    I’m also a retro granny. I’ve watched this song being reacted to by younger people, who were absolutely shocked by it. How is it that young people have become more puritanical than us old ladies?

    • @ToddSauve
      @ToddSauve Před 2 lety +4

      It's because you've been there and done that, and the birds and bees are nothing new. For a 17 year old it is a different story! It is all still theoretical at that age and to see it played out almost in Technocolour is rather revelatory. Thus their bulging eyes and head turning double takes. Much as I disapprove of illicit teenage sex, this is a funny story with top notch musicianship!

    Hi Retro Grannies
    I have watched a few reactions to this song mostly by these young apparently open minded reactors that get shocked and embarrassed during the baseball/kissing part.
    I think your reaction shows us older people might actually be the open minded one's

    • @nanaking9560
      @nanaking9560 Před 2 lety +12

      I think you could be right, Steven. Always analyze before you criticize. The baseball scene was an amazing parable to what actually going on by the dash board lights. • @dragonmaster9360
    @dragonmaster9360 Před 2 lety +7

    I have noticed that a lot of the young people are confused by the title of this song. I'm an old geezer, no grandchildren yet, but MEATLOAF is my generation so here's the historical context for the younger people:
    THE TITLE EXPLAINED BY AN OLD GEEZER: Back in the day a young man would often install several red lights underneath the dash on the passenger side of the front seat. Upon arriving at Lover's Lane, the lights would be turned on to accent the young lady's legs etc. in a soft red glow. This was the reason some of the young ladies would wear a dress on a "hot date" (which was a date with more then dinner and a movie). The higher the skirt went, the closer they were to, well, Paradise. The red glow of the lights just added to the moment. This is the "dashboard light" referred to in the song's title. Again, for the younger people - bench seats were more common then the bucket seats we have in today's cars. No need go get into the back seat. Lucky us!

  • @billsoo306
    @billsoo306 Před 3 lety +7

    The video footage is from a live concert. The sound though, is from the album. This leads to a discrepancy since the album had Ellen Foley (Billie Young, the lawyer from Night Court) singing lead female vocals but due to a prior commitment (likely having to act in Night Court), she could not appear on the road tour. So Karl DeVito sang on the tour. Both are excellent singers and have similar styles so the match up is pretty good. The songs were written by Jim Steinman who also plays piano in the video.

    He has many movie appearances over the years. Including but not limited to "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Fight Club".

    Sadly, we lost Jim and Meat within a few months of each other 😇😇

    100% teenage mindset. We were all young and deeply in lust at one time. I had this album in a cassette player, and would listen to it every night through head phones to fall asleep to. There used to a medic back stage when Meat was on tour, he's put stupendous amounts of effort into his act, that he would nip off stage a time or two to have a quick blast of oxegen to keep him going. The next song in the sequence is "2 out of 3 ain't bad". And that one finished the story. It's love a love/hate thing with me, for Meatloaf. Sometime I've been blown away, and other times the same song did nothing, but have me praying for the end of time, to get it over with. It was a brilliant song writer "Jim Steinman" who penned the Bat out of hell album, and he found that only Meatloaf could keep up with the pace of the music, and deliver the lyrics with enough conviction the make them believable. It's fantastic to revisit these good old songs again.

    Meatloaf started out as a Theatrical Actor along with singer Ellen Foley,...who was NOT in the video, the woman was lip syncing and is also an actor...Meatloaf has been in movies such as Fight Club with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton 👍
    Just some fun facts 🙂👌

    I LOVED Meatloaf. I saw him in concert, and it was the best time I ever had! Not only was he a great musician, he was SO dramatic when he sang. The lady that sang with him was incredible!! What a team they made! What memories to cherish. :)

    The girl in the film clip is not the girl who backs Meatloaf on this album. She was a model used to film. The vocals are performed by American Vocalist Ellen Foley. As she was Recording her own album when the Video was shot, she was unavailable for filming. So they just got this girl in & dubbed Ellen's vocals.

    3 things:
    1. "Let me sleep on it" was actually him asking to complete the sexual act, her 'nonny' being the "It" that he wanted to sleep on/in/with. A 17yr-old boy stopped at that crucial moment will push him to a frenzy, which is why he kept pressing her, getting angry with the frustration he felt ('Give me this NOW; I'll tell you later whether maybe we have a future...').
    2. The doo-wops earlier in the song, they were actually "O0h! Stop-stop! Ooh! Stop-stop!"
    3. The story was a reminiscence of the night she exacted a vow to marry from the guy ("I remember every little thing,
    As if it happened only yesterday"). After telling the tale, the scene returns to the couple 15 years give or take later ("I'll never break my promise or forget my vow"; and "It was long ago and it was far away
    , And it was so much better that it is today").
