The amount of temptation, lust and dark fornication isn’t quite conveyed as well as the original. The original was purely about sin and being against God….lacking the darkness….”the walk on the wild side”.

I don't know; I've always seen it as a typical Lou song: talkin about people that, especially at his time, no one was considering or respecting.
It's like he was giving voice to people who hadn't one or like he was just trying to poetically describing how life was for those people.
I think that Lou was all about telling stories about people like Candy, Sally, Jane, Jimmy Brown, Love etc..
or even his own life at times.
but yes, Lou was also kinda obscure and dark in a lot of his songs
