  • Should you use Pixieset or Squarespace to host your photography website? What hosting platform is great for beginners? What should you use to deliver your client galleries? Here is my honest review of both Pixieset and Squarespace for photographers!
    Check out my Squarespace website: www.kateyvaughanphotography.com/
    Something I didn't touch on in this video:
    - Shootproof allows you to use your own branding for invoices, contracts, client galleries, etc.
    - Using Shootproof + Squarespace is the same annual price as the Pixieset plan I was on before. You get more benefits (invoice, contracts, etc.) for essentially the same price.

    I enjoyed your video it was really helpful, I was torn between the 2 but I’ll try out square space. If I may ask what your camera model of choice is that you’re using for wedding shoots right now?

      Thanks for watching! I currently shoot on a Nikon D7500 for my weddings (I upgraded from the 3200 or 3300). Definitely looking to upgrade again!

    Hi Katey, nice video... Thanks for sharing your thoughts... I use pixieset since 2016, I don't think I would change to other platform because I like to have everything in one platform. And also Pixieset has improved themselves since I started using them years ago, I mean, is not the same... I see your video is 2020, now is 2022, and even this year they have done some upgrades... But I agree with you that Pixieset is very limited in terms of design and templates. Well, thanks... Keep posting a lot of videos :D

      I'm definitely due for a Pixieset update video! They've done a lot lately.

      I definitely agree with you, Pixieset now has all in one from invoicing to photo delivery. Squarespace doesn't seem to have a photo delivery service that I could find unless I used a separate platform like shoot proof. Great video though! I do understand that it has been 2 years since the video but square space doesn't seem to have a lot of updates since then compare to pixieset in my opinion

    You can now invoice with pixieset you can also sell prints Thru them. I haven’t tried square space but heard a lot of good stuff about them just heard they are expensive.

      Hi! Thank you so much for watching! I currently use a surface laptop (I got it refurbished from Amazon lol). But I've heard amazing things about apple laptops or desktops, so I'm planning on upgrading to an IMac one of these days. For now though, my surface laptop works really well!

    hi! I love this video im curious on what platform you use to send your clients their galleries digitally? I want to transition from Pixieset to square space

    • @jamilgotcher5456

      You can create a password protected gallery on a page on your squarespace. The page doesn't have to show up in your navigation menus unless you want it to, you send the link (url) of the proof gallery to your client. I have css custom code on mine so that the file numbers show below each image.

    thanks for the info, I have been trying WordPress but feel its taking to much of my time up. One thing I do like to have is a client link in my header as it keeps everything on the one page. How do you feel about sending your clients to shootproof?

    • @KateyVaughan
      @KateyVaughan  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for watching! I love ShootProof so far. Since I deliver engagement & wedding galleries, I only send a client link through email. To me, that feels more personal!

    Thanks so much! I'm just starting out and this was very helpful! I do have one question. What if you do a mini session and take say 50 photos and your fee only includes 5, with option to purchase more. You want to show all of the photos so they can choose which 5 they would like. How to you disable them downloading the photos so you can then enable only the ones they choose later? Is this possible with PixieSet and if not, do you have any other suggestions?

    • @PMLFilms
      @PMLFilms Před 2 lety +3

      At least through shoot proof you can watermark the ones they haven’t purchased, and put the ones they did in a separate album and only allow downloads for that album. You can also limit how many downloads you allow for each user. I’d imagine pixieset has a similar setup

      I would just make a package price that includes minimum 5 photos. some clients may get more and that’s ok you can’t help if some people just modeled better,
      but setting a minimum of say 5 or 10 or 15 to a package guarantees them to get what they paid for-
      iv never had issues.
      i think letting a client pick and choose photos takes WAY TO LONG and that’s more of a studio environment

    I think if you’re making bank the best option is to have squarespace and then link pixieset or pictime to your website. However, when you’re paying $30 a month for squarespace commerce and then $25-35 a month for a client galley application. What these companies need to do is come out with an all in one for a decent price $30-$35 a month.
    You can always set up multiple galleries on squarespace for clients to view and have them password protected but the headache becomes photo selection and downloading etc. Ugh such a headache lol

    So...the bottom line here is that Squarespace does not offer a page where they can mimic Pixieset and host my website. If I read this right, I cannot upload a wedding(in categories and connected a specific client) like I did in Pixieset. I also want to get paid for 'non client' downloading and prints. Looks like I am stuck with two, so called - 'Websites'. Grrr. I subscribed...you put in the effort to help us all out.

      yes. You need to stick to your guns. Now i am leaning toward pixieset. You can build a website, have a client gallery for them to choose a best picture and you can invoice them. All in one rather then have 2 platforms. one as website another as a gallery to store pictures.
