Love my PRS Standard 24! Bought it new in 2020 for $500!! Great sound and playability. Lube the nut and it stays in tune well. Just for a project, I swapped out the pickups for Porter Gatekeepers. One week later I swapped them back. These 85/15 S pickups are really amazing for the price of this guitar. Bright and articulate with delay and warm when you need them to be. PRS has designed these guitars with a “treble bleed” in the volume pot. Roll off the volume for crystal clear tone. Really nice for worship songs! The neck plays great with rounded edges and no sharp frets! I don’t split the coils much as I like the sound of the humbucker mode better. Great guitar for Worship and many other styles. Thank you guys for the great Worship videos!

At one point, you guys asked about any upgrades worth doing on the SE Custom 24's. PRS now has cost-effective locking tuners for these. 18:1 ratio and are a drop-in upgrade that gives you the same functionality (and similar appearance) as the core second-gen/third-gen locking tuners. I have them on both of my SE 24's, and the upgrade was well worth it!

I toured with it with my band throughout my early twenties. Sad part of the story. in 2013, I lost the guitar during a move. It disappeared from my truck somewhere between Nebraska and Utah. I was heart broken . I've since then owned many guitars but I've always missed that guitar. This new Custom 24 is going to be a homage to it. I have a few more days until it arrives. I'm hoping I love it. This video helped me to decide to go ahead and buy one. Thanks.

You guys probably realized by now but the SE does indeed have the treble bleed installed. The pups sounds pretty much identical, the biggest difference here is that the SE has a maple neck vs the mahogany of the core, as well as a steel vs brass block on the trem, which could be swapped if desired. My SE is the Floyd Rose model which I love, I have contemplated getting a brass block, but it sounds killer as is. Four years of playing and the setup is still perfect, it hasn't been touched by a tech since I got it, not even a truss adjustment, fret ends, nothing, and I live in an extremely dry climate.

You are exactly right on the 85/15s pickups. I have an S2 Custom 24 and they're a lot smoother than a PAF style humbucker. One thing I hate about a Les Paul sound is the humbucker bark...it's very midrangey without the clarity. I have a Carvin CT624 and it feels very similar to the S2 but I put high end Dimarzios in it and I prefer the 85/15s pickups.

Gibson makes several pickups, the 490/498 are mid-rangey but the burstbucker range are a lot clearer and brighter. Classic 57’s also sound nice, somewhere in between the 498/burstbucker pro’s. They also make the dirty fingers pickups which Metallica used to help get that master of puppets tone (Tony Iommie of Black Sabbath also uses them I think). I picked up one of these custom 24 earlier this year with the 85/81 and am happy enough that I don’t feel the need to change them. Very nice guitar for the money.

I keep gravitating towards Fender and Gibson because all my heroes played them. But man, I don’t think I’ve come across better quality than Paul Reed Smith. I currently have an SE Zach Myers and it plays better than the Gibson Studio I have. I sold a PRS S2 Standard 24 to get the Gibson. And I have to admit the PRS played and stayed in tune better. I have been a Les Paul guy all my guitar playing life because Slash, Jimmy Page, Peter Frampton and Ace Frehley play them. That’s the only reason.

I have been playing guitar for over 40 years now 😮😮!! Wow! Give me a minute to let that sink in......
Anyway, I have never owned a PRS and have only played the SE version once, years ago, in the dark, without an amp, blah, blah. I have never given them a real test run, so to speak. I've just never been around them even though everyone who plays them raves about their quality. I literally just bought another expensive American made guitar last week. A Fender American ultra HSS model, and I love it, so no more new guitars just yet. But, I have to give PRS a legit go before I go. I won't be trying any $4-6k models, but one of those S2 models might be in my future? The good Lord willing, that is?

When doing the Demo of the humbucker and coil, around the 24 min mark, I heard a fairly distinct VOL change, being a lower volume on the coil settings. THAT is also prominent in my GTR, for which I have the Burled Ash model, and to me, I find that a bit annoying. Also my only negative point with this Gtr. A "long time ago", I bought one of the original PRS Gtrs, when they had the patented "fast string change" lever on the tuning heads, to me the earlier version of a locked tuner. It was the same blue/black front as was on one of PRS' original brochures, when they printed those back then! TOO Bad I still dont have it. Sold it when I moved in 1999.

Just some notes chaps. 2 octaves chaps. 1-12 and 12 -24. Open string is not an octave its the start.. PRS doesn't build them, now Cortek does. Only setup by PRS USA for local market. Fretwork is not at all like my USA version. Otherwise nice review. USA version is not Hand Carved. You can just easily fit a push/pull to the volume to give you 24-08 switching. It's always my first upgrade. they are fitted with treble bleed caps. Only USA versions have a coil split resistor to keep both coils active. The SE doesn't, but that is also an easy fix with a 2k resistor.

A PRS SE Standard 24 a little more than a year ago, and was totally blown away. I'm a PRS nerd for life. Their least expensive guitar remains one of the nicest I've ever put my hands on. To be honest, their SE & S2 lines are so good it honestly makes it hard to justify why someone should buy a Core model. I've since added a PRS S2 Vela, which I think might be the best overall guitar for modern worship playing.

I considered myself a Strat player for a long time. I used to own a PRS Custom semi-hollow but it was a 22. I hated it.
I bought a PRS SE Custom 24 form Sweetwater earlier this year. Looks amazing (burled ash with black filler and a crazy grain pattern) and plays great! Only mod I did was the locking PRS tuners. Only qualm I have is that the fretboard has a spot, at one of the upper frets, where it appears they may have mistakenly routed for a fret marker then filled it back in. That being said, I now play this guitar more than any of my eighteen other guitars-to include the three Strats I own.

I ended up putting locking tuners and seymour duncan jb/jazz pickups in it and that guitar is a monster now. Plays like a dream and now is exactly how I want a guitar to sound. Worth the money for the mods with just how it plays alone
