I totally agree with you. I really like his voice but I don’t like the accompaniment at all. I’d rather hear him sing it with orchestra. This is a little too folky and a little too blowing in the wind style for me.
He definitely has the voice for the song but I would love to hear him sing with an orchestra and choir. I do love the celtic vibes I get from his version, though. (Minus the acoustic guitar lol)
John Owen-Jone's version was nice, but I think I prefer this stripped down version. Still, that last note was phenomenal! Thanks for reccomending it to me, I enjoyed it.

For a long time I thought Anthony Warlow had the best version of this, and Josh Groban's was horrible; I now think that Karimloo usurped Warlow's reign. Excellent version!

I have to agree with most of the opinions. This song is best sung as it was written. Get rid of the guitar and back him up with full orchestra. Ramin Karmiloo has just the voice to sing it with the right amount of passion.
That violin is annoying the **** out of me. This song only needs a heartfelt vocal, no fancy trimmings. I adore Ramin, but so many of the YT posts of him singing the songs I most want to hear him do just miss the mark, despite his performance (well, the blame IS his in the Empty Chairs one with Hadley Fraser. I want to knock their heads together for corpsing, their singing was so beautiful until then. Annoyingly, I still can't help laughing too.) Songs I've never cared about, he does wonderfully!

It looks like you're gonna get that version! He's slated to sing the part of Anatoly in a new London revival of the musical next year.

I think Hugh Panaro's version is incredible, when he sings the first notes at the beginning I die.
You should listen to John Owen-Jones' version, his end note is a 5th higher.
