  • During the inspection of one of the birdhouses we take care of, we found out that a rare guest has chosen the birdhouse for its nesting, which is one of our waders that is the only one that flies to warm landscapes for the winter, the Eurasian wryneck.
After the chicks grew to a size suitable for ringing, we took action. After opening the birdhouse, we found that six chicks had hatched, with one unhatched, probably unfertilized egg remaining in the birdhouse. Putting ornithological rings on all the chicks was the work of a moment. Then, to take the necessary photo documentation, quickly and gently return the young crustaceans to the box and hang the box back in its original place.
Wishing them all the best for their future lives, we left the box area and watched from afar as the parents immediately resumed feeding.
