    Father John Misty pizza:
    Whiskey
    Cigarettes
    Crushing existential dread
    Misguided decisions from the past that haunt you forever

    This is probably my favourite clip of Josh, he seems genuinely happy here

    he seems to be a really interesting dude. and in contrast to a lot of (otherwise great) musicians he's able to eloquently talk about what he does/thinks

    Same here man. I really related to what he said about having no one listen to his music. I've made six homemade demo/albums in the past two to three years or so. Basically no one has heard them, yet there was this urge in me to create them. It's almost like it wasn't a matter of choice; it just had to get out of my system. lol having people listen to your music is always a plus though...

    Why does he look like if Dennis, Mac, and Charlie were one person? Not a criticism.

    Interesting to see how JT's honed the character since then; the self-satirizing over-emoting is just a rookie way to sneak some self-protection on the stage, like "Well if you think this sucks it's not as though I was really *trying*". He knows the character he's playing much better these days and he's more still/ solid/ in control onstage. Feels less like watching a precocious-but-dorky college kid singing, now. Cool. I remember seeing the lead guy from Foxygen jumping around so much onstage, a couple of years back, that he wasn't even singing... and then nearly same with the Foxygen's drummer's spinoff (Diane Coffee) early last year. FJM is the first to graduate to being a serious act in which all the elements align... like some vintage world class Bowie or Elton John; even the singing is more precise and effective, now. The first real *Musical Triumph of Art Over Hype* of the late 2010s...?

      That particular quote is the difference between being a Nihilist and being an Absurdist. Josh is clearly an Absurdist, but he also clearly struggles sometimes with the meaninglessness of existence as all Absurdists must do at some point. As someone once said though, the strongest souls will always find the will to survive. Josh is no different.

    Misty knows how to create an illusion of himself that people will eat up. But in reality he's probably a plain jane. And the fact he's able to fool so many makes him a genius.

      @h.j.w2783 Před 8 lety

      +Hanna Laurence I feel like this is just a fan trying to justify his doucheyness. I love his music, but lets not kid ourselves, the guy is super pretentious, you can claim its an "illusion" all you want, but the illusion is very real.

      I don't think he is pretentious, I think he's actually very real and down to earth, far less pretentious than a lot of people.
