Two Years Post Chemo- Long Term Effects?

  • Two years ago this month my hair my hair finally stopped falling out after finishing 18 weeks of chemo. Fortunately the unpleasantness is becoming more of a distant memory- but what side-effects still remain? I still have a list of "cancer treatment" side-effects I am experiencing but most of those are from being on two and half years of Lupron (so- no testosterone). My taxotere (docetaxel) treatments left their mark- I see it in the mirror everyday- but are the scars of that experience more than skin deep?

My husband is almost 57 years old. Next week, he will have this prostate biopsy. I know his PSA is around 7. I really hope he won't have cancer.

Thank you for continuing to share your journey! Your face is very handsome and expressive! You wear those wrinkles (not that I see many) like a medal of honor!!! You went through hell and back, and any physical effects are just a reminder that you fought....AND won! So happy for this update. ❤

Been following your journey for some time now.
You are in my prayers, Parris.
Sounds like that Lupron is a real bear, buy hey - you are still with us!
    Blessings!

Dont worry the face and wrinkles issue is reversible .. take some time and return back to normal hopefully

Thanks Riham! The wrinkles are hard not to notice but they are not something I dwell on. If that is the worst long term side effect of the chemo I think I am doing pretty well.

Hello Paris, happy that you are doing well. The last time I responded to you my PSA was 137 and you said that you saw a prostate Bx in my future. Well you were right and as expected with a PSA that high I was diagnosed with prostate CA. I was put on Lupron and have been on it for almost a year. I also had 45 IMRT treatments and was put on Xtandi. The good news is my PSA has been undetectable for the last 6 months. My main side effects have been some fatigue and hot flashes, but worst of all I’ve reverted back to pre-adolescence. The hair on my legs, chest, underarms, and pubic area have all but disappeared, but the worst is genital shrinkage. I am also having muscle and joint aches especially in the morning, but Xtandi can cause these aches and pains also so it is hard to pin all of it on Lupron. The side effects for me have been tolerable and it’s better than the alternative. Stay strong and keep fighting against this terrible disease.
I wish you good health and all the best in the future.

Thanks for the update- so glad to hear you are doing well. And yes- the shrinkage. It turns out testosterone doesn't just give men big egos. I have just finished three years on Lupron and now I get to have my testosterone levels go back up to normal and see what my PSA does. Here's to hoping that the shrinkage is reversable! Updates to follow. 🍆🍆 You stay strong too- let's try and choose laughing over crying whenever possible.

@@parristx I will stay strong. In 2 months I will have been on Lupron for a year. Not exactly sure how long I will have to stay on it. My oncologist seems to think I could come off Lupron relatively soon and just stay on the Xtandi. Time will tell. Hang in there and I wish you the very best.

Glad you are in remission Parris. My late sister had the dry mouth etc. She was taking an oral chemo not sure what it was called.

Thanks Paula! Dry mouth seems like something that would just be a minor irritation but the cumulative effects over time (if untreated) are serious.

Hi there. I am doing okay- thanks for asking. My current issues are mostly cancer treatment side effects. Here is a link to my latest video- czcams.com/video/SUnD7UApf-U/video.html
