Chap tilak sab Chheeni (Urdu: چھاپ تلک سب چھینی‎), is a poem composed by Amir Khusro, a 14th-century Sufi mystic, in the Braj Basha language. Due to the resonance of its melody and mystical lyrics, it is frequently heard in Qawwaliconcerts across South Asia.[1] The poem has a romantic expression, however, it is a devotional verse penned by Amir Khusro in respect of his spiritual mentor, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya as seen in verse below 'I give my whole life to you Oh, Nizam, You've made me your bride, by just a glance' [2].
    "Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni
The word chhaap refers to the zabibathat some Muslims have one their forehead and the word tilak refers to the mark worn by Hindus on the forehead. The main line states "You've taken away my chhaap and tilak, by just a glance". The chhaap and tilak symbolize religious and cultural identity.
This poem has been sung in Qawwali format by notable Indian and Pakistani Qawwals, including Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Naheed Akhtar, Mehnaz Begum, Abida Parveen, Sabri Brothers,[3]Iqbal Hussain Khan Bandanawazi, Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad Qawwal, Ustad Jafar Hussain Khan, Ustad Vilayat Khan,[4] Ustad Shujaat Khan, Zila Khan,Hadiqa Kiani and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

AMAN BABU That's true, Muslims who pray regularly have a little mark 'chaap' that appears on forehead for prostrating regularly.
Hindus have 'Tilak' on forehead which is their culture and part of Hindu faith, which is either turmeric, charcoal or sandalwood.
It shows simlarities and also shows how Sufism attracts and mesmerizes people regardless of faith.

Some of the meaning is lost in translation. Chap is the mark left on the forehead after a Muslim bows his head to offer Namaz and Tilak is the mark ( commonly called the dot by the westerners) worn on the forehead by Hindu. Chap Tilak Sab Cheeni.... Naina milai ke' means when 'you looked into my eyes, Chap and Tilak was taken away.' It means when you have direct connection with god, things like Chap & Tilak ( hence external religious practices) do not matter anymore.

love the videos my guy, just wanted to give some information as a British individual with Persian and Subcontinent origins. Chaap Tilak is the name of the poem written by one of the most famous Indo-Persian poets of a dynasty known as the Mughal Era. his name was Amir Khusro and was the the official poet of the royal court of the time. he had written this to express his spiritual love of his Sufi Master Nizamuddin Auliya. In Islam, there are many branches and sects which shoot off each other. one of them is Sufism which is the mystical side of Islam which was passed down through the means of scholars. In the case of Amir Khusro, it was Auliya. In this poem, he is expressing how in the knowledge that has been passed down by Auliya and his love for his spiritual teacher, he has lost himself. Chaap refers to the mark made on the foreheads of Muslims while bowing down on the floor and Tilak indicates the red mark worn on the foreheads of Hindus. This shows that he as lost himself in his master and can no longer recognise both religions even from the indications on their bodies.
To talk about the musicians, Abida Parveen and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are one of the most recognised artists in the Subcontinent. Abide Parveen comes from a place called Sindh in Pakistan where she was taught how to sing by her father who is a musician and is known as the Queen of Sufi Music.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was brought up in a musical family widely regarded as one of the most famous. He was taught by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who is easily the most famous musician known in Asia. He was known for his wide ranges of tones and could manipulate his voice so easily in concerts for hours on end. His nephew was Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who is the man singing in this video.
For a next video, I widely recommend listening to a ‘qawwali’ by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as you will be mind blown.

This is a love song for the holy god.. This songs depicts the stage of some devoted person where his/her love towards god has reached a level of romantic devotion, like lovers.. Just like two lovers, the devotee can't live without his god.. In India, its the beauty of the culture that we perceive god as someone verryyu much close to us, close to our souls.. And that's how it is represented in the song!!

Chap Tilak is the title of the song. Artists are Abida Parveen and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Translation is also available in video caption on official Coke Studio Pakistan's CZcams channel. It's a 14th century Sufi mystic poem written by Sufi poet named Amir Khursow- who mentions his name as a third person in the poetry quite often, a signature move by poets of that region. Kusrow was a follower of the Sufi teachings of Nizamuddin Auwliya and drew much of his poetic inspirations from him. Therefore, he mentions his love and admiration for his teacher. The other lady is Abida Parveen who is a Sufi music performer, one of the gold star legends of Pakistani Sufi musical performances.
