- I have two things to demo in this video. First, a thing I call "Growing as Wash", which is how I fill silhouette shapes with color variation by placing wet color side by side. And second, drawing directly with the brush, to sketch in dark shadows with, highly pigmented dark values.
Thanks for watching, and feel free to post questions, or stop by my blog (CitizenSketcher.com) for more ideas. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Excellent. This guy should have much more followers.
Wonderful painting and wonderful lesson. Thank you for not having the terrible "music" which seems to accompany many of the artists videos.
Wonderful. Inspirational.
PLEASE keep making these, these are so so so good
Yeah, ^^ what they said! Some people just know how to communicate and articulate instructions. Some people are just better teachers than others and this guy is one of them.
Oh my Gosh!!! These tutorials are so fantastic!! I want to learn this method so as to bring some life into my work. Thank you so much and yes, please keep doing these. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Simply amazing!
Brilliant effect. The flowing colour takes on so much life in itself. Well, that's what occurs to me! Thanks.
Tantalizingly great watercolor instruction. Subscribed. Bookmarked. Clicked the bell and will now watch your other videos.
same here!
Thank you so much for free teaching.
You really are a great teacher. All your explanations come at the right time for me in my watercolour learning process. I found out you have to acquire a certain level in order to assimilate certain teachings. They might come too early on the learning road, that happened to me with your videos a year ago. Now I do understand so much better and started using your advices. And also I just ordered your book! 🙂Thank you for all that
That's very interesting to hear! Thanks :)
Thanks Marc for taking the time to do this, it is very helpful!
Great Marc, like the statues we painted in Chicago! Thanks
I absolutely stay away from portraits because I know I can't do them justice, but you are convincing me to give it a try. Terrific instruction.
sir i like your all videos you tell me all most importent water colour triks.. idea.. and your favret
Absolutely impressive
So brilliant. Thank you.
Thank you so much for showing your work space and palette when painting; it really helps a beginner like me understand HOW you're mixing and using color.
This is so helpful! Thank you for this tutorial! 👍
You are an amazing teacher and artist!
I'm really liking and enjoying your videos.
Thank you so much for this very clear and instructional video. Learned a lot. Ha, will have to watch it a few times more...:) Loving your channel!
Another helpful video, I learn something every time I watch you. I've been painting with acrylics so all the water is really hard to get used to. I think this is going to help me alot practicing to use more water. Also with the heat lately this'll be great lol! Thanks so much!
Thanks Marc! Hoping for more of such videos!
They are excellent. Please continue!
Nice Artwork... I learned allot today about watercolor painting!
Magical. Thank you.

Fantástico 👌👌👌
amazing
More more more please!
When you are charging colors how do you decide what colors to work with? Is there a formula you use or just personal preference. Also, when charging the colors is it random when you change the color? It doesn’t appear to be as simple as warm colors in the light and cooler colors in the shadow?
Hi Marc, wonderful tutorial. A quick question, when you are growing the wash in the underpainting, do you use the same brush for different paint, or do you switch brushes? Similarly do you use the same brush for blending edges? Thank you.
Oh yes, all one brush! I just keep it clean with a rinse and a flick. You 'flick' out any dirty water into a bucket or on the ground if you're outside.
May I ask which beautiful brush you use? Excellent demo
Oh hey Diane, sorry for the slow reply. That's a Winsor and Newton Pro Watercolor Sable - looks like about an #6 in the Pointed Round.
your favret water colour method and over all ideaj pleese Help me sir
Hi Marc. Nice video. Which calligraphy pen and nib size is that?
Hey A Sem - it's an old speedball dipping nib in a wooden handle. It's a flat or 'chisel' nib, looks like 5mm? One of the most 'basic' calligraphy nibs you might find really. Was probably 25 cents!
@@marctaro hi Marc. Thanks very much for your response.
Are you on Instagram or does anyone have the link ?
Did you mean 0.3mm pencil and not 3mm?
Yes your right, 0.3mm. Thanks!
+Marc Holmes ..cool; otherwise my next question woulda been "what sharpener do you use?" :-))
I do use those 5mm lead holders on occasion - mostly when doing a very large drawing. Those - I don't really sharpen at all :) Just kind of - draw on the side till it gets a point. :)
+Marc Holmes All good stuff to know, thanks, Marc.
whats name this nib?
Just a speedball dipping nib. Nothing fancy!
