BURIED ALIVE! - Is it worth visiting Cotehele House and Gardens?

  • In May, we wondered around Cotehele House and Garden. Cotehele is owned by the National Trust and lies on the banks of the River Tamar in a rich, diverse and contrasting garden.
    The house is so old, you can almost feel the history seeping out of the walls. Adorned with many old pieces of furniture, the atmosphere is quiet, elegant and serene, transporting you to another time.
    Cotehele has attracted visitors for centuries. The Edgcumbe family realised its potential when it captivated Queen Charlotte and began to decorate to impress, draping every wall with expensive and impressive tapestries.
    We add our own historical anecdote found in one of my great grandad's books about Cornwall - a really creepy story! Was she really buried alive?
    Famous for growing thousands of flowers to incorporate into a fabulous Christmas Garland to decorate and enhance the Great Hall, we go in search for the plants that produce so many flowers.

    What a lovely house!! Really nice that you can get so 'up close and personal' in the rooms. Looks a lovely place to visit!!! The gardens were beautiful ... All those flowers for the garland!! Love the book idea.... CJ Samson is one of my favourites! Very fitting for the setting!! Thanks for showing us around guys!! 👍😁❤

      Hi Vicky, I was so nervous about popping the book down! I really don't know why! I think it was at the back of mind that someone would toss it to one side and say "What a load of trash!!" then I'd feel really embarrassed and just want to scarper - it's mad!! Sarah :)

    exactly what I needed to watch tonight, to escape reality. This is so much better than watching some movie with actors and overexaggerated. What a cute cat. And scary story. And nature. I just filmed in a park in Paris yesterday, wondering who came up with the idea to cut the trees squareshaped.This is so much more real.

    Another super video, I love Cotehele gardens but I do find the house very dark. However I love the stain glass windows and the History. As usual your information is second to none. Welcome back guys, I have missed you.

    Thank you for the walk around. I love these places and this is one I will remember to visit when we get back to Cornwall as we didn't see it when we were at Stoke Climsland a few year ago now. Warm greetings, Julie.

      @TravellingTorunn Před 5 lety

      @@CornishWalkingTrails No, they were mostly used as decoration, put on a shelf, and maybe also a few times used under china plates when making an extra lovely dinner table. I will look and see at home if they are among the items I inherited :)

    Missed your weekly travels last week! Cotehole looks fabulous. Although the floorboards remind me of my hallway...can't put a foot down without a creak! Daughter on her way to Cornwall for the weekend as I type this! Got to see the 1st episode of the last series of Poldark in London with Q & A afterwards last week. Sworn to secrecy though....not much longer to wait! Hope you managed to win the Cornwall launch tickets! I did try for them, but was unlucky :-(( x J x

      Hi Judy, Unfortunately we missed out on tickets to the premier but if the weather is good, we will try to get down to Redruth cinema and catch a glimpse of the stars before they go in, like Andrew did last year. I am not working this year so i will be able to have a look too! Sarah :)

    • @judybee
      @judybee Před 5 lety +1

      You may be lucky & get returns Sarah, esp as you live nearby in Cornwall...they sometimes contact you on the day! We were so lucky to get the tickets for the BFI showing...rang on the offchance & they had just had 2 returns sent back! So my husband grabbed them quick! Anyway, I look forward to seeing your footage of the event next Thursday. Think it's Eleanor at Redruth, it was Aidan in London...he was unrecognisable...covered in fuzz! x J x
