Great topic and teaching, Dr. Stratton! Also, in thinking about this integrative approach, I wonder what role the underlying, theological anthropology plays in the counselor's work? For example, an Old Testament focus on the Hebrew nephesh might inform a practitioner differently than a Pauline, tripartite division of pneuma, psyche and sarx in the Greek NT. Also, philosophical underpinnings could be salient, such as the difference between Platonic or Cartesian dualisms as opposed to the monism of Spinoza or stream of consciousness model of William James. It seems that theological and ALSO cultural anthropologies are at work here, either implicitly or in overt ways, as well.
