  • Some of the best R&B music emerged from the '90s, including songs by the Dalyrimple brothers, better known as Soul for Real. They took over the Billboard charts with their two hit songs, 1994’s “Candy Rain,” and 1995’s “Every Little Thing I Do.”
Backed by their mentor Heavy D, the brothers experienced a brief moment of success, before it all came crashing down. Here's what happened to Soul for Real and the real reason they were blacklisted.

Anytime someone has years of experience on you, they have more wisdom within whatever industry. Why not just take Heav’s advice and let Jase lead, especially since he sung lead on the original single? That’s makes more since musically and for marketing.
To me, it seems Choc wanted to make sure he got some shine instead of just taking Heav’s instruction (guidance) and ended up blowing the support Heav once had for them. They only had one single out, and he had the nerve to wanna argue with the boss: FOOLISH! 🙄

I've always heard nothing but positive things about Heavy D up until this video. So he had a difference of opinion with a group member, but to never want to speak to them again? That's a bit extreme and shady on Heavy's part. I guess there are two sides to anyone. I hate how the industry allowed Soul For Real to crash and burn so fast. They just don't care at ALL! Be letting all of this talent fall off like this! I feel so bad for the artists. You think you'll be doing this for a living for the rest of your life, only to release one big commercial album and be dropped, then have to go back to normal life like nothing ever happened. Going back to the struggle and working a regular 9-5 would be somewhat traumatic initially I'd imagine.

Also, knowing that the entertainment industry is fickle… I would recommend that if a person/group enjoys entertaining, do it for the love of entertaining, and not for the accolades. Soul For Real, they are all right w/ me. I actually had a brief exchange w/ Jase several months ago. I told him how I felt about his new song and a few other things. He was hella cool and very receptive. I told him that I believed 112 replaced them which is why they fell flat. He said that I could be on to something. There's a reason why we know and love _Candy Rain_ and barely know sh¡t else by them. It's a corporate decision. They decide on what's gon be a hit and how long the artist/band is gon last in that mainstream music marketplace. Once they use you up and hang you out to dry, it's curtains on that ass. With hundreds to thousands of artists/bands on a label, execs can sorta look & book ahead. "Eh, we're tired of Soul For Real. Let's go for 112 and see what happens." Anyway, my favorite song from them is a tie between _If You Want It_ and _Spend the Night._ I left a comment under one of they live performances and a follower of mine corrected me. He knew what type of R&B I liked and told me to listen to _Spend the Night._ I listened to it and it became my favorite, instantly. I love the hits, but I've always been an albums cut kinda girl. _Candy Rain_ is sheer nostalgia for all '90s kids so I don't need to get into that one. I'll be here all doggon night/morning reminiscing. Nah, they second LP, chile... I never fooled w/ it during the time, however, I did enjoy the song I heard on _Moesha_ entitled _Never Felt This Way._ I love that cut. I remember seeing the LP in stores and it just felt like goodbye. It felt like a blank piece of paper. It obviously had no programming behind it. I recently listened to it and...well... It's cool, (I guess). I like the first cut entitled _Stay._ After that LP, I have no idea, chile. They're tryna do new music and it's like, "Oh Lawd. Here we go." Soul For Real is my generation. My generation isn't interested in new music from '90s artists/bands anymore. Mint Condition was at some Awards show performing new music and nobody in the audience moved. Soon as they hit that _Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)_ gem, the audience responded. There's a reason to that. So many '90s artists/bands make new music and it ALWAYS falls flat and flops. See, back in the '90s, labels programmed the music so that it would stick and sink in our minds & hearts. Did you know that folks think Jon B last song is 1997's _They Don't Know?_ There's a reason to that. Nowadays, my generation focuses on podcasts and reality tv. New music is the last thing on our minds because our musical memory banks are full. We're perfectly satisfied w/ our lil' '90s jams. It's not right or wrong. That's just the way things go. Who's still waiting around for Usher Raymond to put out new music? Who's waiting for Usher Raymond to go out on tour and perform the classics? Think about it...
