My only comments to all MPs including the ministers... use the time in parliament to debate / discuss about policies. Don't spend time attacking each other and don't make sarcastic and demeaning comments about other MPs suggestions/proposals. Parliamentary time must be spend on producing quality and productive policies to benefit the people. Spending time trying to gain political points over each other only waste tax payers money. Outside the parliamentary session you can make whatever comments you like. Pls don't do it during parliamentary session. We can catch wayang on Netflix and other paid channels.

LKY's era, graduates are like diamonds, so rare and precious. GCT's era, graduates are few but not rare. LSL's era, graduates are a dime a dozen. The government is not able to keep up with providing enough good jobs for all the graduates over time. It makes a mockery of our meritocracy system for students to work hard, get good grades but end up doing work that does not require a degree qualification. I think this is the crux of the problem and the reason to define success in a much wider range.

Since a few years already companies do not look anymore that closely to your school scores. They need someone who is a fit for what they need, or someone who brings that one special skill to the company.
I cite Jurgen Klopp about recruiting soccer players: "Every week they bring young people to me who are all trained, good soccer players. If you come to me, I am looking for that special skill. The superfast spurt, the extra long throw-in, the precise goal-aim." (Quoted by meaning not by words)
I do think you can obtain such a special skill at a "normal" neighbourhood school. But it might be harder. The prime school has better facilities, smarter kids, better teachers - makes learning easier.

Good ideas don't just come from the top-down, it can be bottom-up and most importantly is through healthy discussion. When ministers earn the pay they are earning, they will never be able to do what is right for Singaporeans. Maybe another set of ministers can but not ours. They don’t feel our issues, not even close, but they have the audacity to say they understand. That itself shows how detached and arrogant they are, that they can’t even see that they cannot understand or maybe they can, but think us Singaporeans as idiots. They are paid much more than the many talented people out there, who work long hours and have proven themselves in the private sector. They get the power they want so much. But they can’t do the job. Politics should be a calling, to serve Singapore and Singaporeans. Yes, we should pay well but ours is disgusting. The government keeps saying it does this and that for us. Isn’t it their job? Our only income is from our payout from our retirement fund inwhich we find it's insufficient to survive till last end month. Moreover, we received the recent hand-out from the governments only last year 2022. What had happened to the hand-out in 2021,2020,2019 ,2018 and more if there is any.
I really don't know what went wrong. I appreciate you can help to look into this matter. I sincerely hope looking forward to your prompt reply shortly. I thank you.

    Good planning.
After 1995 .The economic are showing sign of cracking.
Companies either do other type of business or relocate to low cost countries.
    Or retire.
This is evidence from those empty JTC factory.
If there are less income or taxes .How to substain so many social programs and how to substain a family of 2 adults and 2 childrens.
If Quality jobs grow is less than population. There will be more social problems like in the 50s .60s.and 70s.
The residents was poor and have difficulty earning a living.
It is still not to late to make changes so that the residents can have a better future.Have to use less FW and FT.
    Why ????
The $$$$$$ are flowing out of the country.
What ever jobs the residents can do let have it first.
    Bring in the rich.
    Bring in less liability.
    Family planning etc
Govt operation cost has to be reduce.
Less import .more export of goods and services.More tourists.

When students are bullied and teachers choose to do nothing and worse, side with the bullies to mock the bullied just because the bullies come from rich families whose parents they cannot offend if they are bosses and managing directors, you call that the BEST education system?
And while you said, with all due respect, Minister Lawrence, that everyone of us is equal and deserves every chance to achieve their potential, do the teachers, principals, parents and peers feel the same?
While I understand there are changes in education recently due to growing opposition numbers in Parliament, that was NOT the case from 1970 to 1990s.
    The question is -
WHO came up with this grading system?
That causes so much stress, anxiety and even drives students to bully, mock and even kill one another?
I know it is not you.
    But your predecessors.

Why is our meritocracy too narrow in the 1st place? This is not new. Parents have been raising issues for years, maybe even decades and society/our children/ourselves have been suffering for the same time. It is when you can’t hide the unhappiness, that things are getting out of control, that you change the boundaries. I think changing the boundaries on meritocracy is good, but it is way too late and driven by the wrong motivation.
We have several issues, it is not meritocracy that is the main issue. We need a honest government, who can reflect, who can really empathise with the people, who is not focused on staying in power, who can respect Singaporeans ( the opposition included) instead of one sitting atop its ivory tower, thinking it knows best (unless when forced to admit/caveat), who keeps screwing up, riding on the earlier generations’ successes , finding excuses and yet praising themselves. Only then will Singapore improve.
We look at parliamentary debates and see how disrespectful, unfair, rude and mean the government is to the opposition. We hear the boo boos ministers make, without apologising and have people coming out to say they are only human - true but certain things are not just mistakes but show what kind of leaders we have bec the words come from deep within. In the last 20years, what did the government we have really do that we can remember, that we can say is good? I think Singaporeans know, but many can’t be bothered. When the time comes that we do bother, maybe then Singapore will be on the path to improve. Hopefully, our kids and their kids get to see that Singapore.

It is despicable that some employees of government can work unethically even lying through the skin of their teeth, brazenly committing perjury causing a child to be severely suffering in silence, stark contrast to their claim of acting in her best interests, now she is in deep anxiety and traumatised after the sheer terror when she was taken away against her will by these unscrupulous govt officers. The excuse they gave was that she was alleged to have suicidal thoughts (at age 9!) Yet that is clearcut untrue, denied by herself and we have proof that her kidnappers lied. It seems they want her to self-fulfil that unhealthy allegation, as if it is a prophecy seeing that in the long run no child is able to develop well-balanced without original home and attachment to natural parents. The "public servants" let her live dark nights of the soul without them having any empathy and self-reflection. She was even left severely disadvantaged, impoverished and malnourished especially when she went on a hunger strike to protest what they had done to her during separation. Insidiously they kept this hidden so the courts couldn't know about it and most likely they controlled the flow of information so that the higher ups never come to know the truths, instead use unwary father as a scapegoat, when he simply is terribly confused as to why all this is happening. She is afraid to speak up against the perpetrators who had abused their power and position. After so much correspondence to the PMO and alerting higher ups yet nothing was done as a recourse as if govt image is more important than alleviating the suffering of a child, her future and her attachment to natural family, or ultimately for justice to prevail. The Courts obviously seem only too trusting of these govt employees without realising they didn't dare to swear under oath in court and that they had other agenda; and the courts had not investigated the reality and what goes on behind the scenes how these employees had been manipulating for their desired objectives and wronged the innocent, how they had been fooling everyone including the ministers, the courts, and even the police. Till now these perpetrators could not provide hard evidences for what they alleged yet we have recordings of their lying and wrongdoings and I am more than willing to swear under oath and in the name of God to testify how they had lied and am willing to help the police, CPIB and the PMO. Sarah Sophia who is only now eleven years old simply has to be allowed to speak up in person without fear of the govt employees who had been controlling her. They should not continue to gaslight and take a hawkish stance against the family for the rest of her life, that would be unfair to her well-being and future. She feels terribly intimidated by govt officials who coerced her to only follow their script and who had been putting words in her mouth, not to mention she was not allowed to speak up (cried and became depressed) when she fell ill after she was vaxxed without my consent. This is abominable and totally unacceptable as it goes against Geneva Conventions and common decency. Why are they blocking her from communicating with the rest of the world and with her father when she desires to, and from disclosing what they actually did to her? I am more than willing to help the PMO weed out these unscrupulous govt workers who think that they are above the law and feel protected by govt armor, that they can rule over the people whom they are supposed to actually serve and protect, in particular they have bullied children, fathers and families all for the sake of self-serving interests - most likely they were eyeing rewards and incentives that the govt should not have indiscriminately give, such that at the expense the junior employees caused innocent families to suffer by their misdeeds and lapses. This attitude of these narcissistic govt employees is a disgrace to govt even by the way they handle hotline calls and set a bad example to fellow singaporeans totally goes against the integrity that the PM expects of his subordinates within the govt when he gave the speech in Parliament after the last election. To this day Sarah Sophia is homesick and worried that she would not be able to cope and her personality had changed drastically, no longer outgoing and confident as she used to be prior to her being literally abducted by them. She is mentally and emotionally conflicted, not having her way and not having a say, felt punished when forced by the govt with the thought she has to live in destitute and impoverishly in isolation and in Indonesia when she is in fact born a Singaporean, and lived like any other Singaporean since birth and does not like those strangers the govt forced her to live with. The educators around her fall short of professionalism for their ignorance and not taking the higher ground, letting the child to be misguided, just for the sake of protecting only their rice bowls. This is the real disease that is permeating within Singapore society, uncaring, materialistic, not taking ownership of the trust that should by right benefit citizens and families. How else as a citizen can my daughter or myself share our grievances when everything else we tried has fallen on deaf ears?

One of the key points that Assoc Prof Lim made was the lack of an official poverty line in Singapore. He argued that without an official poverty line, it was difficult to identify and target those in need of assistance.
He noted that the current thresholds used by various agencies were confusing and inconsistent, which led to many deserving individuals falling through the cracks.
