I try to wake up at 7:55am. 8-5 job. Oh my gawwd you deliberately only work 8hrs? I'm not confident enough to risk that at my first job. Maybe when I have more experience.

Employers should not expect you to work more than the regular 40 hours unless you are doing an essential job with understaff issues. And when I say essential, I do not mean according to your immediate manager's perception but according to law. If you want to work extra hours, it's up to you and you should be compensated. Also, working extra hours can be requested in exceptional circumstances (crisis management) but it should always be an incentive not an obligation. If you want to progress within your organization, working extra hours can be taken into consideration in the decision to promote you, but you should never be threatened to be fired if you do not accept to work extra hours. This is the philosophy in my company.
