreations. This isn't without precedence. After much of Warsaw's historic center was destroyed during WWII, it was recreated. The Catherine Palace at Tsarskoye Selo is an excellent example. So is the Amber Room. The same can be said for many other places. What tourists see today are usually either reconstructions or recreations.
My conclusion is that all the historic landmarks we've seen in Star Trek were lovingly recreated with whatever information that survived. Today high definition scans and 3D models created via photogrammetry can already accomplish much of the process to recreate something that has been lost. They are excellent augmentations to the older process' of photography, drawings, and blueprints.
When did the work begin is an interesting question. And which ones too? It is doubtful that every last historic landmark was recreated.
Even in a post-scarcity Earth, it would command great resources to make faithful, accurate recreations that didn't look cartoonish and could evoke the spirit like the originals did. (I'm one of those weirdos who gets stuck on a tangent that few if any ever pause to think about).
what an amazing point of view. yes, it is totally feasible. considering that replicators are a thing in star trek, reconstruction of entire cities is an option (probably less costly than the reconstruction of Warsaw)
Very interesting

thank you.
great video!!!
Good video. How about examining the recent Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay trailer? 48 minutes of sci-fi goodness.
thank you. Cyberpunk 2077 looks amazing. I will keep it mind for the next steps.
More videos please !!!
i hear you, it's coming... slowly but it is coming
@@ArchitectureinSciFiFilm thanks so much i love You and your work!!!
eu gosto muito tanto de ir ao futuro mais naves,edíficios,tecnologias,extraterrestres,robots,filmes-do-futuro
I like the content. it's a pity that you seem to lost motivation to make new vids. Idea for the channel is really great. I hope that your inspiration/motivation will come back in near future :)
hi, we haven't lost motivation nor the inspiration, but in our lives (for one professional and for the other personal) things took different turns and we can't seem to find our rhythm anymore (the latest video is in limbo for two years). hopefully we'll come back, maybe in a different format but the subject is not closed.
Finally!!!
I wonder what Kingston jamaica looks like in trek a futuristic city with vertical forest skyscrapers, modern garden homes on the hills, high speed futuristic trains and beaches for miles part of a sub united earth goverment like a west indies federation, union or commissariat.....
Architecture must follow rule #2: Represent your true form of culture. For Trek, Blind biggoted, self-worshipping, neglectful heralds of the Milky-Way galaxy.
okk.
eu estou pensar ANO 2050 ou 30.9000 qual é cidade do futuro.
cidade muito comprido e alto ou outros planetas mais cidades de todos os humanos e extraterrestes serão pacíficos juntos
you must also consider that in the future there is no capitalism.
These days the future is dictated, there is no uniqueness, all cities will look the same with this futurism idea. Architecture today is one of the ugliest of any era and its this one.
In real life, London's skyscrapers are as tall as San Francisco's.
